Sustainable V neck undershirt

Hi!

I'm currently looking to buy some sustainable mens V neck undershirt but I'm having trouble finding a brand that seems worthy of my money. I currently live in Australia so it narrows my options a bit.

Preferably I would like GOTS certified organic cotton but can't seem to find anyone who does it within Australia. What is my next best option? I'm thinking it might be Boody but from what I can tell they don't produce there bamboo textile in a closed loop? Or sustainability wise am I better off getting shipped from the US that's been made in Asia?

Sustainable threds? Selling/Donating Clothes?

Kind of a brain dump:

I was thinking even thrifting clothes that have a natural textile; the thred to sew it together may not be? It may be mixed with rayon, polyester and etc... Even the tag says for example 100% cotton. Could the thred have some plastic in them?

And another thing-- most of my clothes have polyester and other stuff that's harmful for the environment. What do I do with them? I don't really want to sell/donate it because people will keep using it and it will shed microplastics. And I can't really afford a microplastic filter. But to be honest I'm still using some of them because I don't have too much of the more sustainable ones. But I'm trying to get more sustainable clothing. Thinking of just paying someone to make me one instead so I know exactly what is used.

I'm a big fan of this subreddit, it has helped me greatly during my journey to making my wardrobe more sustainable.

As the world starts to open up a bit more, I've been focusing on trying to build a post-pandemic capsule kind of wardrobe for work, events, etc. and I wanted to share this brand I really love with you all!

Bond'eye vs Youswim?

Hey yall, anyone know how ethical the Australian brand Bond-Eye is? I found a swimsuit there that looks almost exactly like the bathing suit I've wanted from Youswim for months, but it's more expensive and I can't find any definitive info on their ethics/sustainability beyond what they put on their site. I would prefer to buy from Youswim, but they have repeatedly sold out within hours every time they restock and I'm not even sure if they are discontinuing the color I want... anyway, sometimes it's nice to have (ethical) options. Love to hear any thoughts yall have!

Does anyone know any better options for clothes like rash guards than polyester? I’m trying to find more sustainable clothing that I can use for grappling/MMA, but it’s important that they are stretchy somewhat so fingers don’t get caught as easily when training and they dry easily.

Looking for some super light men's lounge pants.

I am currently on the hunt for some super light, super thin men's lounge pants for the summer months. I had a pair from about eight years ago from American Apparel and they finally died on me, unfortunately.

I'm looking for something probably entirely cotton (zero fleece or warm material), vegan, and as sustainable/ethical as possible. I'd really like something in black, too.

Survey on Influencers and the fashion industry for my uni

Hello!

I am a fashion management student and currently writing my thesis on the topic of Influencer and Community marketing. For this thesis I am also running a survey on people's perception of influencers and how they interact with them and also with brands.

Since I am a fashion student and I also work for a small street wear label my thesis is also heavily focussed on the fashion industry and the beauty industry. The goal in the end is to create a modern influencer marketing strategy that works for small companies and that people are actually interested in.

From my own experience of working with influencers, "sustainable" influencers are often hugely popular and successful so I thought this reddit would be the perfect place to post my survey and get some insight into this field

Is COTTON ON sustainable?

A COTTON ON store recently opened near me, and based on what I have read on their website, I was positively surprised by their sustainability initiatives like using 100% sustainably sourced cotton and transitioning to carbon neutrality (https://cottonon.com/US/doing-good/news/good-goals.html). Since I am not super familiar with the brand, I wonder if this is too good to be true? Should I interpret this as greenwashing like H&M?

Of course, a brand of their size is undoubtably producing fast fashion (and obviously the overconsumption it perpetuates is not great), but I try to take care of my clothes/not buy too much, so I am most interested in verifying sustainability on the production end. Looking to purchase swimsuits and other items that are more difficult to thrift/purchase affordably from slow fashion brands.

Hi all, first time poster here. I just bought a pair of leather sneakers from the brand Saye (https://www.sayebrand.com/) -- they're an environmentally-minded shoe company. Does anyone have any experiences with this brand? I've been reading really mixed reviews about the quality (really should have done this before I ordered them, lol). I love the look and recycled origins of these sneakers, but am a little concerned about the durability/comfort/quality. Durable sneakers that aren’t ugly

The shoes I tend to like are all super flimsy. My main pair atm are Adidas continental 90s and they’ve lasted less than a year before fraying at the back. Before that I had 3 pairs of Nike SBs in a row and they were similar, lasted around a year at most. I’d like to be more sustainable with what I wear but durable shoes like hiking trainers are horribly ugly in my opinion. Very first world problem I know but does anyone have any suggestions for nice ish shoes that last? Cheers!

Survey on Influencer marketing and the fashion industry

Hello!

I am a fashion management student and currently writing my thesis on the topic of Influencer and Community marketing. For this thesis I am also running a survey on people's perception of influencers and how they interact with them and also with brands.

Since I am a fashion student and I also work for a small sustainable street wear label my thesis is also heavily focussed on the fashion industry. The goal in the end is to create a modern influencer marketing strategy that works for small companies and that people are actually interested in. So I thought this reddit would be the perfect place to post my survey.

The survey is in English and will take maybe 5 minutes to answer and will of course be completely anonymous. Sustainable fashion app

hey guys! I'm new to ethical/sustainability fashion and i've been on a lookout for an app that allows me to track my closet and get insights! I have a closet full of clothes, and it does not seem the most sustainable idea to just get rid of it and start an "ethical" closet. Any apps that lets me do that?

I have tried getwardrobe, closet+, cladwell but they are just missing something for me. Not really giving me the data im looking for (eg. cost per wear, how long i have an item, note material composition, closet value etc).

Modest wedding guest dress?

I recently got invited to a Jewish Orthodox wedding. Since it is in a synagogue, I'll need to dress modest (shoulders covered, knees covered, not a lot of chest out). I don't already have a dress that is wedding appropriate to wear, any brand suggestions?

Also, the wedding will be in San Antonio in August, so the lighter the fabric, the better!

[Brand looking for feedback] Does Modular Clothing make sense to you?

Hi! I'm Nancy, one of the cofounders of ellylla. I'm currently designing a multi-functional clothing system. The idea is that the sleeves, bottoms, and more can unzip to give you multiple looks. You can see our base design here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CPoNpvrH4p1/ Though, it doesn't show the different options for sleeves, it's in the works.

Because it's modular it lends itself to being more sustainable as you will need less to do more. We are also using 100% tencel, setting up a buy back program, releasing outfits to rental apps so anyone interested could try before buying, and making sure we are working with workshops with ethical practises. Open to more suggestions but wondering if this concept is something you'd be into?

I did some more ausbrenner (devore) fabric manipulation: with the special acid you can burn away cotton fibers so it works best in mixed fabrics to leave part of the fabric intact. Very suitable for mixed velvets and one of my favorite upcycle diys. Apply with a brush and create a pattern you like.

Etsy buying Depop... Bad news for buying secondhand?

Does anyone else think this is could be a bad sign for secondhand/vintage items being sold on Depop? I remember seeing a post complaining about the direction Etsy went. In particular, that they have allowed lots of drop-shipping and such. This meant far fewer nice, local, and independent sellers on Etsy. I'm now curious what their plans are for Depop.

What is your definition of sustainable fashion?

Hey everyone, I'd like to know what your definition of sustainable fashion is. Is it vegan? Is it long-lasting? Or is it fair? I mean just because something is vegan, it is not necessarily sustainable and just because something uses sustainable resources it is not necessarily fairly produced right? For me, sustainable fashion should combine those three: vegan resources, long-lasting resources and fair working conditions. What does sustainable fashion mean for you?
