Seeking Opinion: Striking a Balance Between Slow Fashion and Kids' Preferences
I'd love to hear your thoughts on a topic that's been on my mind. As a slow fashion brand for kids, we specialize in using natural dyes, resulting in a gentle and pastel colour palette for kids' clothing. Additionally, we take pride in embellishing kids' outfits with intricate hand embroidery, often featuring vintage-inspired designs. This approach tends to resonate well with modern eco-conscious moms, which is fantastic.
However, in a world where kids are exposed to vibrant colors and trends from a very young age, we've noticed that our designs might not capture kids' attention as much. It's a challenge to strike a balance between the principles of slow fashion and minimalism that many of us value, and the desire to cater to children's preferences that includes trendy styles (especially of age 6 years and above).
I'd greatly appreciate your insights. How do you think we can successfully blend the essence of slow fashion and minimalism with the ever-changing trends that kids are drawn to? Your opinions and experiences would mean a lot as we navigate this creative journey together.

How to ask family members/friends to not buy me gifts from Shein/Temu.
Thinking in terms of Christmas/Birthday. I see so many people saying how great shein and temu are for cheap gifts. I already received a couple of gifts from shein last xmas and never used them due to concerns around lead levels etc. How do you go about requesting to not be given these types of gifts? I don't want to sound rude or ungrateful but I really don't want anyone purchasing from these places on my behalf.

Do you believe that designing adjustable clothing that grows with the kids is a valuable solution to address the waste produced by children's clothing?
As per our research, kids change 17 sizes by the age of 12 years. For parents it is waste of money and for planet it is waste of resources.
Hence we embed adjustable closures in all our kids outfits to ensure the clothes are adjustable both in terms of growing length and breadth. Each outfit can be used 3X times longer than the conventional clothes. It also offsets the additional cost that is associated with sustainable outfit compared to fast fashion. Would be happy to hear your thoughts on the concept.

New platform wants a craft beer boom, but now for indie footwear
I’ve defected from the corporate sustainability world to pour all my energy into a platform that showcases independent footwear businesses making the most sustainable kicks around the world. It's called Cobbled Goods.
It is an experiment of sorts to see if we can model the rise of craft brewing in other areas of the economy. We want to displace big business marketshare with high quality indie brands that each have their own unique flavours from recyclable 3D printed clogs, to traditional west African craft revitalizing sneakers, and modular running shoes. The goal is to leave behind the old systems of mass production and disposability by demonstrating new ways of doing things that respect makers and nature.
What makes us different than your average sustainable fashion platform is that we put business design before product design because it gets to the heart of, who has power to make sustainability aligned decisions, and how wealth is distributed.
Before I launch this September, I'd love any and all feedback... no matter how, brutal, small, or crazy :) It will help me make it as useful as possible, and I'd rather hear it from reddit before it goes out to a wider audience. If you enjoy the platform, have any ideas for how to improve it, or find a usability issue, I want to hear from you. Please PM me or comment below anytime

For Days - Take Back Bag
lets talk about this... I was bombed on Instagram about "For Days Take Back Bag." You pay $20 and they give you a bag to fill up with old recycled fabrics and they give you $20 back in "Closet Cash."
I caved and I bought two bags since I had a pile of old sheets and clothes lying in my garage I didn't know what to do with...I felt kinda weird after I purchased it.. I wasnt really getting a discount... I already paid them $40 for these recycling bags. If I never used their "Closet Cash" or purchased anything from their website, I'm still short $40. If i never recycled anything and just kept the bags, I'm still short $40.. Seems like I just gave them $40.
I think this is a total scam preying on my environmental guilt, to buy clothing on their website. I could have easily found a local recycling center online or shelter to donate these old sheets and fabrics.
Now I'm forced to buy something from their website.... They have pretty infographics that seem like theyre a company doing good for the environment with texts like this:
" Since 2018, we’ve recycled 4 tons of used For Days clothing. These are currently being made into 100% Closed Loop Collections, which will be launching soon. "
...ok its 2023. where is this line?
" 10% of all returned For Days oldies are resold"
..ok what is an OLDIE? i dont see a used section in their website.
anyway.. I'm done with my thoughts.. Their "Circular fashion" concept is just plain ole consumerism IMO. let me know yours.

Leather or nylon?
Hello! I want to buy a small messenger bag and was wondering: which material is better as in:
- Which one hurts less people that make materials and bags. Synthetic fabric production pollutes the air and makes people sick, but I don't know if leather is better in this regard. Natural leather is also made using toxic chemicals, as far as I know. But the material itself is natural.
- Which one is more durable. I would like to use my bag for at least 4-5 years and for it to look good while I'm wearing it.
If you know something useful, please share your thoughts in the comments! Thanks.

How to fade bright clothes?
I've recently dyed some white clothes that had stains. I dyed them blue but it's come out a bit brighter than I'm happy with. I think if I could fade them to a pastel blue they would look great. Any have any advice on the best way to do this? Thanks

cotton slip in different lengths
Was just discussing with someone who posted about this, not able to contact them anymore (blocked maybe? not sure). Hoping they can see this- https://www.etsy.com/listing/890684472/full-slip-white-underdress-underdress?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=cotton+slips&ref=sr_gallery-1-1&frs=1&organic_search_click=1
A simple cotton slip, that comes in different lengths, and isn't too pricey. I typed "cotton slip" in to the search bar and this was in the top 5 results (there were several other shops as well, but I did not check them out).

Microfiber release marketing campaigns
Hi all,
I recently came across a couple intriguing marketing campaigns and product development initiatives that address the pressing issue of microfiber release and pollution in the fashion industry:
- Grundig with its FiberCatcher technology:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHnz200_YHc
- Patagonia with a blog post on their contribution to tackle the issue:https://www.patagonia.com/stories/toward-an-end-to-microfiber-pollution/story-141340.html
- GuppyFriend with their social media presence:https://www.instagram.com/guppyfriend/
- Zara Home and its liquid detergent reducing microfibre shedding during washing:https://www.zarahome.com/gb/750ml-liquid-detergent-l46444725
These campaigns have sparked my curiousity about how marketing efforts can influence our perceptions of sustainability and environmental concerns especially in terms of microplastics. I'd love to engage with you all and hear your opinions on these campaigns!

How do I conclude if something is genuinely sustainable?
I am really in need of buying clothes, but I have decided that my clothes should be as much environmentally friendly as possible. After two days of research I was able to find a good amount of such items around me (they all seem to be tooo expensive but it is a different topic) but even then I could not find much or any way to verify if they are actually made of sustainable materials or not, other than the company claiming that their jeans is made of 100% Organic Cotton I could not find much information on them. It kinda makes me think that I might waste my money on a marketing scam.
What are some ways to find if some clothes would be genuinely sustainable or not?

New to sustainable fashion / slow fashion
As the title says, I'm pretty new to all of this slow fashion ideas. I'm wondering where folks here go to resell their clothes that they are ready to part with.
I just started looking into Poshmark, which seems nice but also like a lot of work to upkeep in order to make sales. Is it overrated? Are there other sites that are more straight forward without all of the following and reposting business?

2 Questions
Hii I’m brand new to learning about sustainable fashion and have 2 questions.
-
Is it ethical to thrift items for horrible places? For example I found pants on de pop and a shirt in a thrift store, was horrified when I was the tag of where it originated from. But technically I’m not supporting the brand because it’s second hand and already exists?
-
I have wayyyy to many summer/spring clothes and barely any winter/fall clothes so I need more clothes even though my wardrobe is already huge. But the thing is I do wear a ton of the stuff I already own. I’m gonna try and sell some things but otherwise any suggestions how to handle this?

Sustainable shopping fail long rant - f**k ARQ!
Does it happen to you sometimes that you spend hours researching this one particular thing - in my case cotton underwear - you make sure the company is sustainable, you actually find something that looks nice, find the color that you want, you bring yourself to cut a substantial chunk out of your bank account on this - convincing yourself that it's 100% worth it because you're supporting a small company blah blah, plus you REALLY need this - like I really need underwear right now because sometimes it's just really past time you bought replacement for really worn-out things...So you do all this only to have to f*cking throw the whole thing in the trash in the end...and this whole sustainable thing ends up not worth it.
In my search for decent sustainable underwear I came across ARQ. I was a bit skeptical at the beginning because the website doesn't allow people to write reviews but I decided to order anyway. Followed their size chart, picked what I thought was my size. Read their exchange policies etc - no exchange on panties, can only exchange bras. I figured since I've been buying my clothes almost exclusively online for years and 99.8% of the time have gotten the correct size and I have never ever bought a pair of panties in a wrong size from anywhere - bras are more complicated for me, never panties - I decided to place an order for a Magda bra and two High-rise panties, everything in black.
Hell started when I tried to place an order. Payment wasn't going through, charged my bank account twice without actually placing an order, finally went through on the third time.
Fast forward to the delivery day. USPS was super sketchy and marked my package as "picked up by an individual at a post office"...hmmm what? No package at my door, I was home, no one even rang the bell. Went to the ARQ website and they have a whole separate FAQ section on this - so this, like, happens all the time with this company? The package magically appeared at my doorstep the next day. But it just didn't add any positivity to my experience.
Anyway, I opened the package, was pleasantly surprised by how nice the fabric felt in my hands. Until I pulled everything out...just one look at the bra told me it would be too big. Tried it on, yep, too big. Tried on the panties, kind of fit but kind of too big as well, I would have definitely sized down had I known.
Went to the website to initiate an exchange at least on the f*cking bra. Smaller size out of stock. Sent an email to ARQ right away asking if they will be restocking soon. They replied that "we don't have any current plans to restock our Magda bras once our current stock of them has depleted, so I would recommend returning that item and exchanging it for a different style altogether". The customer service representative then proceeded to recommend me a different bra...which when I went to look at turned out they don't currently have in black OR in my size at all in any color. LOL. When I pointed that out, the reply was that they will be restocking it in the next couple of months. LOL. I already wasted over $100, so now am I supposed to waste more on returns and shipping and sh*t plus wait an indefinite amount of months for the underwear that I need to be wearing today because like...I really need some underwear? Exchange for white color, waste more money and time (plus produce more trash in the process) on dye and try to dye it hoping the shade of black will match the undies? Ugh!
I am so mad right now. Sometimes I just want to go back to buying fast fashion I swear, it was just so much easier. Now I am stuck with an underwear set that I cannot wear. I bought this as a set specifically, I have no use for the two undies whatsoever - I cannot stand wearing non-matching underwear, it literally drives me crazy. Plus, they're slightly too big anyway - I imagine they will only stretch out further with wear. I am just beyond mad and need to vent.
Has something similar ever happened to you on your sustainable fashion journey? Cursing the days when I was a kid and had sewing lessons at school...I thought they were boring...could have been happily making my own clothes now otherwise, who knows lol.

Recommendations for slips for (kind of) tall people
Got frustrated searching for slips to wear under dresses, preferably cotton or some other natural fabric. I’m 5’7” which isn’t even that tall but most slips that I’ve seen out there seem to be made for shorter folks and just barely cover my butt lol.. Very few shops actually let you pick the length, so frustrating... Currently need something knee length or a bit above the knee in black. I know where to get lingerie slips but currently I just need something basic for everyday use, good quality, easy to wash. Thanks!
