does anyone know of any brands that sell ACTUALLY 100 PERCENT cotton tank tops/ shirts or do i need to learn how to sew?!?!
hello all. I am having a really hard time finding more than 2 brands that sell cami tank tops that are both 100% cotton (NOT 95% cotton and 5% spandex) cami tank tops. I have found fair indigo, and under the canopy, both very pricey. I have found a few other options that fall under 100% cotton but they aren’t organic cotton and if i’m going to buy something brand new i’m buying organic cotton. when I buy second hand i don’t worry too much about it being organic as it’s already probably been washed hundreds of times. but I can’t find any second hand options for cotton tank tops online. HELP!!!!!
edit- 100% ORGANIC COTTON

Share a bit about why your fit is sustainable.
This is a judgment-free zone. We all know sustainability in fashion is nuanced and complicated, so don't sweat it. For example, your polyester shirt may not be "eco-friendly" but if you've had it a long time, wear it a lot, and plan to keep it a long time then it's about as sustainable as you can get simply by how your wear it.
Let's celebrate the different approaches people and brands take to address our common goal.

sustainable fashion
Hey everyone! 👋
I’m working on an autoethnographic project exploring sustainable fashion, and I'm curious to learn more about how different people are approaching it in their everyday lives. I know there are a lot of ways to dive into sustainable fashion—whether it’s thrifting, supporting eco-friendly brands, upcycling, or focusing on minimalism and quality over quantity.
For me, I've been trying to mix and match secondhand finds with staples from sustainable brands. But I still feel there’s so much to learn, especially when it comes to finding brands that are genuinely ethical or learning new ways to upcycle clothes.
So, here are a few questions for everyone:
What’s your go-to approach to sustainable fashion? Do you have any favorite brands or resources for eco-friendly shopping? What tips or hacks have helped you make your wardrobe more sustainable? Have you found any challenges in transitioning to a more sustainable closet? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Let’s help each other make our wardrobes a little greener. 🌍👕💚

Weight Fluctuations and What To Do With Old Clothes That Don't Fit Anymore?
So I have a pretty big collection of clothes due to me having to purchase new clothes as I was going through weight fluctuations. I am 10 lbs away from my goal weight but I am already a size small and don't see me going down to an extra small by then. My dilemma is that I have soooo many clothes of every size that I don't know what to do with them🙃 The goodwill near me isn't accepting anymore donations and I don't have another thrift shop near me. What else can I do with these clothes?

Any sustainability problems with salvage and up-cycled fabrics I should take into account? For those who make some of their own clothing, what do you look for when buying fabric?
I do a lot of thrifting, and one thing I’m always on the look out for is vintage scrap fabric. I love to take old odds and ends and try out different patterns. I don’t do a ton of up-cycling on existing clothing (mostly just fittings and repair) But I will disassemble totally unusable garments for the material. Mostly I’m after old bedsheets, and the odd bundles of scrap fabric. I’m by no means a professional seamstress, and my stuff isn’t perfect, but I like to wear it.
Are there any sustainability issues I should be taking into account that I’m not? I feel like this is a decent way of getting ‘new’ clothing. Hell, even the buttons are salvaged from vintage shops. Micro plastics are a concern, but I kinda feel like there’s less I can really do about those (though perhaps I just don’t perfectly understand how they work)
I prefer to work with cotton and synthetic cotton blends. I’ve tried satins and honestly I really hated sewing with it, but I’m determined to use up what I bought.
For those of you who do a lot of up-cycle or diy what kind of stuff do you go for? What kind of projects do you like to make? Does fabric type make a big difference to you?

Organic Cotton vs Regular Cotton What's the difference?
Okay, so what’s the deal with organic cotton? Is it really that much better than regular cotton? Here are some quick facts:
No Nasty Chemicals: Organic cotton skips all the pesticides and synthetic stuff. Regular cotton? Not so much.
Less Water Needed: Organic cotton uses way less water – better for the planet, right?
Healthier Soil: Organic farming helps keep the soil healthy, while conventional farming can wear it out.
Gentler on Skin: If you’ve got sensitive skin, organic cotton is usually the safer bet.
Anyone else switched to organic cotton? What do you think?

Fast Fashion vs. Slow Fashion: 5 Easy Ways to Spot the Difference 🌿
Curious about how to tell fast fashion from slow fashion? Here are some quick tips:
Material: Fast fashion uses synthetics (polyester), while slow fashion uses natural fibers (cotton, wool).
Production: Fast fashion is mass-produced; slow fashion values craftsmanship.
Price: Fast fashion is cheap but short-lived. Slow fashion costs more but lasts longer.
Trends: Fast fashion is trend-based, slow fashion is timeless.
Transparency: Slow fashion brands are open about their ethics and processes.
Have you noticed these differences in your wardrobe?

Affordable Organic, Sustainable, or Non Toxic Clothing (Plus Size Friendly)
Hey hey! I’m looking for actual affordable cheap brands to purchase clothing that is actually good for your body. Everything I keep find is $65 for a shirt or $110 for pants. Tencel/Organic Cotton/Spandex Blend or 100% Organic Cotton
Hi Everyone -
My daughter and I co-founded a sustainable fashion brand in 2012, and we'd love to get feedback from the community.
We have two options for our upcoming jogger and sweater collection:
- 100% Organic Cotton French Terry—Soft, durable, and completely biodegradable, except for the elastic band on the waist.
- 67% Tencel™Lyocell 28% Organic Cotton 5% Spandex—This Is slightly more durable and softer, but it also contains 5% spandex, which makes it somewhat less eco-friendly. However, the spandex would be 30% bio-based Creora, a slight improvement over 100% synthetic.
The feel and drape of Tencel is more similar to those of a synthetic polyester or nylon jogger. Tencel is less water absorbent, so if used for jogging or sweaty workouts, it would be more moisture-wicking.
Organic Cotton is great for everything except high-intensity workouts, as it can absorb some moisture. However, using 100% organic cotton is more sustainable than the Tencel blend with 5% spandex.
What does the community say? Go for the softer slightly more durable Tencel blend with spandex or the 100% organic cotton?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Why do sustainable clothing brands only offer simple designs?!
The fashion industry is in terrible shape when it comes to sustainability and ethical values, primarily due to fast fashion. I’m someone who values knowing how my clothes are made and where they come from, because I don’t want to contribute to the incredibly polluting fashion industry.
Currently, I buy all my clothing second-hand, but I would also like to invest in pieces from sustainable and ethically responsible clothing brands. Online, I read that many people hesitate to switch to sustainable clothing because they find it very expensive. This is also a barrier for me, but what really holds me back is the lack of alternative styles.
All the sustainable brands I’ve come across so far describe their designs as “timeless” and “classic.” I completely understand that this is related to combating overconsumption and not following micro-trends. They choose these designs because they won’t go out of style, so the customer won’t think after one season “This is no longer in; I’ll get rid of it” (which is certainly not sustainable).
However, I feel that this excludes a whole demographic. People who don’t want to look “timeless and classic” but have an alternative style, can’t participate in the sustainable clothing movement. I believe it’s crucial that there’s something for everyone, so that anyone can make a more sustainable choice if they wanted to.
That’s why I’d like to start my own sustainable clothing brand, but I wonder if there’s enough demand for it.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this. And if you know of any sustainable clothing brands that offer more alternative styles, I would love to hear about them!
I would also greatly appreciate it if you could take the time to fill out my survey. Your help would mean the world <3

Taking on a more sustainable approach to clothing and being judged for it by my family.
I've recently started to put a lot more thought into my clothing purchases, and it’s left me feeling conflicted. For context, I live comfortably enough and have a stable job that I love. I don't have any children. Over the past half a year, I’ve become more conscious of the impact of fast fashion and have shifted towards a “less is more” approach. I’m more interested in buying sustainable, high-quality, long-lasting pieces rather than cheap, fast-fashion items that wear out quickly. I keep researching the general impact, sustainable companies, and each item of clothing that I want to buy individually.
However, I’ve noticed that my mindset is clashing with the way I was raised. Growing up, my family prioritized affordability, and they feel that it's unnecessary to pay more when cheap alternatives exist. My parents don't have a higher education, and for their entire lives, both of them have been working more physical jobs while earning a minimal salary.
I don’t shop very often anymore and only buy things I’ve researched thoroughly and know what I need, I’d love and use for a long time. But I can’t help feeling guilty, especially when family members express their disapproval. On the one hand, I want to stick to my values of sustainability and quality, but on the other hand, I wonder if I’m being reckless or wasteful in their eyes. For some context, winter is coming and I thought it would be a great idea to do some research on sweaters and find the one I'd love to buy. I wanted to ask my mom for her opinion to see which sweater she thinks looks the best, but what I received from her was, "I could never buy a sweater for this price. Only people who don’t know what to do with their money could buy things like this, or they're just stupid". I'm mindful of my purchases, and I'm not going for ultra-luxury items, but I still felt attacked, like I was doing something wrong.
Is it wrong of me to spend more on sustainable and high-quality items when my family views it as wasteful? I'm still quite new to all of this and I'm trying to learn more about sustainable fashion. I feel as though my parents and I are quite different people now, even though I was raised with their values.

Hi all!
Bringing this one back! A while ago, I created a post asking for your sustainable fashion hot takes and we had some really good thoughts and opinions! In the spirit of keeping them coming:
I'm currently responsible for our company's social media content and wanted to compile a few hot takes about sustainable fashion and your overall stance on sustainability in fashion. As a little side note because it has come up in the past, this is not market research. I just like hearing people's takes and opinions and reflecting on them, and if I can use it as content that spreads awareness to a broader audience, then that's even better :)
Please share them in the comments below, anything that falls into this category goes. Green-washing, fast-fashion and sustainability, sustainability in luxury fashion, second-hand shopping... We've had some amazing input from people who make clothes themselves, and we're interested in everyone's and anyone's opinion on this!
Go wild, be respectful, discuss if you wish, I'm just really curious to see what people who are into fashion think! :)

If I’m allergic to wool, what would happen should I put those sustainable wool balls in my dryer?
Not a very serious post, because they make hemp alternatives. I’m just generally curious. I received a few wool dryer balls for free as part of a company’s promotion. Then donated them on because I’m badly allergic to wool. I break out in the most awful red hives. Better safe than sorry and all that.
But for anyone who does use them, is it actually possible to react to leftover wool fibers on other garments? I’d think they’d ‘shed’ partials.
And while we’re on the subject does it actually make a substantial difference to use dryer sheets at all? I don’t usually dry with them, and I notice very little difference if any at all. Especially when washing blankets/comforters. They’re supposed to be so bad for the environment, and I really don’t think I’m getting much benefit from them.

WAYWT Sustainable Edition
The workweek has started. Show off your sustainable Monday fit.
Let's celebrate the different approaches people and brands take to address our common goal.

linen clothing manufacturers
Hi,
I’m currently looking for small-scale linen clothing manufacturers who specialize in eco-friendly and sustainable production. Our brand is focused on producing high-quality linen garments with low MOQ (under 20 pieces per model) in any country. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations or tips for finding suppliers that meet these criteria.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Plant-based eater dilemma – buying and wearing wool?
I’m fed up of fast fashion and I want to start investing in some good quality pieces that’ll last me a really long time. The issue is that I am plant-based – deliberately haven’t used the term “vegan” but it is primarily for ethical reasons, though also environmental. I know the wool industry isn’t exactly ethical but what’s my alternative for knitwear? But isn’t it better to have a few good quality pieces made with wool than buying and wearing synthetic fibre knitwear? Will try and buy secondhand as much as possible of course.

How Sustainable Cotton Yarns are Produced
As the textile industry moves towards more sustainable practices, many are curious about how sustainable cotton yarns are produced and why they matter. In my latest blog post, I delve into the processes and innovations that make sustainable cotton yarns a vital part of eco-friendly textiles.
Key Insights from the Blog:

Has anyone tried Circular Fashion LA?
I recently started a new office job and have to wear business clothes to work for the first time. With my new schedule, I also don’t have a lot of time to shop for clothes in person or online. I did some research and found Circular Fashion LA has a thrift-based subscription box. Based on their website, it seems like a ethical and truly circular fashion company but I can’t find any reviews online. Is it green washing? Has anyone tried it?

How Can I Spot Sustainable Clothing Brands?
I’ve been trying my best to be eco-conscious, especially when it comes to fashion. I've always love thrifting and supporting brands that genuinely care about reducing their carbon footprint. But nowadays with so many firms claiming to be sustainable, I'm not sure who is legit anymore. I was researching online and also found a cool article that outlined how to recognize sustainable companies. But I'd love some personal tips, tbh. What do you look for to spot the real deal? Any brands you trust? Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

What is the most sustainable material for shoe soles ?
I have read that petroleum-based materials on the soles of shoes create microplastics when worn down. With that in mind, what are the best realistic materials to use to protect your feet from the ground ?

Greenwashing vs actual sustainability - how to tell?
Hi! I've been thinking lately that I want to start talking about sustainability on my socials and make some content related to that. I wanna make sure I do proper research before ever promoting a product (if I ever chose to do so) but find it complicated to navigate when there is so much greenwashing. What are your go to's when doing research on a product and what are some red/green flags in your opinion?
Thanks so much!
