Hey anyone know where I can find clothing mock ups!
There are so many ways to think about building a more sustainable wardrobe– I'm curious what you all prioritize when it comes to participating in fashion sustainably.
A few considerations that come to mind for me when considering a clothing purchase:
What other considerations come to mind for you? What do you prioritize when it comes to building a sustainable wardrobe?
[Humble request if you're interested in this topic, not intended to spam this space] I'm so passionate about durable, expressive clothing that can keep up with life's various adventures that I'm beginning the journey of starting a sustainable clothing line. If you happen to have 10-minutes to share your input to inform my product design direction, I'd be so eternally grateful. There's also a nice perk offered for completing the questionnaire here. Thank you for considering! π ❤️
A recurring thread for talking about things related to sustainable fashion. Be nice.
Hi I’m writing an article for a fashion magazine and I’m looking to speak to people who have recently given up or cut down on their fast fashion consumption.
The piece is exploring how the quiet luxury trend (think Succession, Gwyneth Paltrow, well made understated garments) might impact fast fashion. The quiet luxury trend doesn't seem to be going away so I’m looking at whether this shift towards prioritising well made, timeless pieces could accelerate the decline of the fast fashion industry. Earlier this year, it was reported that Asos' shares fell 78 per cent last year, while Boohoo fell 70 per cent and Shein has reportedly been valued at tens of billions below its $100bn peak.
I'd love to speak to consumers who have stopped buying so much fast fashion in favour of a buy less, buy better mindset that prioritises high quality clothes over fleeting trends. Please DM me or email sophlwilson2@gmail.com if you’d be up for answering a few questions. Thank you, Sophie x
Hey all!
I'm doing a research on fashion's hedonistic communication and how it affects us, consumers. Rather sounding quite complex, hedonistic approach really is OUR culture's engine... Or is it?

Asked to sephora if their powder is refillable! It's not and it's recyclable either... disappointing :( make up producers have to start considering the importance of creating products that we can either reuse multiple times (such as powder containers) or at least ensure these can be recycled.
This is not a satisfactory reply from them:
"Unfortunately the site doesn't mention anything about the recycling part of this product. I would recommend using your best judgement. As of other products yes, we offer refills in some lipsticks and fragrances from what I can recall"

This is a judgment-free zone. We all know sustainability in fashion is nuanced and complicated, so don't sweat it. For example, your polyester shirt may not be "eco-friendly" but if you've had it a long time, wear it a lot, and plan to keep it a long time then it's about as sustainable as you can get simply by how your wear it.
Let's celebrate the different approaches people and brands take to address our common goal.
Hello! For work, I wear a plain tshirt and jeans everyday. I bought 5 'a new day' tshirts from target just over a year ago. Except for one that's a high neck (which annoys me, I prefer a lower neck) all of them don't look very presentable anymore.
When I first moved to my new job, I couldn't bring any of my old wardrobe with me. So I ended up buying a lot of fast fashion to replenish it all in one go.
I'd like to change that, I'm stretching out the life of everything I have as much as possible and trying to find long-lasting, hopefully ethically made pieces within my budget when adding a new piece to my closet.
Do you have any recommendations for high quality tshirts that will last long? I'll be slowly phasing out the target tshirts anyways, but maybe something under $40?
On Instagram, I saw a post of a boutique-looking clothing brand saying things like "I will buy a new outfit for every concert and you can't tell me otherwise". I commented about how fast fashion isn't sustainable in hopes that they become aware and educate themselves. Or not and get flagged as not being eco-friendly.
What do you think about this course of action? I've never gotten involved with taking action for/against businesses but this post really rubbed me the wrong way.

It seems like Earth Day is being hijacked and turned into another consumerist holiday. Tons of brands are having Earth Day sales or selling special Earth Day products. Greenwashing? What do you think?

Hi Community, I hope the admin accepts this post
I started my small athleisure wear buisness about two years ago and though we did not use eco-friendly fabrics from the start, we have since about a year, stop the use of virgin fabrics and more geared towards sustainable options including recycled cotton.
It has not been easy ( and still not). We are currently looking for writers or anyone willing to spare some time to help us continue to educate our customers and the community at large in the fitness and Activewear industry.
Thanks.
To all people living in Switzerland / Germany / Austria...

Sustainable fashion means designed, manufactured & consumed in an environmental friendly manner. Clothes made up of second-hand clothing or material which we call upcycle/recycle. It is a way to create clothes that reduces the impact on the environment.
I have a sustainable clothing company focused on ocean conservancy called Sunken Paradise (sunken paradise.com). We are looking for a wholesale supplier that offers relatively inexpensive sustainable streetwear, such as the heavyweight, relaxed fit t-shirt from LA Apparel that I've attached. Looking for high quality. Also, looking for eco-friendly cabana/beach shirts to add to our collection. If anyone could help with either of these searches, I'd be incredibly grateful. Having a tough time finding suppliers for our next collection!
Because the most sustainable clothing is what already exists, show off your thrifted pieces here!

hi all - I’ve been buying sustainable for a little over 12 months now. Been basically a no buy this entire time (I think I bought one dress that’s it) but as a result I think I’ve developed analysis paralysis around spending - I’m finding it impossible to commit to buying anything, even though I’ve saved the money and it’s items I actually need. (Specifically, shoes. Most my shoes are trashed and replacing is reaching critical point)
So was wondering what peoples parameters are around spending and what you look for to commit? I feel silly asking this but it feels like there is so many decisions to make it’s so hard for me to choose something to buy and where to put my money. Especially with shoes which I most likely will need to get new as I have big feet lol.
Sorry if this seems kind of silly!? I guess im just wondering if anyone else feels this way/has thoughts on becoming a clothing commitment-phobe.
Please feel free to post as many surveys as you'd like in this thread. This post will repeat every week on Tuesdays at 8 am CST.
I think in the sustainable community we often think "organic or bust", but this highlights how cotton that isn't necessarily certified organic can be sustainable, using "old time" practices.
Also, I love how this is creating jobs for farmers in Haiti, a country that desperately needs jobs.

Hi peeps, I'm conducting a user research for my case study purpose which is on Sustainable Lifestyle Brand. In the research purpose I want to ask you two open ended question. Please Help me with my case study by answering the question. Thank you.
What are the issues do you face while searching and buying for sustainable products online?
And what do you take into consideration before buying a sustainable product?
Repost as I made a rookie mistake by not proofreading the survey, its now been updated. Apologies!
I'm just after some feedback for a group assessment for university regarding sustainable fashion with an emphasis on consumer culture.

Hi All, I'm trying to harness the power of Reddit to make the World a better place. Every month we all take a small action decided by upvotes. The hope is by the multiplying our small action by the many people of reddit we can have a real impact.
Sometimes it can feel like your well intentioned actions don't make a difference, hopefully r/BeTheChange will be a place where we can see that the little things we do can have a big impact.
I'm tired of feeling helpless. Let's change that together!
Starting with first action on 1st June 2023.
I use to be a dress/skirt person, but after taking a job that requires a fair amount of time in a workshop, I switched to pants. I try to buy sustainable brands using natural materials (cotton, linen, hemp, sustainable denim, etc) but find pants are lasting me one year max before needing mending. The patches make it slightly untenable to wear them to work because I have pretty regular partner meetings, etc, where I need to look presentable and can't have mended holes on my crotch and butt (haha). I never had to deal with this issue when wearing mostly skirts, and I find the thrifted stuff I've bought that has polyesters in it just seems to last way longer. It was definitely nice during the pandemic because partner meetings were online so my mended pants didn't matter, but more meetings are going back to in-person now. Given the cost of sustainable brands, this is a bit hard on my bank account too, not to mention just annoying to be buying new pants every year.
Is there a solution here? What should I be looking for in sustainable work pants that will make the cost worth it? Is there a perspective I'm missing?

I really enjoyed writing this article from a technical industry perspective.
My thoughts?
Before we had greenwashing, we had "pseudo luxury", like Calvin Klein - flashy campaigns, and celebrity partnerships that convinced us high price tags were wroth it, when in reality, the product was no better than a 6 pack of Hanes.
I also break down the difference between real luxury and real ready-to-wear if you are interested.

I used to buy women’s cotton crew socks in large packs at Walmart/Target but they are no longer available at any major retailer like this anymore. They are all polyester and synthetic material now. Prefer solid colors like black, grey, and white with no visible logos. Occasionally I can find cotton socks that are white with grey on the heel/toe but I’m looking for solid colored. The best I’ve found are from Los Angeles apparel but they’re pretty expensive at $8 a pair.
Edit: I don’t know where to post this so it’s going in sustainable fashion I guess.

Hello! I am a strong advocate for sustainable clothing or upcycled clothing however, I am in college at the moment and I do not have a lot of cash. I am in Australia for my studies, does anyone know of clothing brands that can offer me clothes for my almost broke budget? Thrift stores here are terrible and I don’t have the time in between assignments to go. Thanks!
I’d say the price point would be $20-30 per item.
I ordered the cotton Jersey t Shirt dress from them which at first I thought was a great item until I checked the label and it’s 52% polyester 48% cotton when the website calls it 100% cotton jersey.
I never buy polyester garments anymore and I’m so angry as it’s past the return window and I’ve worn it, and I’ve left a good review I can’t amend, so my only option is to post everywhere I can to warn others. What a disappointment!
I recently launched an eco-friendly fashion brand, and I'm trying to grow our Instagram account to reach more potential customers. We post regularly, share behind-the-scenes stories, and engage with the sustainable fashion community. However, the growth has been slow.
Any advice on how I can increase our following and improve our online presence?
I am shopping for a dress for my cousin’s wedding this june, and my budget is $150. I need some recommendations for affordable dress shops!!! I know places like revolve, express, and cider, but my conscience is telling me that those are all definitely fast fashion brands. Pls help!! I want to be a sustainable shopper :)
Anyone have any info on a relatively consistent source of factory rejected plain apparel? I co-own a small business (unrelated to fashion) and want to have a small apparel line of screen printed/hand-mended upcycles instead of ordering new materials. Ideally they’d be on mostly blank/solid color garments so as not to compete with our brand logo and content.
I’m not sure where to start looking at all (I’m in the US). If anyone has any suggestions I’d love to hear them!
Thanks π₯°
Good day to all. I'll keep it short!
I reside in North America and I need suggestions for sustainable clothing options for work - Casual to semi formal. My current wardrobe is small and mostly will be replaced by the sustainable ones. I love brands like Patagonia but cannot afford to buy everything from it, although I plan to buy couple of tshirts and jackets from Patagonia.
Please suggest a few sustainable brands for workwear as well as lounge wear for someone who can spend decent amount on few items but not all items.

For years influencers have been kicking and screaming about slowing down fast fashion and "de-growth". And, the truth is, they haven't made much progress.
While it all sounds like a great idea, if you actually understand how the fashion industry operates from a manufacturing level, you can understand why that is basically impossible.
I created this article to help explain why high MOQs are necessary for many clothing factories - and to share a few slow fashion alternatives...
