Hi everyone!

I’m planning my wedding and would love to make my dress as sustainable as possible. I’m on a budget, so I’m exploring options like:
- Repurposing a second-hand designer gown.
- Shopping from designer sample pieces and recreating the dress to match a design I love.

I’m based in India but also live in the UK part-time, so I’m open to stores, tailors, or online options in India, nearby Asia, the UK, or Europe.

Looking for polyester free shoes with good support for distance running

I have a polyester allergy since having Covid and have been a distance runner for years. Looking for polyester free shoes I can wear that have good support for over pronation (I ran half marathons and marathons in the past and have had foot injuries so having supportive shoes is necessary). I used to wear asics but have emailed with their rep and they have literally no shoes that do not contain polyester.

I’d really appreciate any recs for this issue, shoe laces are ofc easy to replace as are in soles , but it’s been really hard to not be able to run bc of this accessibility issue. Thanks!

File a Complaint Against Nisolo for Five for Five Scam

I supported Nashville based company Nisolo for years before participating in their "5 for 5 Club" where they agree to send you shoes for 5 years for a payment up front. A year in a half in, they send an email pausing the program for 6 months. That was almost 9 months ago, and now I guess they are under new ownership and not honoring the program. I paid a lot of money for that subscription, and I feel like I've been totally ripped off. I have since filed a complaint with TN Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs. Second hand leather shoes vs new vegan shoes?

I really need new boots for work! I’m a massive thrifter but I haven’t been able to find anything in the local secondhand shops. I’m also trying to reduce my use of animal products (I’m vegetarian), so I’ve been looking for vegan boots on Depop. There’s literally nothing in my size and country (I feel like ordering from overseas kind of defeats the point). There are what look like great quality vegan boots I can buy new. So what is better for the environment- buying secondhand leather or unsustainable shoes or new vegan/recycled shoes?

Is there good and bad polyester?

Polyester is one of the materials that feels cheap to wear, not breatheable or comfortable. Especially not 100% polyester. Still, there is these cheap mass produced items made of poly, and then I can come across for example a Ralph Lauren dress that costs 15 times more than the She*n one. And that piece is also made out of 100% polyester. Is there any difference materialwise? Or is the price based on manufacturing place/process and brand?

Edit: Oops, I didn't clarify, that the question was also about the good/bad environmental reasons.

Online Shopping and manipulation

I'm so sick of trying to buy 1 item on an online site, and being absolutely bombarded with psychological tactics to get me to buy more, its literally infuriating. Im a software engineer so though id play around with changing the sites, this basically grew into a project.

Im working on something similar to an ad blocker, but for online shops, where you can choose to view only completely relevant sections of a website (e.g. not a million discount badges, and sections shouting at you that 500 people are looking at the same item) i think something like this will really lessen the amount of impulse purchases for people, and help mother nature heal, even if just a little bit :)

I'm about 2 weeks away from being ready to get some people to test the chrome extension (don't worry if you don't know what that is, if you use google chrome to do your clothing / beauty shopping, this is for you), in return for a free lifetime subscription when the final version is released.

Is anyone interested in helping out?

If you’re unable to do that, I’d be interest to know which shopping sites cause you the most headache, and I’ll add it to my list to make my extension work on it!

Is renting clothes actually worth it? Anyone tried it?

I rented clothes for my child when he was little, but I haven't tried renting adult clothes before.

I have some minor health issues that mean my weight is always fluctuating and I seem to have to change my clothes every year as my dress size has changed. (Annoying when you're trying to be sustainable on a budget).

I have recently tried namarie, really impressed from their softness, comfort and supportive design. It’s all made from a unique fabric they call Sylvendel. They’re squat proof and sooo soft. Upcycled Fabric Bags – A Sustainable Solution to Reduce Waste

Hey everyone!

I’m reaching out to share a personal project I’ve been working on: I’ve started creating eco-friendly bags using upcycled fabric scraps! 🌍👜

The idea came from my desire to reduce waste and create something functional from materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. These bags are completely made from discarded fabrics that are sewn together into one-of-a-kind designs. Not only does this give new life to fabric that would otherwise be thrown away, but it also helps reduce the need for new materials, making it a win for the planet! 🌱♻️

Wear It Wednesday

I’ve seen the concept before but I’m looking for some united front where I can participate. The last iteration I saw was from an IG stylist on Substack that spent 5 days wearing clothes she owned but never wore. The idea isn’t new but her explanation resonated because she broke down her reasons (doesn’t fit, out of fashion, don’t want to get dirty, wrong occasion, etc) and decided that in 2025 you could wear a Spider-Man costume to your legal office on Monday and it will be forgotten by Friday.

So I thought it would be nice if the collective world wore those items on a specific day so we all know we are trying something out of uniform so we don’t judge (harshly).

My closet is probably 5% wear once per week, 10% wear once a month, 30% wear once a year and 55% “I still own that”.

I want those last two groups to see the light of day in the real world, not just on InstaBookChat. I don’t want 5% of us to wear 100% of our closet, I want 100% of us enjoy the 5% of the closet we at some point had to have and/or can’t part with.

So I’m proposing that to be Wednesday.

Tell me it’s another day or spread the word.

Vegan leather for a sewing project

Just bought a stroller with horrible foam handlebar covers. Was hoping to sew over with some water resistant vegan leather to make it more comfortable but I'm a total novice when it comes to buying fabrics. The perfect cotton triangle bralette

I’m in the market for the perfect cotton bralette. I want something with thick fabric and well-made so I can take care of it and keep it for a while. I have m/l boobs and want something that will support me somewhat and the band stays in place (I bought a Hara the Label and the band is too flimsy for me).
