Slow fashion influencers worth following on Instagram?

I'm looking for any suggestions for fashion influencers on Instagram who buy and style clothes from a combination of secondhand shops and sustainable companies and big name companies that sell clothing made from natural materials. A example would be buying a cotton sweater from Target.

Making it last longes - protecting the gilded/plated parts of a handbag

My last handbag lasted almost 10 years.. So I bought a new one but I did not realise that the plated/gilded parts were so prominent on the bag. How can I protect those parts from being worn out? I know that the quality is there in the leather to last me a long time and avoid consumption but I am worried about the plated parts. Any suggestions?

Buying fast fashion, but wearing it to death

What is your stance on buying from a fast fashion brand, say Zara or Gap, but keeping a small wardrobe and wearing the articles over many years until they need replacing? This is in an effort to dress well, for cheap, without over consuming.

100% cotton long sleeve tops

hi!!

i’ve been slowly trying to swap out my clothes with polyester & other synthetic fibers for cotton for a couple months now.

it’s getting colder and i have a couple long sleeve mock neck tops that i love and wear all the time but would prefer to find cotton alternatives for. i’ve found some that are 95% cotton with elastane or other materials for stretch but my goal would be 100% cotton since i’m okay with them not being stretchy!

i was wondering if anyone knows any sustainable brands that have winter shirts/sweaters in either 100% cotton or has an elastane/other material for stretch that’s plant based that i could consider?

(bonus points if you know of any leggings of the same material that could withstand a hot yoga class)

thanks in advance!!

Would You Wear Hemp? Reimagining Fashion with Sustainability in Mind

Hey whats up everyone!

I’m working on a passion project that combines sustainable street wear with the insane potential of hemp. My goal is to create a brand that not only uses hemp fabrics but also actively contributes to restoring the environment—things like beach cleanups, reforestation efforts, coral restorations etc.

Hemp has so many benefits:
Absorbs more CO2 than most plants.
Uses significantly less water than cotton.
Fully biodegradable and highly durable.

But here’s where I’d love your input:

  • What features or designs would make you choose a hemp garment?
  • What do you think is missing in the sustainable fashion space right now?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas—it’s a collaborative journey, and I’m excited to bring this to life! 🙏

Need advice on Fiancee's growing channel on DIY Fashion !

Hey Reddit!

My fiancé runs a YouTube channel focused on creating DIY outfits from scratch, designing clothes, makeup tutorials, and hair & skin care. She’s super passionate about promoting sustainability in fashion and is on a mission to reduce waste by upcycling clothes and creating beautiful, functional outfits from old or discarded fabrics.

She recently hit her first milestone of 1k subscribers with over 450 watch hours, and I couldn’t be prouder of her efforts! However, as she’s still in the early stages of growing her channel, we’d really appreciate some guidance from this community.

Some of her videos are in Hindi as she’s based in India, but she keeps her content approachable for a diverse audience.

What We’d Love to Know: • Editing/Thumbnails: What makes a good thumbnail or video editing style for DIY and fashion content? Any tips for making them pop? • YouTube Algorithm: How can she optimize her videos to reach her target audience? Are there any specific strategies or tools you’d recommend? • Video Ideas: Which famous outfits or styles would you like to see recreated sustainably? It’d be fun to turn it into a challenge! • Content Feedback: If you have time to check out her channel, we’d appreciate feedback on how the content could be improved to better engage viewers.

We’re not trying to promote her channel directly—this is purely about seeking advice to help her grow and improve. Your insights, ideas, or even just a few minutes of your time to share your thoughts would mean the world to her!

Thanks a ton in advance!

Where can I find stylish women's work clothes made from natural fibers in Canada?

I'm on the hunt for high quality, work appropriate women's clothes made from natural fibers (e.g., cotton, linen, wool) that I can buy in Canada, either online or in stores. I’m looking for stores that primarily or only carry clothes made of these materials. Searching through materials on each item in major retailers is proving futile. There’s so much polyester!

Cozy Tights and Leggings?

I’ve been having a really difficult time trying to find tights and leggings that aren’t blended with polyamides or elastane. Even when I go on sites selling merino wool tights, they’re usually 60% wool mixed with some synthetic fabrics.

I wonder if having elastane in the blend is just the nature of tights? Thoughts, and also any recommendations for where to get cozy winter tights for cold winters? 🥺

Growing a Sustainable Mushroom Hat with Vegan Leather

Hi everyone,

I’m exploring the use of mushroom mycelium to create a sustainable and biodegradable leather for fashion projects. My ultimate goal is to craft a unique flat cap entirely grown from mushrooms—combining functionality with a bit of fungal flair! 🍄

Right now, I’m experimenting with growing mycelium sheets and would love insights from this community on how to treat and preserve alternative fabrics. Specifically, I’m looking for ways to:

  • Seal the material while keeping it flexible and wearable.
  • Enhance durability without compromising sustainability.
  • Apply sustainable techniques or approaches that align with this project.

If anyone has experience working with alternative or unconventional fabrics—whether it’s plant-based leather, biodegradable textiles, or other innovative materials—I’d love to hear your advice or thoughts.

I’m fascinated by the intersection of sustainability and creativity, and I think mycelium-based fabrics could offer something unique to the world of fashion. Let’s grow the future together! 🌱✨

Looking forward to your ideas and suggestions!

Share a bit about why your fit is sustainable.

This is a judgment-free zone. We all know sustainability in fashion is nuanced and complicated, so don't sweat it. For example, your polyester shirt may not be "eco-friendly" but if you've had it a long time, wear it a lot, and plan to keep it a long time then it's about as sustainable as you can get simply by how your wear it.

Let's celebrate the different approaches people and brands take to address our common goal.

Can a fashion brand actually be sustainable or is it just marketing?

The fashion industry is the second largest polluter of clean water globally, a cotton t-shirt takes 2700L of water to make, textile waste from both industry and consumers are destroying parts of the world and hurting wildlife. There’s also microplastics, shady practices, fast fashion culture that has burned into our society.

The Uniqlo Airism shirt costs $14.90. How? How does the labor, resources, and land for growing the cotton, the production process (raw cotton to yarn, yarn to fabric, undyed fabric to dyed fabric, the pattern maker and cutter, patterns to seamstress), and the labor + resources for logistics, cost $6 or less in total?

Here’s the thing, these staggering facts are caused by the big corporations like Zara, H&M, Nike, Adidas, Uniqlo, Shein, etc. not small or medium sized brands.

You could say opening a sustainable brand provides options for people who do care about sustainability, and there is a rise in awareness amongst people. But even with the rise of sustainable options, the numbers don’t lie. Consumers value cheap prices over sustainability any day.

Clothing inherently shouldn’t be “affordable” because of how much resources and labor it takes. A garment should be made and kept for a lifetime.

It’s an oversaturated industry, but it’s oversaturated for a reason. Even with inflation and recession, the fashion industry is never going to fade away.

There is enough clothing to cloth 8 billion people’s next 6 generations of descendants today. Whether or not the clothing are of good quality to even reach the 2nd generation is another topic worth discussing.

Leather bags

Hi everyone, I'm curious to see how you feel about leather bags. On one hand leather is natural and durable but linked to unethical practices, on the other hand vegan leather is almost all plastic right now which has its own environmental problems. If given a choice, what would you choose? I know you can also get canvas or something like that, but I'm talking of a case when you want to get a leather bag. P.S. - I'm building my brand at @biophi.life and while I know what I want for clothes, I feel split on bags. I hate animal cruelty but day and night it's climate change that's on my mind way more.

advice

i desperately need new clothes, i only have one outfit i feel comfortable in. the only coat i have is starting to fall apart and the dress i wear most of the time has a strap that was broken and sewed back up wrong, i've had it for two years atp. i have tried second hand fashion online (like vinted) and everything i get ends up being too big or too small or just really unflattering (im a little above average size and transfemme, neither of which help at all). i was going to go to some second hand shops but for the few i could find online the prices are just too much and i can't travel to a city where they have a decent selection just to find out that everything is too expensive. idk what to do. is it wrong if i buy a few outfits from fast fashion that will last me another couple years? if it still is, what else can i do? where can i find nice looking clothes that suit me, second hand and on a budget? any suggestions/advice is appreciated :)

Brands for Second Hand Wool Sweaters

Hello everyone 👋!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend brands that sell high-quality fine merino/wool sweaters. I'm planning to buy some secondhand through the site "Vinted," and I’d love to hear your suggestions about which brands to look out for. ❤️ (I'm Europe-based if that makes a difference.)

I know of Uniqlo—although they’re definitely not a sustainable brand—but they do sell 100% wool sweaters. Most pieces I own from them are really long-lasting

I don’t want to be too picky, but I’m explicitly not looking for chunky knit pieces—I already have enough of those. I’m specifically after fine wool layering piece

Some wool-mix sweaters are also fine, especially if the synthetic material helps the garment hold its shape better.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Non-synthetic, plant-based formal boots, and durable. Do they exists?

Yeah yeah leather second hand whatever. I've never found 2nd hand shoes that fit me anyway and most of the time theyre scrudfy enough to be an old Disney movie vagabond costume.

Are non-synthetic plant shoes a thing? Mainly for formal settings like office work environments so durability isn't too huge a problem. And definitely no need for waterproofing so that PFAS-free is achievable.

Do such items exist? Ideally within Europe so free returns are more likely for me.

Vintage vs New Jeans

Lately I've been delving into the world of fabric types, and I've really started taking into consideration the things I buy and what they're made out of. I even went as far as to separate my clothes into synthetic, blended, and fully natural fabrics (mostly cotton, a couple rayon)

Since then, I've taken it upon myself to start buying only 100% natural and non-plastic fabrics, but after doing some research I've learned that modern cotton products are not only lower quality than they were in the past, but pose some sustainability issues.

Are there any current manufacturers that make jeans out of high quality 100% cotton? Particularly something I could find in a department store. Or, should I take a risk and start buying jeans on ebay? I mean I guess I could go to thrift stores, but that's a lot less reliable.

What do you do for washing wool/cashmere?

Dry cleaning is terrible for the environment but it seems that these natural fingers need dry cleaning. I'm looking into getting a wool coat; whenever I get new clothes, I wash them immediately. I feel awful dry cleaning because of how bad it is for the environment. Is there a way to get around this?

Recs for alternatives for Adidas slides

I use some Adidas slides as my house shoes and I'm happy with them. I've had them for a few years now and they're reaching the end of their life cycle.

I've been trying to find some sort of similar alternative that's not just plastic / eva foam and I'm really struggling. Even when I do find a fabric slide, for example, it's almost always a eva foam sole.

I did find these https://www.dearfoams.com/planet-a.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqU64z1Un9MowWd6Lw4UhutXIhrCgpeFEaixp_UrmRVTuUxkMyn with their "REGNR8 technology" which supposedly causes the plastic to break down faster and not become microplastics? But I can't seem to find any scientific review on this technology and their claims are rather vague, so I'm doubtful of it.

So anyway, any recommendations?

My main criteria is: • open toe • some cushion • some antislip

Vegan Shoes (that weren’t made by slaves!?)

I am looking for vegan shoes, preferably US made but not made by slaves or in sweat shops. This has been very tough. I have found some dress shoes but what about boots or more basic shoes.

I always used to buy Vans, Tom’s, Redwings and Dr Martens.

Any suggestions/ recommendations?

WAYWT Sustainable Edition

The workweek has started. Show off your sustainable Monday fit.

Ethical Women's Fashion Poshmark Show! 🌱 Looking for Suggestions & Support

Hi everyone! 💚

I'm pretty new to hosting Poshmark shows and excited to be curating one focused on women's clothing from ethical and sustainable brands! As someone who's still learning about ethical fashion myself, I'd love to make this a collaborative experience.

Show link🔗: https://posh.mk/otFZDoIWqOb

About the show: - Women's clothing only this time - Featuring ethical/sustainable brands - Pre-loved pieces at accessible prices - Perfect for both seasoned ethical shoppers and those just starting their sustainable fashion journey

I know of brands like Patagonia, Eileen Fisher, and Reformation, but I'm eager to learn more! Would love: - Your suggestions for other ethical brands to include or specific items - Specific pieces you're hoping to find - Your favorite ethical brands I should know about that I can try to find on Posh - Any requests for particular types of items

New to Poshmark? I'd be happy to share my referral code - you'll get $10 to spend when you sign up and another $10 after your first order is delivered! Just comment or DM me for the code. 🎁

I'm still learning both about Poshmark selling/hosting and about ethical fashion. I appreciate your patience and support as we make sustainable fashion more accessible together! 🌿

P.S. If you have any ethical brand pieces listed on Posh that you'd like considered for the show, feel free to let me know! 💫

Looking for sustainable sports brands

Currently on the lookout for sports brands that are sustainable. I’ve been using Patagonia and Allbirds for years now, but I’m also willing to explore others. I researched online and found a few more brands like Tentree, Outdoor Afro, etc. But I’m not sure how great their items are. Have any of you tried products from these brands or others that prioritize sustainability? Please feel free to share your experience!

Who are your favorite sustainable influencers with sophisticated style?

Hi all! I’ve just started a new sustainable fashion marketplace, Sensibly, focusing on sophisticated style and work wear. I am trying to market it and go beyond the typical google ads, meta ads, etc. I am also a small micro influencer and have had luck promoting brands in the past and have reached out to a few friends but am trying to find other small influencers in the space with whom to collaborate. Do you have anyone you’d be able to suggest? Who do you enjoy following?

Thanks so much!

Looking for stories about Sustainable Fashion brands

I've created an online magazine and I'm looking for more stories on Sustainable fashion, materials and production. I would be particularly interested in anyone who is upcycling clothing, using/reselling deadstock and working with vintage designer wear. But open to all forms of sustainable fashion. If you are a small business, or know of one, that would be amazing.

The idea is to make sustainable fashion the norm and make it more accessible for the masses. I won't add a link to the magazine as I don't think that is allowed. But please comment and I'll check back in during the week and we can take it from there.

All sets are $30 and have free shipping with the code ship24. The bikinis are exceptionally quality for the price and the shipping times are insanely fast as it is operated from Australia. What do you think about hemp for sustainability in sports apparel?

Always expected the sports industry to stay one step ahead, but was completely taken aback by the rise of hemp in sportswear. I had no idea hemp was being used to replace traditional materials like cotton and synthetics in activewear to be more sustainable. It seems pretty legit and useful for athletes and the environment, ngl. But what about real-world usage and experiences? Has anyone here tried hemp-based sports gear before? How does it compare in terms of comfort, durability, and performance? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Seeking Interview Participants for a Study on Sustainable Fashion Choices

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m a master’s research student here in New Zealand, studying sustainable fashion and consumer behavior. I’m conducting a study to understand why people choose sustainable, slow fashion brands, and I’m looking to interview individuals who have an interest in eco-friendly or slow fashion here in NZ.

What’s Involved?
I’ll be conducting short, one-on-one interviews around 45 minutes via Team Meetingto discuss your thoughts and experiences with sustainable fashion. Your insights will be valuable in helping us understand what drives people to choose brands that prioritize the planet!

Brands We’re Looking at
Some of the brands in focus include New Zealand-based companies like Kowtow, Maggie Marilyn, and Twenty-Seven Names. If you’re familiar with these or other slow fashion brands, I’d especially love to hear from you!

Who Can Participate?
If you’re based in New Zealand and have an interest in sustainable/slow fashion or have chosen to support eco-friendly brands, you’d be perfect for this study! No specific experience is required – I’m just looking for honest insights and experiences.

What’s in it for You?
In addition to supporting research that can help guide more sustainable practices, I’m happy to offer a [gift card/discount code/other incentive, if applicable] as a thank-you for your time.

How to Sign Up:
Please send me a DM or comment below if you're interested, and I’ll get back to you to schedule a time that works for you!

Thank you so much for considering participating and helping to make a difference in sustainable fashion here in NZ! 🌍💚

UK startup building a new marketing category called Sustainability-Pegged Rewards. Seeking feedback.

Hi everyone,

We’ve recently launched a browser extension for google chrome and we’d love some feedback from a community such as this, if there are those among you U.K. based.

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/treea-extension/ljacijhkobihcamhfdkoegknejlmnmfm

Treea works a bit like cashback. When you shop with brands through our platform, we receive a commission from them and share a significant portion with you.

What’s unique is that our rates are tied to the sustainability scores of brands we feature.

By shopping with brands that are reducing their carbon footprint, you save more the greener they become.

We’re hoping this model could change the way the world thinks about sustainability, by linking it with our natural pursuit of value.

We’re live with a multitude of brands across Fashion and Health & Beauty, including Decathlon, Superdry, Estée Lauder, Boots, Hoka and many other big names who see the potential in the model.

For now, our rewards methodology is built on a central question:

Are brands reducing their carbon footprint, or not?

We’re interested in how actual emissions are tracking relative to targets, how complete the data reported really is and how companies are ranking against one another on the road to net zero.

It would be fantastic to speak with as many of you as possible to get your thoughts and feedback on what we’ve built thus far.

Thanks

Can sustainable fashion be more than slow?

Does sustainable fashion have to be slow fashion? Why can't companies use eco friendly alternatives for fabrics (like khadi) that is proven to be sustainable? It does not need to be either slow or fast fashion. Excited to know how we can redefine sustainable fashion.

buying stock/unused, out of season clothes?

hello everyone. in my country, there's a thing that we call stock clothes. i don’t know exactly how it works but from what i know, unsold, unused, out of season clothes, that may or may not have a flaw, somehow end up here being sold for a very cheap price compared to the original one.

i don't know how the sellers get ahold of them ngl, do the stores sell them for a negligible price? do they steal clothes before the stores destroy them? i have no idea

I barely know any brands in general and most of the time, the sellers don’t mention what they are, you can know if there's a tag, i guess. they mention the store when it’s a 'famous' and a bit pricey one like h&m and zara. yes my country is that poor that h&m and zara are not affordable. forgot to mention but there is only one piece available just like in thrift stores

anyway i'm trying to be sustainable as much as i can and I’m considering looking into them cause they’re a lot more available online than used/thrifted clothes and i can't shop physically atm. what do you guys think?

What Do You Wish Linen Clothing Brands Would Do Differently?

Hi everyone! I'm on the path to creating my own collection of high-quality linen clothing and would love to understand your needs better. Could you share what bothers you most about the linen clothing currently available on the market? What do you feel is lacking in design or functionality, and what features would you like to see in new collections? Is there something that would convince you to buy linen dresses from a new brand, something that other brands are not yet offering? Your insights would greatly help me create better products. Thank you for your time and thoughts!
