Misuse of sustainability tags in fashion

Hello everyone, I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of brands that claim sustainability just in the name of better packaging, or better material. Just picking one segment in the value chain actually doesn't make any brand sustainable on a cumulative basis. I feel there is a strong need for regulations on the use of the “sustainable”/”eco-friendly” tag.

What do you guys think can be a solution to this hoax?

What is sustainable fashion anyway?

I have more questions! The title is the general idea of this post.

I do see there is no point in buying so many clothes when all you have to do is cover your body and look presentable A few months back I was very much into buying apparels that were branded. I’d buy anything and everything especially if it was cheap.

So how do you check which brands are sustainable? Are expensive luxury brands sustainable? Is sustainability only up cycling and thrifting? What is the point of sustainability? Can someone please make a list of brands that definitely not sustainable and need to be avoided at all costs? What makes a brand sustainable?

Checking a Product's Sustainable & Ethical Certifications

Hi there! I'm the creator of KindBuys. Our mission is to aggregate all sustainable & ethical certification data for all products. We recently launched our Product Database, which allows consumers to search for a product and check its certifications.

Right now, we manually enter all of this data ourselves. We are about to launch a crowdsourcing feature that will allow users to enter product information on their own (which will then be reviewed by our team), but we also have a feature for companies to enter their own information. If a company manages their own data, then when the user sees their products in our Product Database, it will have a "company verified" badge on it.

We will also be launching an API for businesses to use this data in the very near future, so stay tuned for updates on that!

Can Technology Eliminate Fashion’s $500B Overproduction Problem? The fashion industry is one of the most wasteful industries in the world. Globally, the industry creates 13 million tons of textile waste each year

What consumers may not be aware of is that 35% of all materials in the supply chain end up as waste before a product even reaches a customer. Some of this is cutting waste, unusable stock due to last-minute design changes, or spoilage in transport. However, the largest contributor to waste is excess inventory that does not sell on the retail market. Among 150 billion garments produced per year on average, only 20% to 30% sell at full retail price, and only 40% to 50% sell at a discount. Thirty percent do not sell at all and go straight to a landfill or incinerator.

Looking for Replacements

Hello. I want to replace items with sustainable options and I am doing ok with certain things, but not great with the items I have come to trust and fit well enough. I am plus sized (ranging 16-20 women) and the pixie pants from Old Navy just always fit and are just a consistent item for me. I am finding options that are almost dupes, but are always missing something, whether it be sizing, zippers, etc. The Ponte Pants from Universal Standard are the closest I have come across, they are more leggings that don't zip and I do not like that look on me. Does anyone by chance have a suggestion? I am a teacher and I am being so serious when I say these pants make my life easier! Dress up/down, comfortable. I want to keep that but want a more sustainable brand. I've even looked on secondhand site but haven't had much luck. Thanks!

I like brands like madewell, everlane, etc. They are more expensive than fast fashion but I think I'm paying for sustainability and quality. But everything I get is like tissue paper thin. Sustainable/Recycled Embroidery Machine Stabilizer

Hi, I recently got an embroidery machine that I love using but hate that I have to buy new stabilizer each time I wanna do a design. I've looked online a bit for recycled stabilizer but have not found any that have third party certification that it is actually recycled. I'm wondering if there's a 100% recycled stabilizer that anyone uses, or more sustainable options than buying stabilizer from the fabric store.

For reference I'm mostly embroidering on hoodie/crewneck fabric. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks!

For example all of the tags that are usually sewn onto the collar of clothes, or the various tags that are attached to newly purchased clothes, what if there was a way for them all to be digital in an effort to reduce materials being used on tabs.
