Recycled clothing??

Has anyone ever bought clothing that's been recycled? I like the idea of 'no waste' clothing, but it's £60 for a hoodie and I'm wondering what the materials like, before I part with £60.

About the B Corp certification

I'm curious whether the B Corp certification truly merits a company's involvement or if it's merely another attempt at greenwashing. After reading through the Handbook, I've noticed that some of the companies mentioned are among the most polluting and least ethical I've ever seen. How can the B Corp certification ensure genuine social and environmental responsibility, and how are companies that fail to meet these standards held accountable ?

Anyone found a strapless shapewear company that's ethical?

I'm looking for a strapless shapewear bra/body suit for a one shouldered bridesmaid dress, I was looking at wacoal and some other brands but apparently they don't do anything for living wages or the environment according to the good on you directory despite having a pretty hefty price tag, hoping to find a brand that's not the worst lol πŸ₯²

What are some fun essential beauty items?

I've never grown out my hair or beautified myself like a lady before and don't know much about that. Let's say my budget is $100 for the year. What basic, time efficient and sustainable beauty essentials should I consider buying? I have straight, normal hair. I already use cardboard packaged bar shampoo and a safety razor with recycleable blades and I make shaving cream from shea butter and castille soap. I found an old blow drier in my house too. I have a brush and comb and elastic hair ties (not sustainable, I know, but I already have them).

What got you to care about sustainable fashion?

In all honesty I'm a co-founder at a sustainable fashion marketplace start up but the reason I started this with my founder is that I had NO idea about the horrors in the fashion supply chain, from treatment of workers to toxic chemicals on clothing that I couldn't believe our government would allow, to the implications on climate change. But for ME I just was upset that I could be a 35 year old educated woman who was completely ignorant to this whole other world that was hiding in plain sight. So i'm wondering what drove you to change your behavior around shopping and what part of "sustainable" got you excited. Hoping this question is okay to ask and just seeking feedback from real people!

You can just give things away

Okay for more seasoned sustainable fashionistas this will be very obvious. But I feel like actually not a lot of people do this.

You can literally just give things away. Fast fashion resale is very difficult and often people don't sell things because "This was cheap to begin with, I've tried selling things before, and nobody ever buys it." So they end up donating them or chucking them out. I've been super guilty of this. I used to put my clothes in donation bins and probably none of it ever ended up in an op shop (thrift store).

If you have fast fashion items you bought before you started getting into sustainable fashion, that no longer fit you/aren't right for you anymore/you no longer wear, you can just list them on fb marketplace for free. 9 times out of 10 someone will want it, and if it's free they will come pick it up from you. Contactless, easy, and saves the item from going straight to the dump!

Very obvious to some people but I feel like it doesn't get done enough. I'm happy that I've found a low effort way to regift some items that no longer work for me, but have little to no resale value.

Old Money/Elegant Ethical Clothing

My (F) style is very Ralph Lauren ad/ elegant European. Almost all sustainable clothing I’ve seen so far has been giving burlap sack. What are some brands (ex. Sezane though I know good on you finds it not good enough) that have my style while being elegant/good quality? Also, the ones I‘ve found that may lean in that direction charge like 500 dollars per item, which I cannot afford. Preferred price range is about 100 dollars a piece. (p.s. thrifting isn’t an option)

Top Business Sustainability Goals for 2024 : Making an Impact:

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies and standard regulations are becoming a dominant force for organizations and the way they operate and function. Understanding the tons of disparate data available to organizations is the biggest challenge, regardless of where they lie on the sustainability preparedness spectrum.

As sustainability is being morphed from carbon emissions tracking into company-wide commitments to achieve set global imperatives, organizations are finding themselves in the business of building a healthier world.

In 2024, environmental sustainability will be forced into the spotlight as organizations gear up to drive further change. The year will witness many events with implications for the environment, biodiversity, and global sustainability. From advancing sustainable management to fostering inclusive collaboration for biodiversity, organizations will work to support innovation and partnerships for people and the planet.

Reaching net-zero emissions in 2050 is emerging as a significant imperative for businesses to preserve a sustainable future for generations to come. But change needs to happen today to achieve that goal. It is time for organizations to integrate a reimagined approach that highlights the importance of steering away from long-term commitments and embracing tangible actions to make a positive impact. This is what the planet needs in 2024.

The sustainability goal for 2024 is not just about committing to distant aspirations but about taking decisive actions and executing projects that deliver immediate economic and environmental impact. By prioritizing short-term goals with measurable outcomes, organizations can acknowledge the urgency of the environmental crisis and work towards delivering on the need for tangible progress.

How to Spot Greenwashing - 2024 Outlook

With green products finding a place everywhere, words like “eco-friendly,” “all-natural,” and “organic” are being used previously in everyday conversation. And this list of environmental claims goes on. While these terms are not always meaningful, most of these green claims have been reduced to being marketing jargon.

And these misleading environmental claims are becoming a significant problem.

But the better news is that consumers today are playing a critical role in pushing marketplaces toward more planet-friendly practices. With more and more consumers becoming aware of the risks of climate change, they are trying to adopt more environmentally conscious behaviors and sensing opportunities to jump on the green marketing bandwagon. Here are some guidelines that will help you learn to spot greenwashing

The goal of greenwashing is to make a profit, not actually to benefit the environment in any way. Companies that employ greenwashing tactics to market their products or services are taking advantage of the growing consumer demand for eco-friendly products. Their aim is to sell their product or service, and green marketing often helps them to achieve this.

Jute is also known as “golden fiber,” which have been historically woven into textiles for creating fabrics that are rough yet durable.

Traditional clothing items, such as sarees and other garments, have been crafted from jute textiles, particularly in the Indian subcontinent.

As sustainability becomes a more significant concern in the fashion industry, designers are exploring alternative materials, and jute is gaining attention for its biodegradability and renewability.

Where did Back Beat Co go?

In my hunt for more ethical and sustainable fashion, I bought a couple of sweaters from Back Beat in back in 2021 and loved them. A few months ago, I went to visit their website and a security error pops up. I checked their Instagram and the last image posted was summer of 2023 promoting their clothes. No posts about them shutting down.

Their items are still listed on Madewell’s website though…

Sustainable Alternative/goth/punk brands?

I've been getting super frustrated lately as thrift & consignment has been getting SO expensive lately, so I've been looking for businesses I can support while also not breaking the bank. I just recently bought from Tunnel Vision because they had a huge sale in January, and I've heard their constant talk about how small, communist, and sustainable they are. I got my order in and the quality is SO fast-fashion-esque (all polyester/plastic fabric) and everything is made in china (which i know can be sustainable, but the quality is giving Forever 21, not small-local-business quality. Especially for the price these items are listed as, this is not what I expected).

It seems like places like Etsy and Depop are totally overrun with resellers and dropshippers from fast fashion Alibaba/aliexpress/teemu/wish...

Anyone have any recommendations for affordable REAL sustainable options for alt/goth/punk clothing?

How to sustainably clean your clothes when living alone?

Hello everyone, not sure if this is the correct subreddit for this, but I wonder if anyone had any advice on how to wash and care for you clothes and not wasting a bunch of water even though you live alone? Taking proper care of the clothes you already have is a huge part of a sustainable wardrobe and I really want to attempt this this year. So theoretically I should be dividing my clothes by colour, purpose and care instructions but, since I live alone and don’t dirty up THAT many clothes, it just seems like a huge waste to do a separate wash for lights, darks, underwear&towels and things like wool. Would love to hear any suggestions, hope you all have a wonderful day :)

Fashion brands' Take-back programs

Hi, has anyone experienced fashion take-back programs?

I am interested in fashion take-back programs, so I've started working on research in this area. I've realized that I need insights from those who have actually participated in these programs, which I plan to gather through interviews.

I'm not sure if it's okay to look for Zoom interview participants here. I am a second-year doctoral student at NC State University.

If you are interested or need more details, please let me know anytime at [hseo4@ncsu.edu](mailto:hseo4@ncsu.edu) !

Help me creat a user center design for my Master degree

Hi!

I am a student in Sustainable Fashion Master's degree, I am looking for a community that could help me build a product based on users' needs.

User design means the designer should listen to what the users want. So let me know if you are interested in a few exchanges or if you need a certain type of fashion product or service that you cannot find anywhere and we will develop your idea and make it sustainable.

It could be that you have a hobby but you lack a tool or your garment is not adapted to the practice enough so we gather with other people doing this hobby and discuss the needs of the community and develop solutions.

Oh and you don't need to have any knowledge about fashion!

If you are interested let me know!

Cute sustainable bag made with cactus leather!!! πŸ’š

It can be a bit hard sometimes to find both cute and sustainable fashion accessories, so I've been researching the coolest sustainable brands and been making video reviews about their products. And it would help me a lot if you could take a look at my YT channel :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_cWiQrlEiU&t=28s

WAYWT Sustainable Edition

The workweek has started. Show off your sustainable Monday fit.

Share a bit about why your fit is sustainable.

This is a judgment-free zone. We all know sustainability in fashion is nuanced and complicated, so don't sweat it. For example, your polyester shirt may not be "eco-friendly" but if you've had it a long time, wear it a lot, and plan to keep it a long time then it's about as sustainable as you can get simply by how your wear it.

Let's celebrate the different approaches people and brands take to address our common goal.

I'm new to the world of knowledge of corruption, or how bad it is... need help changing purchasing habits

Both my husband and I want to change our lifestyle to support fair trade and sustainable clothing and shoes. We live in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Hopeful someone could point us to a website or something that has a list of all the companies for men and women's clothing (and Shoes). I hope there are not as few as I can find with a simple Google search. And less than 70.00 for a basic tee shirt πŸ€”

In the mean time we are thrifting and getting crafty with clothing modifcation, dyes and bleach.

FOR DAYS company = total scam

The For Days company is a total scam. Complete con artists. They are the least transparent business of all time, and they will dupe you into giving them money. I googled other Reddit responses, and it seems like other people already know this. So how do we expose them? How do we take them down? They are preying on people with an environmental conscience in order rip them off!

Brand Alert!

Just got beautiful pieces from this indie label in India called Kokun, they employ rural women, use natural dyes and organic textiles, and one piece that's made from fabric cuttings called 'katran'.

Any recommendations of brands that rescue defected clothing from factories?

Last year, I rescued 489 pieces from one factory and 80% had no defects, the other 20% just had tiny holes, specs of paint or off-centered labels. They have all been repaired and are for sale now with 10% of profits supporting environmental organisations. I want to know if there is someone else going down a similar path or even rescuing other products besides clothes? I would love connect and share experiences for this common mission. Thanks a lot :)
