Fast-fashion marketing strategies

Hello there, I've been thinking about these questions lately. What's your opinion on them? If you have one ofc

Do you see any influence of marketing strategies when buying clothes?

Which of the best practices that are used by fast-fashion companies you find the most unethical and evil? And which of those are the worst in the way they try to target the average consumer who is unfamiliar with the problems of the fast-fashion industry?

Good brands to get quality fitted long sleeve shirts for women?

Hey everyone.

I’m looking to get a few long sleeves and my normal company that I purchase through doesn’t seem to make them. The closest thing they have is sweaters and I am not looking for that. Does anyone have suggestions for me? Preferably cotton and fitted for petite women

Navigating the Pre-Order Model to tackle inventory challenges

The good part in the fashion industry is we see brands talking about sustainable materials, take-back programs and even re-sale. Despite these efforts, the consumer's shopping behavior is so unpredictable raising the risk of: OVERPRODUCTION; Shouldn’t the first step be to produce less?

As a small business and to tackle this inventory problem, we navigated through the pre-order model – A model where clothes come to life only when someone, somewhere, whispers, "Yes, I want this.

Here are few takeaways we learnt:

  1. Resource Efficiency: A lot more sustainable use of resources since production is aligned with actual demand.
  2. Streamlined Supply Chain: A more streamlined supply chain in terms of lead times and operational efficiency
  3. Strengthen Customer Relationship: Customers became part of the narrative and fostered a more personal connection as we shared updates about their creation.

Calling all fashion brand owners and designers to comment below; Lets initiate a conversation

Sustainable and innovative textiles in the fashion industry

Hi guys! I'm a fashion model who's passionate about sustainable/slow fashion.

Working directly in the fashion industry, I believe I am one of the very first to see a collection/clothing, and sometimes the way it's produced. Not only the materials that many brands use nowadays are harmful to the environment (and consequently to us), but with the surge of fast fashion, they're also not long-lasting and enduring like we hoped.

So, I started to learn more about sustainability and innovations in fashion, and got so curious about it that I eventually created a YouTube channel to share my discoveries and connect with people who are interested in the same thing.

It would help me a lot if you guys could take a look at my channel and help me build a solid sustainable fashion community together ☺️ This is my latest video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtobfxTy5nM&t=19s

And I also wanted to ask: what do you think is one of the biggest challenges to make sustainable fashion more accessible to the population?

What are some benefits of creative arts and the connection with developing a signature fashion style, and how that contributes to being sustainable?

Creative arts have long been recognized for their therapeutic and transformative effects on individuals. Beyond serving as a means of self-expression, these practices contribute significantly to mental health and personal development. One intriguing aspect is the connection between engaging in creative arts, developing a signature style, and how this process contributes to sustainable well-being.

  1. Unlocking Emotional Expression:

Creative arts, including visual arts, music, and writing, provide a safe and expressive outlet for emotions. Art therapy, in particular, offers individuals a non-verbal means to explore and communicate their feelings. By delving into the creative process, individuals can better understand and manage their emotions, fostering emotional resilience.

  1. Identity Formation and Signature Style:

Engaging in creative arts encourages the development of a personal and unique style. As individuals experiment with different mediums and techniques, they begin to discover elements that resonate with their identity. This journey towards a signature style is not just an artistic endeavor; it is a process of self-discovery, helping individuals define and articulate who they are.

  1. Enhancing Cognitive Function:

Participating in creative arts stimulates cognitive functions, including problem-solving and critical thinking. The process of developing a signature style involves making intentional choices, experimenting with various elements, and refining one's approach. This cognitive engagement contributes to mental agility and can be particularly beneficial in addressing challenges in other areas of life.

  1. Stress Reduction and Mindfulness:

Creative arts offer a pathway to mindfulness, allowing individuals to immerse themselves in the present moment. The meditative nature of art creation can reduce stress and anxiety levels. Developing a signature style adds a layer of mindfulness, as individuals become attuned to their artistic choices and preferences, fostering a deeper connection with the creative process.

  1. Fostering Resilience and Adaptability:

The process of honing a signature style requires resilience. Artists often encounter setbacks, creative blocks, and the need for adaptation. These experiences contribute to the development of resilience and adaptability, valuable qualities that extend beyond the artistic realm. This adaptability can be a crucial factor in navigating life's challenges and fostering sustainable well-being.

  1. Community and Connection:

Engaging in creative arts often leads to the formation of communities, whether in art classes, workshops, or online platforms. The exchange of ideas, feedback, and support within these communities enhances the social aspect of well-being. Developing a signature style becomes a shared journey, fostering a sense of belonging and connection.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the benefits of creative arts extend far beyond the canvas or the studio. The process of developing a signature style is a holistic journey that intertwines emotional expression, identity formation, cognitive enhancement, stress reduction, resilience, and community building. By fostering these aspects, individuals not only cultivate sustainable well-being but also contribute to a richer and more interconnected creative landscape. Creative arts, with its therapeutic potential, becomes a powerful tool for self-discovery, resilience, and personal growth, highlighting its importance in the pursuit of a balanced and sustainable life.

cotton-cashmere dress shirts from Banana Republic. How much would they shrink?

Hey guys,

Having to buy some new dress shirts since my previous ones seem to have shrunk or I got bulkier. I ordered some cotton-cashmere dress shirts from Banana Republic to try. I'm worried that it's 15% cashmere. Doesn't this stuff shrink like crazy? I avoid pure cashmere or merino wool sweaters like the plague since they basically become unwearable after 2 washes since they'll shrink 1-2 sizes.

What's your experience with these? I'm hesitant to buy a size up and hope it shrinks to the right size in case it DOESN'T shrink enough. I wish they just made the shirt in the color I like in pure cotton but couldn't find it.

How to stop down from leaking out from your parka?

Hey guys, Have you ever noticed every time that you take off your parka there’s some down stuck inside your clothes or your scarf? I bought a Canada Goose parka and I imagine that every time I put on and takeoff my parka this is going to get less warm. How do you stop this? Is this inevitable? Are you supposed to just end up buying a new parka every five-ten years or so in that case?

Sustainable & Ethical Online Cap Thrift Store: Cheap Cool Caps

Hi. I'm the Chief Cap Dealer at Cheap Cool Caps. Cheap Cool Caps is a sustainable and ethical online thrift store for caps. We are also a social enterprise and we have a unique business model.

www.cheapcoolcaps.com

My personal Reddit profile is: u/KameraSutra

We only source our stock from underdeveloped and developing countries.

I started Cheap Cool Caps as developing and underdeveloped countries have become a dumping ground for secondhand clothing. However, there are limited opportunities, to re-sell and monetize secondhand and vintage clothing in developing and underdeveloped countries.

So we work with local secondhand clothing vendors in developing and underdeveloped countries to re-sell into developed, Western Markets, where vintage and sustainable items are in high demand.

If you have any questions or feedback, just let me know!

T-shirt Material Options

I am looking for Alternative (to plastic) t-shirt materials.

I love merino t-shirts, they don't smell so can be used for a few days, breathable etc but found they wear holes in really easily and considering their cost its not viable fir me.

Linnen would be ideal but its almost impossible to find normal tshirts as opposed to more formal shirts etc.

Cotton - not good when you get warm, sticks after 1 day, doesn't feel so nice to wear. Bamboo is similar.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Careers in fashion that don't involve selling clothing

I'm having a bit of a mid-career crisis and I'm hoping someone here might be able to help. I've been passionate about sustainable fashion since Rana Plaza and have been trying to figure out how to contribute in the best way. I already focus on sustainability for the clothing I personally wear but I want to do something with my job as well. I started brainstorming jobs related to apparel that don't involve selling clothing. I love brands that try to be more sustainable but in the end it's just more product which makes me uncomfortable.

Some ideas I've had so far:

- tailor (alterationist)

- costume designer for film and tv

- clothing rental shops (local to customers rather than shipping across country)

- textile recycling (seems like a hard problem though)

I'm a skilled sewist (hobbyist at the moment) and am getting more into textiles but everything I think of just adds more product to the world.

I know this is a hard question but I thought I'd put it out here in case someone had an idea. Thanks in advance.

Any recommendations for women’s brands that come in dark/jewel tones and work for WFH with the occasional office day?

It seems like so many sustainable brands only come in earth tones and the few that don’t are way too bright for me. I mostly wear black and jewel tones (dark but saturated colors). I’d love some suggestions for any brands people know of with more of this color palette. I’ve dug through Good On You, but you can’t search by color or style really on it.

I also work from home 4 days a week, so I wear a lot of comfy clothes, but I really like texture in my clothes, think different fabrics, the ability to layer, etc. and versatility. I have no problem wearing a velvet dress around the house if it’s comfy.

Buying new sustainable long-lasting new clothes vs. Thrifting

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask your opinion as I coudn't find much information online on this kind of sustainability trade-off.

I need to buy some staple clothes for my wardrobe and I am hesitating what to buy.

On one hand, I'd like to buy second hand but most of the time there is always a catch (fit isn't great, style is outdated, minor defects, etc). Oftentimes I end up not wearing it much.

On the other, I could buy highstreet brands but at least I can choose the style, quality and tend to keep these 5+ years.

1) What is the truly sustainable choice here?

I know there are other options but these are the main ones available for me at the moment.

2) How do you decide what to shop and from where? (ex. running shoes only new from reputable sports brands, etc.).

Thanks!

Sign petitions for a better fashion industry ⭐

Hi,

I didn't spot any threads about this, but I'm also a Reddit noob so if I missed it, feel free to ignore this.

I wanted to share some of the ongoing petitions I'm aware of that focus on bettering the fashion industry, and I hope that someone will read up on the issues, sign & share on your socials to spread the word.

⭐Push Levi's to sign The Accord. https://actions.eko.org/a/levi-s?eko

⭐ Poke Adidas to pay their workers. https://www.payyourworkers.org/action

⭐Speak Volumes against Waste Colonialism. https://stopwastecolonialism.org/speak-volumes/

⭐Extended Producer Responsibility against Waste Colonialism. https://stopwastecolonialism.org/

Feel free to add others in the comments below if you are aware of other petitions or campaigns running at the moment.

Marketing Hurdles for SME Sustainable Brands: Does Certification Help?

It's a tough scene for sustainability-focused SMEs trying to make their mark in a space cluttered with deceptive green claims.

For those of you managing or marketing a small or medium-sized sustainable brand, I'm keen to know – what are the major marketing challenges you're grappling with? how do you effectively communicate your genuine commitment to sustainability and stand out? Does obtaining sustainable certifications made noticeable improve in your marketing reach or customer trust ?

Clothing brands that are made to last?

Fast fashion sucks. Not only for the impact it has on the environment, but just the idea of cheaply made garbage that gets worn maybe three times before it falls apart at the seams is so infuriating to me. Humans shouldn’t have to replace their wardrobe every year.

I already thrift most of my clothes and repair holes when I can — but some things are just utterly unsalvageable.

I want to be smart about the things I buy going forwards. How best can I do this?

What is the best sustainable streetwear manufacturers?

I have a new beverage company with a very cool branding and would like to start selling some merch based on streetwear.

I am mostly looking for vintage/acid washed t-shirts, crewnecks and hoodies to start.

Ideally, it would be eco-friendly, since my business model is based on eco-friendly products.

I also want my custom tags on the shirts, and want to order custom packaging.

Do you have some recommendations? Alibaba? If so, which seller? Is it better to stay away from China?

I want to have great quality and low MOQ if possible.

Thanks for your help!

WAYWT Sustainable Edition

The workweek has started. Show off your sustainable Monday fit.

Share a bit about why your fit is sustainable.

This is a judgment-free zone. We all know sustainability in fashion is nuanced and complicated, so don't sweat it. For example, your polyester shirt may not be "eco-friendly" but if you've had it a long time, wear it a lot, and plan to keep it a long time then it's about as sustainable as you can get simply by how your wear it.

Let's celebrate the different approaches people and brands take to address our common goal.

Buying Online VS Buying In-Store

Hey so I just had the thought, is it really that much better to buy clothes from stores in real life rather than online. Like, either way the clothes are shipped from the distribution centre to either the retailer or just to your house.

Wait wouldn't that make online clothes shopping more sustainable? You're cutting out the need to transport the garment from the shop to your house... Someone inform me I don't like bein stupid.

How Do Small to Medium-Sized Sustainable Brands Keep It Real?

It was disheartening to see genuine players like Tonlรฉ closing. Their closure back in June really highlighted the struggle for the little guys in a world full of greenwashing giants.

So for you small sustainable brand owners and teams out there, what's the biggest challenge you're facing today? How do you maintain your integrity while ensuring your brand doesn't get lost in the noise?

Really interested to hear your perspective on this
