The most sustainable fashion
Is not your startup.
It’s not making new clothing.
This sub is all about consumerist nonsense. That’s not sustainable. Reduce and reuse first. Quit buying more things. Quit creating new brands and startups. Where are all the repair posts? The cool thrift finds? The upcycling? All this sub is is posts about yet another brand that’s making new clothing. That’s the problem.

Thoughts on buying fast fashion secondhand?
I think I feel okay about thrifting from brands like Shein or Cider since I'm not directly supporting the company. I really love their clothing styles though, so I've recently bought a couple Cider items off of Depop, and that's kinda where my question comes in. By ordering these clothes from Depop I just feel like I'm creating more waste with the packaging and shipping labels and such.
What are your thoughts on this? Does the whole shipping process sorta cancel out the fact that I'm not directly supporting fast fashion brands? I'm also open to any opinions about secondhand fast fashion--I've just been pondering the topic a lot.

Problems faced by fashion companies without PLM Tech
In a recent report by McKinsey and BoF called State of Fashion 2022, it stated that the industry is facing “a significant challenge with potential shortages of products and resources, as choked supply chains and rising shipping costs undermine operations.” various fashion brands have reported “struggles to manage inventory flows or tied lower sales forecasts to supply-chain blockages.”
So, how is the industry dealing with these problems, well they do it by digitalizing their business with Fashion PLM software. Here are some signs that your fashion brand needs a PLM
- You often find employees repeating the same task
- It takes a long time to find any piece of information
- Your lead times are long and unpredictable
- Your team is buried in compliance management paperwork
- You have no way to track real-time progress
For a more in-depth explanation, please read this article - https://www.worldfashionexchange.com/blog/problems-faced-by-fashion-companies-without-plm/

Creating the fashion YOU want to wear... Part 2
Here we go again for Round 2 of the voting process!
First of all I want to thank everyone who voted on Round 1. Every opinion and feedback helps!
If you are interested in this style, please vote on the design you think should become one of our Launch Pieces. And feel free to share this with everyone you think might like this kind of witchy magickal fashion.
Round 2: Vote C or D (Round 1 is still open, so you can also still go to my earlier post and vote on A or B)
The designs are conceptual, meaning the final dresses will not look exactly like the picture. As every piece is made from second hand fabrics and clothing, prints and shades may vary, but the main color scheme and the silhouette will be as close to the illustration as possible.
The pattern cutting is influenced by traditional Japanese clothing with a zero-waste approach. And if you check out and follow my Instagram at bibitriofficial, you will get to see the process from design to final dress.
If the design you voted on gets made, you have the chance to get an awesome discount on the actual outfit, and you can win a matching accessory.

Reminders why fast fashion is bad: we buy 60% more clothes than in 2000, but each item is kept only half as long, billions of clothes are manufactured each year and over half are thrown away, only 2% of clothing makers earn a living wage. More facts + how to change it.

Eternal Fire Sacred Earth Conscious Clothing
Hey Reddit Family,
I'm writing to you on behalf of an ecologically focused brand my partner and I have just launched; Eternal Fire.
"Intentional Earth conscious clothing made from 100% organic and biodynamic materials, 100% plant based dyes and 100% plant based inks. Nothing in our product contains petrochemicals, synthetics or toxins of any kind. No artificial fertilizers, or cancer causing agents such as glyphosate. They are 100% plant based in their entirety. Truly sustainable, honestly ethical"
Manufacturing is based out of Bali, Indonesia. We've collaborated with small ecologically minded local family run businesses. Distribution, at this stage, will be in Australia only until we gather enough momentum and raise enough awareness about the importance of this product, or indeed the philosophy behind it. If you're outside of Australia, and interested in purchasing, or becoming a stockist, or know anyone who does, please contact us via our website or socials.

Is FOR DAYS legit or Greenwashing?
My greenwashing red flags go up as soon as I see any brand claim to be 100% anything. FOR DAYS says "We make 100% recyclable clothing that never ends up in the landfill" and also " Everything is organic, non-toxic, and can be recycled into new fabric." However cotton degrades when it's mechanically recycled and digging deeper this is clearly evidenced in how their (very small) "re-new" and "re-refresh" collections only contains 12% and 26% recycled cotton. So they're still using a lot of virgin cotton.
Anyone else feel like something with that isn't adding up? Surely they can't be recycling "everything" into new fabric with only a tiny collection of 12-26% recycled content? Or am I missing something?

More sustainable through personalisation?
Hi all! π©πΌπ¨
I've launched a website for users to create custom photo art clothingπ©π€
I am using GOTS certified organic cotton which is fully recyclable. My goal is to create a sustainable alternative not only through materials, but also through personalisation.
My hypothesis: Users will be more likely to keep wearing a product over a long period of time if it has meaning to them. In this case, you can wear your photo memories.
What is your view? Can it work to create a longer product lifespan through personalisation?

Is there anyway to report misleading fashion labeling and advertisements in the US?
Hi all,
Sorry if theres already a post on this. I have been look for natural materials and fibers.
I find many labels and ads very misleading like vegan leather, faux fur, etc. I just want clear labeling on the products or on the title of the product when I search. Is there an entity that receives complaints for misleading consumers in the US?
I dont want to get into any politics on whether vegan leather or authentic leather is more sustainable.

Sustainability x Affordability
Sustainability is important to me, but I cannot find any reasonably priced clothing. I don’t have a lot of money, so spending 80 dollars on a plain tee isn’t feasible. I hate fast fashion, but I’m worried that may be all I can find in my budget. I’ve been to thrift stores, etc., but I can’t find much where I live. hi, I’ve been doing most of my shopping at thrift stores but more recently, I’ve been going to vintage markets to find clothes and I was wondering how you could really tell if an online store is sustainable or not or a fast fashion brand for example, I was looking at a website called Halibuy and i’m hesitant to buy anything because I’m not sure if it’s fast fashion or not how can I be sure? Is the best way to just avoid online shopping?

STAR steps to Responsible Consumption for Fashion Lovers
Hi
Did you include the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 12: responsible consumption and production in your new year resolution?
I come up with this four STAR steps for fashion lovers to start their sustainable journey:
-
choose STYLE, not trend. Start by reviewing your closet regularly to discover your unique style. This will help make purchase decisions by rationality rather than impulse. And styles are forever.
-
TEACH yourself about sustainability: define what sustainability means to you. It could be choosing natural fabric over synthetic fabric. Grow your own knowledge base and refuse to be green washed.
-
ADVOCATE sustainability: talk about it with friends and family, support your community’s sustainability initiatives, plant seeds and develop habits of sustainability. More awareness generates more participation. More participation brings bigger impact.

Survey for Sustainable Fashion Supply Chains
Hi everyone,
I am currently working on my university research on sustainable fashion supply chains and I am looking for people who are involved in fashion supply chains to participate in a short questionnaire as part of my research.
If you are involved in any aspect of fashion supply chains, including manufacturing or brand supply chain manager or even just as a consumer of fashion products, I would greatly appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete my questionnaire.
Your input is crucial to my research and will help me to better understand the current state of sustainability in fashion supply chains.
The questionnaire should only take about 10 minutes to complete and all responses will be kept completely confidential.
If you are interested in participating, please DM me and I will send you a link to the questionnaire.
Thank you in advance for your time and contribution to my research.
Best

Amour Vert Rewards - specific questions how this works
TLDR: 1. When redeeming, why does it ask you if you’re sure? 2. How long is the code good for? 3. Is it specific to the amount you scrolled to (100 pts redeemed vs 400 pts for example)? 4. Can you combine/stack the redemption code with the sitewide sales? 5. Do they work on Final Sale and Pre-Loved pieces? 6. Can you change your birthday after receiving the 1st reward? I just signed up and missed the 100 points with my bday in Dec 7. Do points expire? 8. When did it start? I have a purchase from July that I do not see points for.
Background: I know buying new is already not the most sustainable way. I’ve needed a closet refresh for years (clothes getting small if you know what I mean) and kept it at bay by accepting items from family and friends. But I had issues with their fabrics, colors, and shapes. I also get completely overwhelmed in-person shopping and ThredUp. So I took the plunge with Amour Vert’s Final Sales several times in last 6 months.
This last purchase said I have enough points for the next tier so I finally established the account. Poked around and looked for FAQs to answer these questions but didn’t find anything. Please chime in if you know! Tyia

How environmentally conscious you are when doing Laundry?
Hello, we are team Delavo and we are aiming to draw attention to one of the actions we all perform regardless of what during the week: laundry. Despite doing it every week, however, only a few of us think about how it affects our household's energy or water consumption and impacts our environment. So we prepared an extensive survey with the intends of both gathering data about the laundry preferences of people with different backgrounds to display individuals' awareness and actions on this sensitive matter, and informing participants of this survey about how they can contribute to the environment by changing their unhealthy laundry habits. We would be eternally grateful if you could take your time to fill our survey and help us make a change Survey link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeeTrq5Rte-_aqgvazYmWt_t0_6XtgkrelI9bLf3406mHnt7A/viewform?usp=sf_link

(UK) Where to buy sexy lingerie?
Hi everyone!
It is my girlfriend’s birthday coming up and she and I have agreed it could be a fun treat for me to buy some sexy lingerie for her. That said, I don’t know anything about it. She’s very eco/socially conscious (as am I), and I can imagine this being an industry full of fast fashion practices which I desperately want to avoid. Can anyone recommend some places I should be looking?
I had considered your more typical Ann summers or Victoria secret, but would love some advice! Thank you very much for your help!

For Days Review
Hadn't seen many recent reviews of For Days, so I figured I would write one! Ordered back in the fall.
For Days was advertised to me on Instagram, and I finally bit (curse you algorithm!) and ordered their take bag bag, then later a jumpsuit. I was intrigued by their take-back bag, mainly because I had a lot of clothes I knew I wanted to get rid of, and it seemed like a sustainable way to get rid of clothing versus blindly donating it somewhere.
How the Take Back Bag works - you order the bag, put your stuff in there (one thing that appealed to me is they take any sort of clothes; ripped, stained, linens, whatever), then ship the bag out using their provided label. I paid $20 for my bag, and that $20 is then converted into a credit for their online store.
Service - both the bag and the jumpsuit took a while to get to me. The bag wasn't shipped for weeks, enough that I got jumpy about being scammed and DMed them on Insta to figure out what was going on. They let me know they were busy, and had limited staff so orders would take a while. The jumpsuit took maybe two weeks from when I ordered it to when it was delivered.
Quality - bag is as expected; getting the label was easy enough. The jumpsuit I am disappointed in. The day I got it I liked it; it fit me pretty well and while the fabric didn't feel that nice, it felt solid enough. After one wash though, it felt pretty baggy around my butt (I am not super blessed in that area so it wasn't a me problem) and the straps were already so stretched out despite me never hanging it up. I regret buying it, because now I have another piece of clothing that I don't really want or need. I will keep it for now for lounging in, but it's gone next chance I have to donate clothing. Older reviews I have seen mentioned similar issues, it's a shame they haven't corrected in the meantime.
Price - the bag feels more expensive, but of course you're really buying store credit. Clothes themselves. Original store prices are way overpriced for the quality; sale prices (which it seems like are not uncommon) seem much more fair.
Overall it's a bummer how disappointing it was! I appreciate their philosophy about circular economy but I would much rather keep putting my money in brands like Patagonia for clothing that will actually last.
