Introduction of our slow fashion & sustainable brand :)

Hello!

I am Sandra, the founder of Oroz & Co. A new sustainable, slow fashion and vegan brand born between Spain and London over the pandemic.

We mindfully design and handcraft our sneaker corn based collection in Elda, Spain. And we recently launched a travel bag collection made with the same bio and recycled materials, specially designed for photography amateurs!

Website: www.orozandco.com
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/orozandco

I would love you too have a look to our products and let me know in the comments or via DM what you think about them. As a new brand just starting it would really help me out to know all your opinions.

Im also happy to answer any questions you might have about the brand or the products.

Best wishes and many thanks!

research - would you use an app to sell clothes online, for only sustainable brands?

Hi guys -

I am an UX student developing a feature for an app! And I wanted to do some research.

Do you buy/sell 2nd hand clothes online? How? What is missing from that process?

Would you use an app where you can only sell/buy things from ethical brands (from instance, that have a high raking on good on you - https://goodonyou.eco/)???

Thank you!

Keeping track of the brands you love

I’ve got quite a long list of smaller, sustainable brands that I love and keeping track of them has become quite difficult. I don’t want to follow them all on social media, but I do like to keep track of when they release new collections. How do you guys manage this? Is there some online tool that I can use? Do you create separate social media accounts for this? Or perhaps a second email?

Let’s discuss in the comments!!

ethical sustainable swimwear

hi angels

if you're interested in new small sustainable businesses check out www.bbcierva.com. or click the link for the insta reel & you will see some of the collection - https://www.instagram.com/p/CS1uWhRi8ka/

Introduction: BBcierva is a eco swimwear brand that uses ECONYL, a recycled nylon from discarded fishing nets.

The story: I started BBcierva in 2020 after realising most swimwear companies outsource their labour & factories to countries with cheaper costs and labour and do not use sustainable materials. I looked around and couldn’t find a brand that resonated with me that was made locally ,eco friendly and affordable so I created BBcierva. BB was inspired by a multitude of influences. Common themes that support bb are sustainability, nature, spirituality, space and science.

The collections feature designs that are hand crafted for the perfect fit, and colours that will inspire positivity. Each bikini is handmade by me in the UK and each season captures a theme of colours, that relate to specific ideas. The first season features shades of blue and were named after the the lost city/continent of Atlantis, Lemuria and the flying island Laputa.

Sustainability πŸ’§πŸŒ

8 million tonnes of waste are discarded in our oceans & 640 thousand tons of fishing nets are abandoned at the bottom of the ocean EVERY YEAR.

BBcierva is committed to working with high end recycled fabrics made from ECONYL: a 100% regenerated nylon yarn derived from discarded fishing nets and other textile waste. This fabric can be recycled infinitely without losing quality, supporting a circular fashion industry. Using regenerated nylon also helps to clean the seas where entanglement in abandoned nets causes the deaths of many thousands of whales, dolphins and other marine life every year.

Packaging:

BB is also dedicated to recycled and biodegradable packaging. Each step of packaging the bikinis has been carefully chosen to ensure sustainability. More details are on the website if you wish to look further.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!! <3

Sustainable bras?

I'm having a really hard time finding sustainable bras that have underwire/padding in them and is just a regular old bra.

Most of the brands I'm seeing on the Good on You app are all bralettes or some strange lingerie. Like I just need a regular bra for me to wear to my office job where my nipples can't show through my shirt.

I know of a lot of sustainable underwear/intimate brands but again, their bras are bralettes and basically offer no support or padding or they only make underwear and no bras.

Does anyone have any brands they recommend? I'd prefer US or Canada brands as I am in the US. Thank you!

sustainable fashion thesis

Hi all, i was hoping i could get any tips on this assignment of mine, i want to graduate soo badly😩😩😩😩🀒

But okay, currently i am writing my thesis. the topic is sustaiable fashion. my chosen problem is the fast that many retailers destroy unsalable goods and hiding this from consumers. which may or may not be the cause of the high consumption rates of today's society. So i proposed a potential solution of making it mandatory for retailers to disclore their practices with goods that could not be sold, just like yearly, in their annual reports i.e. So my thesis is focussing on finding out if this disclosure would steer the consumer into a more sustainable consumption of fashion and if it would change their attitude towards sustainable fashion. It is a requirement to do some form of applied research. I chose to interview 12-15 respondents. These will be Dutch fast fashion shoppers (as the focus will be on Dutch people). But from here on, i do not know how to continue. How i could find out if auch a disclosure could change people... I have chosen the ABC attitude model in my literature review, and basically this theory has to be the foundation of my research. And i am just not sure if i have chosen the right theory and if i did, i dont know how to use it..

im sorry of its a lot but omg, this thesis is giving me the chills😩😩

i really tried to work hard on this, but im just stuck for weeks already and this is the final thing before graduating, so i was hoping to get any inspiration from here❤️ thanks in advance

Easiest brands to find second hand?

I shop almost entirely secondhand but recently have wanted to take the extra step to invest in my second hand pieces.

I’m based in Canada and am looking primarily on Poshmark

I have also tried to shop by material type (I love finding secondhand linen and modal) but it’s not easy to do.

What are some of the easiest sustainable brands to find second hand?

Love my new sustainable shoes!

https://preview.redd.it/mxpvvcu8s4i71.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34373cb17e30215c99a7ac37f9a25f637a40242d

They are made in Spain/Portuagal (really important to me as I want to support European production over cheap labour and bad working conditions) from Italian materials. A great addition to my European-made shoe collection (I have heels from the same company and winter boots from Sweden).

Funnily enough I was actually eyeing a pair of shoes from a large sneaker company that cost 150€ and when I came across these my first reaction was "they're too expensive". Like, compared to what though? The cheap pair found at the back of a supermarket? Maybe. But why was I literally ready to buy a more expensive, less sustainable shoe for no other reason than "I know they won't hurt my feet"???

It takes courage to break from bad habits. These companies don't have the same advertising budget as Nike, Adidas or Puma. They can't be tried on in every shoe store. It takes a leap of faith to try a new sustainable brand not at the least because money doesn't grow on trees and it's always such a pity when a product doesn't work out (I always feel so bad for all the materials gone to waste). But I'm so glad I took the chance on these and I hope they last me a long, long time.

Hi guys! Me and my partner is developing our idea and plan for our own small sustainable brand. We have the exclusive sources of those natural fabrics from plants. And yes! It’s zero-waste! We also will be using 100% natural dye from local plants. Do you guys think this is a good idea to start? Petpeeve: when an item is linen or cotton, but the lining is polyester

This happens all too frequently. I see a skirt/dress/whatever that is made of a natural, breezy material that would be perfect for the summer...

And the inner lining is shiny, polyester.

Completely defeating the purpose of the garment.

sustainable bras with underwire and padding?

searching the web, so far I've only found one brand (Nico) that seems both sustainable and offers bras with underwire and good padding, but it's hard to tell how thickly they're lined without trying them on. Any others you know of?

Edit - (Araks has underwire but the photos of their products when off the model look completely see through, and I'm not a fan of the big horizontal line all the way across in case that showed through clothes)

what’s your response to “there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism”?

how do you respond to folks who say “there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism” in regards to you encouraging people to choose more sustainably and take individual responsibility for the crisis (as well as holding governments and corporations responsible)? whenever i talk about boycotting amazon or choosing to be climate neutral by paying off your carbon emissions people call me preformative and that our individual actions don’t matter because it’s all the governments fault. obviously 1% of the population causes like 50% of global emissions but i don’t think individual actions is really that futile! i think choices we make in our every day life improve the quality of the earth but people just blame it on capitalism as an excuse not to take individual responsibility

MA Dissertation on sustainability topic- help me by filling out my survey

Hi everyone. If you could complete my survey for me on vegan leathers I would appreciate it so much. I'm looking into sustainable options like plant-based leathers. The more survey responses I receive the more insightful my dissertation will be. Its anonymous and shouldn't take longer than 5/10 minutes. Thank you

A little puffer coat into scarf action. Worn the coat for years, did not really feel myself in it anymore. I changed it into this easy accessoire with avant-garde styling options, basically getting out the back panel and closing the edges again. Still have fabric left to make a puffer bum bag soon.

Clothing from Bamboo

If cultivated under the correct conditions, bamboo may be a highly sustainable crop. While the majority of bamboo textiles on the market are a type of rayon with a labour-intensive production method that uses hazardous chemicals, recent years have seen an improvement in how these chemicals are controlled, which is a positive step in the right direction. Bamboo textiles are a step up from polyester and traditional cotton. So as long as the company is upfront about its origins, it is definitely a safe choice as a more environmentally friendly alternative.

Here are some pieces you can check out from Upciclo, an online marketplace for sustainable and eco-friendly products.

Maggie’s Organics

I’m sorry if this is a re-post cause I’m new here and I couldn’t see it mentioned with a search!

I wanted to let folks know about Maggie’s Organics in case it’s new to anyone. It’s based in the USA and all of their products are both organic and fair trade. As in, ethically made, in case anyone’s not sure! They made their reputation largely on socks, but now they offer really nice basics for those looking to create a capsule wardrobe, etc. So maybe that’s why it’s not on this group’s radar so much.

But yeah, just wanted to share in case that’s helpful!

Sustainable shoes like Demonias?

So I just recently (about 2 weeks ago) made the choice to start shopping more sustainably. I’ve had some shoes from the brand Demonias in my shopping basket for a while but never purchased them because I had to save up. And well, now that I’ve made the choice to change my shopping habits, I just can’t bring myself to buy them knowing that they aren’t sustainable or even entirely ethical either. So, does anyone know of any sustainable brands that sell similar shoes to Demonias? Chuncky, big platformz and in different colours like black, red, green etc.

I feel like there might not be any brands out there πŸ˜‚

Thanks

Sustainable, Ethical Clothing Brand

Amazing reddit users,

HELP US MAKE A DIFFERENCE

https://www.neramstreet.com/clothing

My girlfriend and I create a sustainable clothing brand during the begin of the Covid pandemic, after months of idea generation, supply acquisition and more, we are finally live selling our first product line: Denim Handbags! These bags are 95% sustainable and eliminate 2 lbs. of material waste that would have otherwise ended up in landfills. As these bags are sold, new and re-designed bags will go live. The goal of our company is to grow large enough so that we can combat the current fast fashion conglomerates who have driven the fashion industry to be the worlds 2nd most polluting industry. We started with handbags and denim when we learned large brands such as LV, Gucci and Hermes burn their unsold bags to keep scarcity. The process to manufacture denim is also a very harmful and wasteful process. Thats a little backstory to our reason and our passions. I hope you enjoy what we have to offer.

love for Eileen Fisher

I feel like Eileen Fisher was always a brand for my mom, and I never really considered their clothing. Partly that's because they are pricy. But their fabrics are really amazing quality and their commitment to sustainability across the entire supply chain is really a role model for others to follow. I just discovered eileenfisherrenew.com which is their recycled/used site for resale. Lots of stuff is reasonably priced, and I'm more into a lot of the tops than I thought I would be.

Sustainable sneakers with arch support?

Hello! I need new everyday walking shoes/sneakers (joggers in the UK, I think?). I overpronate a decent amount, so in the past I've always bought Saucony Omni Walkers (a new pair about every two years). My current pair is falling apart and I could buy another, but I'd really like to get something made of more sustainable materials. Any suggestions for a sustainable (women's) sneaker with arch support? Thanks for any advice!

Recommend me brands!

Hi all! I got really into sustainable fashion a few years back and used to know a ton of different brands. However, I basically took the last year and a half off of shopping. Because of COVID, there wasn’t much need to buy clothes (not that there is ever really “need”). Now life is inching back towards normal and I am taking inventory in my closet to see what I’m on the market for. I’m still planning to incorporate the lessons I’ve learned from this past year - not buying just to buy, being mindful of what I purchase - but I am on the hunt for great brands to support that fit my style and ethics. I honestly either can’t remember many brands, no longer identify much with them anymore, or in my research, have discovered they are not as ethically or sustainably minded as I once thought they were.

Here are some general styles I normally enjoy - bohemian, 60s or 70s inspired, cottage core, colorful, outdoorsy, western. I’m open to lots of different avenues, but I will say that I’m not super into the clean, minimal, monochromatic style that’s super popular in sustainable fashion (love it on other people, but I don’t like it for myself). I feel like most if not all of the brands I am finding are geared toward that style.

Thought this would be a great place to ask away! Give me your recs!

Sustainable headwear?

I'm really just looking for hats. I keep my hair really short and gotta protect my scalp from the sun, but the overwhelming majority of hats seem like they're not meant to last for more than a year or two. I recently discovered Melin hats, which seem pretty great, but there's little-to-no information on their site about sustainability and they're pretty expensive, so I haven't bought one. Plastic snapbacks that get sweaty, itchy, and gross are not appealing, but that's most of what I see. Even Patagonia's hats seem that way.

Sexy Sustainable Clothing Brands?

I've noticed that it's quite difficult to find 'sexy' sustainable clothing brands -- a lot of what is out there (that is also affordable) are mostly basics and relatively conservative clothings styles (I mainly shop at Everlane and Kotn). While I appreciate how affordable (for sustainable and ethical fashion brands) they are, I want to also boost my closet a little bit with more revealing and youthful clothing styles that are high quality but also sustainably and ethically sourced and produced.

I really love Reformation and try to buy them used online on Poshmark/Depop and such; however, oftentimes, they are too pricey for me.

I was wondering if y'all had some good experiences with any other brands that you may introduce me so I can support slow, sustainable fashion that also tailors to my style a little bit more than the basics I buy from Everlane and Kotn.
