Anyone heard of komorebi? They are super new and I can't find any press to tell if they are legit

Has anyone heard of https://www.komorebi.earth/? As the title says, they are new and I am trying to figure out if they are actually as awesome as their website claims that they are.

Made this easy cut out and stitch the scraps on again - sweater. Pretty easy DIY and I used it in a sweater that had a lot of stains so they are finally gone!. Really like the texture. So if you r life is ruined by stained clothing, do not mind some holes, this is a recommendation ;)

Browser Extension with sustainability grades and recommendations

I have coded a browser extension that provides easy brand ratings from Good on You and suggests similar, more sustainable products. I would love if people would try and provide any feedback! :)

As I see many looking for sustainable alternatives for types of clothing (e.g. yoga pants, underwear), hopefully our recommender will be useful. Thanks!

Pretty cool new biofiber - agraloop - made from food waste

From Cool Hunting article: "Agraloop, though, isn’t just the final product. It is a separate entity from its output, the Agraloop BioFibre. Instead, it is a closed-loop system designed for eco-efficiency: the original fibers are dry-processed; the farms use organic fertilizer; the processing centers run on bioenergy and employ recycled wastewater; and the final product is born from a system that fuels itself, and produces zero waste. Plus, the system contributes to the health and wealth of the region the waste is sourced from—improving soil health (by limiting burns and lifting waste off fields), suppressing weeds, offering bioremediation and implementing a cooperative farming collaborative wherein farmers receive compensation for material that’s otherwise worthless."

Organic Cotton Sachet for Jewelry - Wholesale

I'm having a hard time finding sustainable and ethically made organic sachets. On Alibiba I find a company that says it's based in the US, but then, their plant is in Pakistan. How do I know if they are using a sweat shop?

Do you have any recommendations for an ethical, sustainable wholesale sachet company? I'm a designer, so this will be wholesale and in bulk.

[Question & Blog] Value in Sustainable Fashion for Consumers!

Ahoj all,

I released my second blog post this morning and would love if you would give it a read! It's about the different values to look for when shopping for sustainable and ethical fashion.

[link to blog] ---> Value in Sustainable Fashion for Consumers

These values range from "gives-back" to "vegan fashion" and everything in between! But there's no way I covered all

I'd love to hear which values you think are most important to you and why?! Also, if you think I missed any big ones! <3

Looking For Sustainable Men's Dress Pants

I have been on the wild hunt for a brand that has sustainable practices and creates good looking dress pants. I know about Everlane and KOTN but some of their styles are not what I am looking for. I'm creating a Kickstarter campaign to launch new drop-shipping platform with print-on-demand services which is 100% sustainable and self-sufficient and need your feedback to help make it better

Hi everyone, I've been spending the past year working on creating a brand new platform which gives people the ability to customize, buy, and sell sustainable apparel and merchandise all on the same platform. I've created a Kickstarter campaign to help raise the money to create this new platform and need your help. I am launching next month and want some feedback on how I can improve my campaign. I am curious to learn more about what you think as drop-shippers, what you expect from a platform, and how you think it can be improved. If this interests you visit the landing page or Kickstarter preview page to learn more and sign-up for emails to stay updated on our campaign launch progress.

Certified Organic Cotton

Cotton field

According to a recent article, organic cotton makes up less than 1% of the world’s global cotton production. Always Trendin is supporting a number of brands who are making the change towards organic cotton.

Organic cotton is grown on organic farms using natural resources. This reduces environmental risks and is great to use for manufacturing clothing unlike non-organic cotton.

Sustainability of Certified Organic Cotton

The use of organic cotton offers multiple health and atmosphere benefits to people around the world. The purpose of certified organic cotton is to lead the use of clothing that is comfortable and safe to use. Certified organic cotton is more sustainable than non-organic cotton because:

  • Organic cotton is environment friendly because the process of fiber formation doesn’t include chemicals and uses 91% less water unlike non-organic cotton or mixed fibers.
  • The use of organic cotton is remarkable and best in washing as well. Instead of the non-organic cotton material, the use of the organic cotton material is more sustainable and has a longer life cycle.

How is Organic Cotton Certified?

The certification of organic cotton provides proof of the quality of the fabric for the consumer. The authorities certify cotton after testing its quality, source and processing. Acquiring the certification brings a number of benefits for manufacturers including:

  • Ensuring the process of generating the cotton is pure and without any contamination. Cotton is harvested through organic means and during the whole process of seed sowing, it doesn’t contain any contaminants from harmful chemicals.
  • Consumers can rely on the certification as proof that no chemicals were used during the cotton processing and milling.

Standards of the Organic Cotton Certification

According to the standards, there are certain certifications like Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) and Organic Content Standards (OCS). As per the certification it is ensured that the company produce organic cotton that is safe to use, through the natural resources.

At Always Trendin – Certified Organic Cotton is a Priority!

Here at AT we ensure that the cotton used in our made to order range is only Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic or Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) cotton. Our mission is to make use of only recycled or certified organic materials in all our product offerings.

Sustainable fashion brand is starting a zine and looking for submissions!

Are you interested in fashion and/or sustainability? Then keep reading!

Hey! I run a fashion brand called Muda New York. It focuses on creating sustainable and ethical fashion. But I know my prices aren't affordable and not accessible because everything made is sustainable and ethical. So, I'm starting a zine with the sewing patterns to all my items to make my fashion more accessible.

I would love to have people submit fashion photos and writing about sustainability, fashion, fast fashion, sustainable fashion, fashion in a pandemic, etc. Email me at [mudanewyork@gmail.com](mailto:mudanewyork@gmail.com) or dm me on instagram (Mudanewyork or Mudanewyorkzine) you're interested and I'll put together specifics if people are interested! Thanks! :)

Small Sustainable Fashion Brand For Young Artists

Hey friends! I just wanted to share my sustainable clothing company that I have been running for a couple years now when I have time in between school and work.

We are a San Diego based brand for young creatives/artists who care about the environment and social justice issues. Although we are always attempting to move forward with more sustainable practices, right now we make all of our clothing out of 100% Organic Cotton, Recycled Polyester, or by thrifting the garments we print on. We just released a new T-shirt design in collaboration with one of our local non-profit galleries/safe spaces for art, activism, and music. 100% of the profits will be donated to them and all of the t-shirts from this collection have been thrifted. We'd love and appreciate any support!

Hi guys, I was wondering if I would be allowed to post a link to my university study questionnaire (I know some places are strict about posting own work etc). "sustainable" sweater brands you should never buy from

I debated for a while about writing this article. Normally I don't like to call brands out. But, ultimately I decided I needed to say something. After all, that is why I started virtue + vice, to give a real behind the seams look at fashion and share info that normally only industry professionals are privy to.

A lot of the brands that many people in this group think are "ethical and sustainable", are really just a bunch of bs crafted by marketing teams and sold to "influencers" in the form of free stuff for shilling their greenwashing message.

So, here it is. This is what me, and my industry friends talk about behind closed doors. Learn the truth about Everlane, Naadam, Fiber Shed, KD New York's "vegetable cashmere", and the racism and fake science at Panagia's core.

Plus I give a list of a few brands I truly respect in the animal fiber game.

[BLOG WRITER QUESTION] Why do you think more people don't purchase more sustainably today?

I feel like most people today has received some form of exposure into the unethical nature of the fashion industry. Specifically fast fashion and a throwaway culture. It's pretty hard to ignore the impact of the 2nd largest contributor to green house emissions globally.

I'm curious to hear why every-day consumers/shoppers don't shop secondhand, eco-friendly materials, fair-trade, ensured clothing, etc.

P.S. I write blogs on sustainable fashion so any input would be helpful

Faux leather vs real leather- thoughts?

Hi I wanted some help on buying new boots. I want to know everyone’s opinions on faux leather bs real leather products. Which is more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

I’ve been looking more towards second hand leather boots but I’ve heard that leather can have a much greater impact to the environment. I am also concerned by the animal welfare aspect of real leather production

I ve been more swayed to getting leather as I’ve bought pleather but they hardly last and I can’t repair them like I can my other leather boots (I’ve had for many years).

Just any advice and opinions so I can make a conscious and sustainable choice would be greatly appreciated !!

Thoughts on sustainable fashion for men?

We know that the fashion industry is the most polluting industry out there. Obviously, the most sustainable option is to not buy anything. What are your thoughts? Is there an alternative? Where do men shop these days?

Sustainable Tote Bag, please support!!

Hi, I own a sustainable marketplace brand called Proper Market, we focus on full sustainability and also supporting small business. Tonight at 8pm GMT we are launching our first product, a tote bag. This bag is a collaboration between ourselves and a small brand called Ink Tank, they print all the designs by hand using Lino techniques, so a lot of work goes into each one. It would’ve great if any of you could check it out :) Thanks Proper Market X Ink Tank Tote Bag

Sustainably Produced or Sustainable Wear?

Just doing a bit of market research because we care a lot about sustainability. What is considered more sustainable/optimal?

  1. Clothing made from sustainably sourced materials like organic cotton, but with quicker wear and tear
  2. Clothing made from really high quality (but not necessarily as immediately environmentally sustainable) materials that last longer ... long enough that it could be comparably sustainable

Any insight is much appreciated! :)

Hey eco-friendly people of Reddit,

I recently started a new online retail store for high quality, sustainable products.

We're based in Australia and our website is Paralian Pacific | Sustainable Products. We donate 10% of profits to causes that protect wildlife, preserve forests and clean the ocean.

I would love to hear some feedback/things you (my target audience) would like to see us do/sell in the future. Our company is built on the belief that being sustainable shouldn’t mean having to sacrifice quality.

Thanks in advance!

[2021 Resolution] Smaller sustainable brands In the US

Hi All,

I’m relatively new to sustainable fashion and was wondering what are some of your favorite ethical and sustainable fashion brands for both men and women?

I’ve decided for my New Years resolution I am only going to shop clothing from brands I personally deem fair and ethical. Also, I want to buy from smaller brands that might be struggling through Covid.

Here are some of my personal requirements:

  • not a super well-known or large brand
  • natural and organic fabrics, recycled fabrics and/or upcycled garments
  • Brands that have expressed a higher responsibility for taking care of their employees and ensuring fair practices
  • sourced/produced/manufactured in the US

Optional requirements:

  • Brands have a “gives-back” program
  • committed to minimizing their carbon footprint
  • certified by fair trade, OEKO-Tex, or any other large certifications

FYI, I’m a male, but help my family with clothing & I have a girlfriend who loves anything sustainable!

Honestly the more brands I know about the better! Thank you so much for any responses!

Peace on Earth ✌️

Anyone else think that brands that only show influencers wearing their clothes are problematic?

Of course, having known celebrities, influencers, etc., is a good marketing strategy because people buy what they know, but I’m tired of seeing brands marketing themselves as ‘sustainable’ because it’s the new buzzword when they’re really just luxury. The influencers who model their clothes can afford them, but are usually sent them anyways, yet these brands expect normal people to be able to be able to afford $100+ leggings and $50+ sports bras?? I think the point of creating sustainable clothes should mean making them as widely accessible as possible so that MORE people have eco-friendly options, not exclusive to people who get sent the clothes anyways or to people who can afford them.
