When you finally find a 100 natural fiber piece… and its 389, shaped like a sack, and beige 😭

Sustainable fashion: where you either dress like a Victorian poet lost in the woods or a potato headed to brunch. Meanwhile, fast fashionistas are out here in neon plastic crop tops for $5. Justice? No. Relatable? Painfully. Raise your hand if you’ve screamed into a linen tote this week πŸ™‹‍♀️

Alternatives to FRMovement Happiness Crop Top Tank?

So I’ve become very mindful on buying clothing that is made of more natural fibers such as Cotton, Silk, Linen etc etc. I’ve been super good about it for a while, but it just never occurred to me that the Happiness Crop Top Tanks that I’ve been wearing DAILY for 3-4 years is made of Nylon (I don’t wear bras). I must have had just one big brain fart because i’ve NEVER thought about the material of these tops😭 Anyways, does anyone have any recommendations for a similar tank that I can either wear alone and under shirts? Looking for something that’s 99-100% cotton. Thank you! I’m pretty open to varying prices as long as the quality is consistent with said price

HND GRADED UNIT NEW HERITAGE POLL

Hi there! I'm currently studying HND Fashion Design and Retail at college, and as part of my graded unit, I need to create a short poll for my report. I would really appreciate it if you could take a moment to fill it out!

For my project, I’ve been tasked with designing three outfits for a fashion collection that follows a specific trend, design brief, and is suited to a commercial brand.

I chose to design for J.Crew, with a focus on a preppy/classical American style. The design brief I’m working to is New Heritage.

Thanks so much for your help! https://surveymars.com/q/etX1aRDyX

What make you want to try a new sustainable brand?

Hi folks, I recently launched my own sustainable intimates brand and we are struggling to make sales happen. I was curious about what compels people to try a new brand when it comes to sustainability? I'm trying to get in our customers mindset as our early growth has been challenging and we're still trying to really nail our customer segments.

Blending Fashion, Sustainability, and Tech — Would You Support It?

Hello everyone! I’m currently a student of Entrepreneurship and Innovation with a background in Fashion Design.
As part of my project, I’m developing a brand focused on upcycling old garments into unique, emotionally meaningful pieces. The idea is to not only give clothes a new life but also share the story of their journey with customers.
To ensure these stories are authentic, I’m exploring the use of technology like digital tags or blockchain verification.

I would love to hear your thoughts:
Would you be interested in buying upcycled clothing if each piece came with a real, verified story about its past life and carries a traceable history that connects the customer to the garment?

When you try to buy sustainable fashion and end up looking like a walking plastic bag

I just wanted a cute cotton tee, but somehow I ended up with a polyester blend that’s giving me full-on plastic chair vibes. Like, are we sure this isn’t a recyclable shopping bag with a zipper? I swear, fast fashion brands think we're just gonna wear literal plastic and call it “style.” What’s next, an outfit made of bubble wrap? Let’s do better, fam!

Panic buying sustainable clothing

I've been finding myself browsing online for sustainable brands in my downtime at work, and in the past few months I have starting racking up some debt buying linen clothing from one particular slow fashion brand. I've probably spent 3k in the past few months, and I can't help but feel shame for my consumerism. Has anyone else felt this urge due to the tariff threats?

Dressier Sustainable Fashion?

Hello! 28F looking for a sustainable brand that sells dressier clothes (specifically looking for blouses, cute tops for dinner/drinks, and skirts for events) that are not super plain (like everlane) and also not super expensive. I’ve invested in a few higher end pieces but need more options in my closet. For the dresses I’ve invested in, it’s hard to continuously rewear them especially when attending multiple events with the same group of friends. So looking for brands that sell sustainably made blouses / skirts so I can switch it up lol

Some brands I love today: everlane, pact, mango, for days

Any other recommendations?

Linen / cotton wedding dress

Hi, I’m getting married in October. I’m looking for an affordable dress to wear to my wedding! Our ceremony is on a cliff overlooking the ocean followed by a casual intimate dinner with family. The attire is beach casual.

I want to wear linen and/or cotton. I’m having trouble finding something. I love some options on rovedesigns.com but am looking for other recommendations if anyone has any!!

I don't know what to wear can you help me?

Hey everyone, I honestly didn’t want to post this, but I’m kind of at my breaking point. I’ve been getting bullied at school for how I dress. Someone actually said I “look like a depressed smurf” last week, and everyone laughed. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it really hurt. I’ve always struggled with confidence, and dressing nicely was my small way of feeling in control.

The thing is… I don’t really have the money to buy new clothes. Most of my outfits are secondhand or gifted, and I do my best to mix and match, but I still get weird looks. I want to feel like I belong, like I’m not always being judged the second I walk into a room.

If anyone here has tips or outfit ideas that are affordable or thriftable, I’d be so grateful. Just… anything to help me not feel invisible or mocked every time I leave the house.

Thank you.

Navigating sustainable fashion

Over the past year, I've embarked on a journey to align my purchasing habits with my values. It's been enlightening but also overwhelming. I often found myself questioning:

  • Which companies align with sustainable practices?
  • How can I ensure my money supports causes I believe in?
  • Are there tools to simplify this decision-making process?

In my quest for answers, I discovered a platform that provides insights into company ownership and profit distribution but I'm curious to hear from this community about:

  • What resources or strategies do you use to ensure sustainable consumption?
  • Have you found tools that simplify this process?

How do your values influence your clothing purchases? Looking for honest perspectives on fashion

Hi everyone,

I'm researching how people make decisions about clothing purchases and how sustainability factors into those choices. I'd really appreciate your honest thoughts on these questions (no judgment at all—I'm genuinely curious about different perspectives)

  1. When shopping for clothing, what are the factors that influence your purchasing decisions?
  2. How much do you know about how your clothing is made? How did you learn this information?
  3. Can you describe a time when you consciously chose or avoided a fashion item because of how it was made or its origin? What influenced this decision?
  4. How important are the opinions of others in shaping your fashion choices? Do the people around you discuss fashion?
  5. Do purchase another shirt when you already have similar ones at home? If so, why?
  6. What happens to your clothing items after you're done with them?
  7. How does purchasing choices align with your personal values?
  8. Have your attitudes toward fashion consumption changed over time? If so, what prompted these changes?
  9. What kind of information about the impact of fashion on the environment might change your purchasing behaviour? How would you prefer to receive this information?

If you purchase one of the shirt that is similar to what you already have what are the reasons?

  • Are you purchasing this because I truly need it or because it's inexpensive?
  • Are you buying this as a "throwaway" item for a specific event or purpose?
  • Will you actually wear this shirt frequently, or will it likely be discarded after minimal use?
  • Does this purchase represent a deliberate choice or an impulse buy?

Thank you in advance for your insights! I'm interested in all perspectives—whether you're fashion-forward, budget-conscious, or anywhere in between.

Is there a difference in environmental impact between different types of fabric specifically (NOT fibers)?

I'm doing a deep dive into sustainability of materials and I'm curious if anyone has any knowledge on the difference (if any) of environmental impact between different fabrics. Obviously there is much literature on polyester vs cotton but what I'm learning is that those are fibers. The way we interact with and experience cloth is a result of fiber + the technique used to weave and knit the fibers together.

For example, satin is a certain way of putting the cloth together. You can have silk satin and cotton satin. Same as jersey, denim etc. Even though we think of a top as a "jersey" top it is not commonly discussed as a 96% cotton 4% elastane piece of clothing.

My question is between satin and denim for example, assuming the source of cotton is the same, is the difference in environmental impact nominal? or significant? I cannot find literature on it because searching up "fabric" sustainability gives me information on fibers instead. Thanks in advance to any knowledgeable person who has something to share!

Anyone else obsessed with cotton clothing lately? 🌿

Hey everyone! I’ve been slowly transitioning my wardrobe to more natural fabrics, and I’ve gotta say—cotton clothing is a total game-changer. Breathable, lightweight, and perfect for layering. Especially now that the weather’s getting warmer, I find myself reaching for my cotton tees, shirts, and dresses constantly.

What I love most is that it’s not just comfy—it’s also better for my skin and (when sourced right) more eco-friendly than synthetic stuff. I’ve noticed a big difference in how my clothes feel throughout the day. No more weird static cling or that plastic-y feel you get from polyester blends.

I’m currently looking for:

  • Solid cotton basics (tees, tanks)
  • Relaxed-fit pants or joggers
  • Cute cotton dresses for summer
  • Recommendations for ethical brands using organic cotton

Would love to know your favorite cotton clothing finds—whether it’s budget-friendly options or splurge-worthy staples. Bonus points if they’re sustainable too!

Let’s make this a little cotton appreciation thread 🌱✨

Denim Maxi Dresses — Underrated Staple or Just a Trend?

I’ve been seeing denim maxi dresses pop up more often lately, and I’m honestly not mad about it. They give off this effortlessly cool, retro-meets-modern vibe that works for so many different styles — especially if you're into layering or love playing with textures.

I tried one recently that had a button-down front with a belted waist, and it was surprisingly flattering and comfy. Paired it with white sneakers and a cropped jacket, and it felt like the perfect balance of casual + polished.

Curious if anyone else is into this trend?
🧡 Are you rocking denim maxi dresses this season?

I have a few sweaters that have a large enough stain on them so I can’t wear them outside anymore, and I have plenty of “inside sweaters” and beyond the one stain, the sweaters are in great condition so I’m trying to figure out what to do with them besides “donate them” (they’ll end up in the trash anyway). Shopping while petite

I’ve run out of ideas. I’m a woman but a very small woman. Petite in height and weight (93 atm). I don’t know where to shop anymore. I’ve learned about fit, inseams etc. Constantly buying and returning because nothing fits properly. I know the next best option is to have items tailored. I can do that for a few pieces, but an entire wardrobe would be far too expensive. I lean toward natural fibers as I tend to sweat a lot and because they tend to keep better for longer. Right now I’m searching for jeans but it seems like even the so-called high end brands are using weird stretchy material that doesn’t even qualify as denim. It’s been said before a million and one ways but why is everything crap now? And where do you all shop for the above criteria? Any little known or obscure brands to be aware of? Thanks in advance.

Is a Maxi Dress Too Much for Date Night? πŸ‘—✨

Hey friends!

I’ve got a bit of a style dilemma — I’ve been invited out on a cute little dinner date this weekend, and I’m seriously leaning toward wearing this gorgeous flowy maxi dress I just bought. It’s got a subtle slit, a flattering neckline, and it’s super comfy (bless breathable fabrics πŸ™Œ). I love how it makes me feel—effortlessly elegant but still very “me.”

My only worry is... is a maxi dress too much for a first date? πŸ˜… It’s not super formal, but it does turn a few heads (in a good way, I think?). The vibe is a slightly upscale restaurant, but not black-tie or anything.

Should I go for it and make it a maxi dress date night moment? Or play it safe with jeans and a cute top?

Would love your thoughts—and if you’ve rocked a maxi dress on a date, how did it go?

Pics of the dress if anyone’s curious! πŸ’ƒ
(Will add in comments if allowed!)

The thrift store giveth… and the thrift store taketh away.

Nothing humbles you faster than finding the perfect vintage jacket… only to flip the tag and see 100% polyester glaring back like a final boss. Why is fast fashion’s past still haunting us?? Meanwhile, some dude in a mall is happily buying a $5 plastic tee, blissfully unaware. Stay strong, comrades. The war on microplastics rages on.

Best breathable fabrics/clothing brands for hot and humid summer weather?

The summer heat and humidity where I live make choosing comfortable clothes essential! I'm looking to find more options that help me stay cool.

Besides basic cotton, what other fabrics are genuinely good for staying cool and managing sweat in very hot, sticky weather? Linen? Chambray? Tencel/Lyocell? Specific performance synthetics often used in athletic wear?

Are there any particular brands readily available in the US known for good quality, breathable summer clothing (shirts, shorts, dresses, pants) that hold up well? Looking for recommendations for staying comfortable during peak summer. Thanks!

Advice (industry advice) for creating a sustainable fashion brand to a fashion student

I’m a student studying sustainable fashion — I’d love to hear from experts and industry insiders!

Hi everyone,

I’m a high school student currently conducting a qualitative research project on sustainable fashion — with a focus on the role of fashion merchandisers in planning, marketing, and implementing sustainability.

As part of my research, I’m collecting insights through open-ended questions. The responses I receive will be used only for educational purposes, and no personal information will be recorded or disclosed. Your anonymity is fully respected, and any feedback is greatly appreciated!

If you’re a fashion professional, designer, merchandiser, or someone with experience in sustainability, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the following: 1.What marketing strategies are used to encourage consumers to choose sustainable fashion? 2.How do you address the cost or efficiency challenges that come with adopting eco-friendly production methods? 3.When planning sustainable fashion products, what do you consider the most important as a fashion merchandiser? 4.What kinds of eco-friendly materials or techniques do you commonly use when creating sustainable fashion items? 5.Do you take consumer awareness of sustainability into account when designing products? If so, how is that reflected in your work?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and possibly share your perspective. Your insight would be extremely helpful for my research!

India is one of the world’s largest textile producers—but less than 1% of our textile waste is recycled

With growing awareness of circular fashion, upcycling, and material innovation, why aren’t we seeing more large-scale adoption? • Are brands hesitant to invest in circularity? • Is the supply chain too fragmented? • Do we lack the right policies and incentives?

At Nadhi-SheForClimate, we’re bringing together designers, brands, material innovators, and investors at the Circular Fashion Dialogue in Mumbai—not just to talk, but to create real access and opportunities for collaboration.

If you’re working in circular design, fashion tech, or material innovation, what do you think is missing to scale these solutions? And what’s working?

Would love to hear from this community! Let’s build something better together. πŸ’š♻️

Trying to build a more sustainable wardrobe - Recommendations for durable, ethically made basic t-shirts?

I'm trying to move away from fast fashion and invest in fewer, better quality, more sustainable/ethical clothing items. Starting with the basics: plain t-shirts (men's/women's). Does anyone have recommendations for brands that make durable, comfortable, basic tees using sustainable materials (like organic cotton, Tencel, recycled materials) and ethical production practices, without an absolutely astronomical price tag? Looking for good value and longevity. Thanks!

Maxi Dresses with Slits: A Timeless Trend in 2025

Maxi Dresses with Slits: A Timeless Trend in 2025

Maxi dresses featuring slits have long been a staple in women's fashion, offering a blend of elegance and allure. As we embrace 2025, this trend continues to evolve, reflecting contemporary styles and preferences.

Current Trends in Maxi Dresses with Slits

Designers are pushing boundaries with higher slits and innovative cutouts, adding a modern twist to the classic maxi dress. This approach not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also introduces unique tan lines and bold fashion statements.

Styling Tips for Maxi Dresses with Slits

  • Footwear Choices: Pairing your maxi dress with slits the right footwear can elevate your look. For a casual vibe, white leather low-top sneakers are a great choice.
  • Layering for Modesty: If you prefer a more modest appearance, consider adding an insert or gore of similar-colored lace to the slit. This maintains the dress's shape and movement while providing additional coverage.
  • Knotting Techniques: To adjust the length or style of your maxi dress, tying a knot can be both functional and fashionable.

Struggling to land a fashion buying job that aligns with my values

Hi everyone,

I’m about to finish my Master’s in merchandising and have experience working in the industry as a salesperson and an internship in sustainability. I’ve been applying to buying roles, especially at outdoor or sustainable fashion brands I genuinely believe in, but I have either been rejected or not heard back. I’ve had my resume professionally reviewed and I’ve got good experience, but it’s still been a tough search.

Now I’m at the point where I’m debating:

  • Do I hold out for a company that aligns with my values?
  • Or take a role at a company I don’t fully believe in just to get started and pivot later?

I really want to be proud of the brand I work for, something that’s not just pumping out fast fashion. But I also need something lined up after graduation (in a month), and it’s starting to feel unrealistic to be so picky.

I know a buying position doesn’t exactly scream sustainability and minimalism, but that’s what I’ve been studying for the past several years and I’m very good at it (especially excel and math), and I swear all we read in the master’s program is sustainable fashion articles.

Some brands that have values I align with are brands focused on high quality and useful garments: Arc’teryx is my top choice. They have a sustainable program (ReBird) that would feel good having in the company I work for, even if I don’t work on it, and they sell good quality clothes. Other outdoors brands would be ideal too. I looked through all the B Corp certified brands and didn’t find much.

Would love to hear your thoughts or guidance on how to go about this journey of a buying/planning role in fashion that has good values.

Thanks for your time!!

TL;DR: Finishing my Master’s and struggling to land a fashion buying job at a brand I believe in (sustainable, outdoor, ethical). Getting rejections despite solid experience. Debating whether to hold out for the right company or take any job to get my foot in the door. Looking for advice.

Sabyasachi

Everyone’s talking about him. The man behind those iconic bridal lehengas, the royal campaigns, the jewelry that drips drama—and yes, the one who outsold Chanel in New York.

But who is Sabyasachi, really?

He’s the designer who turned heritage into a high-fashion movement. A storyteller who stitched nostalgia into couture. And a visionary who put Indian tradition on a global pedestal.

This isn’t just a label. It’s a legacy. Let’s talk about Sabyasachi.

Throw out vs repair underwear

Hey! I’m starting to notice that a lot of my underwear have holes and have lost their elasticity. For reference, I’ve had them for probably 6 years. Would it be best to try to repair them or buy new ones and use these as scraps? This might be a stupid question but I’m just not sure if it’s worth it to save them or not. Thanks!
