Ethically Handmade, Authentically Sustainable

What we wear should feel good not just look good. Ethically handmade clothing brings together thoughtful craftsmanship, sustainable choices, and styles made with care.

Choosing quality pieces supporting responsible production and wearing clothes that last are small steps toward a more mindful wardrobe.

What matters most to you when choosing sustainable clothing the materials the craftsmanship or the ethical production process?

Trying to switch to sustainable alt fashion, which brands are genuinely ethical?

I am into alternative fashion, but most brands in this space do not seem to talk much about ethics yet. The few that mention sustainability tend to keep things pretty vague. I care most about fair labor practices and how clothes are actually made, although packaging and other environmental factors matter too.

Does anyone know of ethical alternative clothing brands whose manufacturing claims are backed by independent certifications or other external verification?

where are people buying those stupidly realistic plastic flies?

need a bunch for a prank display and apparently fake flies range from obviously rubber toy to “why is that on my food” realistic. ive found insect novelty manufacturers on alibaba and some close-up photos are almost too convincing, but i only need maybe a few packs, not factory order. anyone bought good ones online? size matters because giant fly stops being believable instantly. matte finish seems better than shiny plastic too. im not doing anything harmful with them, just decoration and gag use. if youve used them for halloween or props, did they photograph realistically? most marketplace reviews weirdly dont include actual scale next to a hand.

[Academic] Footwear Habits & Consumer Preferences Survey (All Welcome)

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m working on a project exploring footwear habits and consumer preferences, and I’d love to hear your opinions!

The survey takes around 3–4 minutes and covers shoe-buying habits, favourite styles, pricing, comfort, and sustainability.

Whether you buy shoes regularly or only occasionally, all perspectives are welcome. There are no right or wrong answers, and your input would really help us with our research.

🔗 Take the survey here:

How do different brands work with artisan knitting communities?

We work with a women’s cooperative in the Peruvian Andes for our hand-knitted alpaca knitwear, and it’s made us curious about how other brands approach artisan production.

In our case, the knitters work from home, with a local coordinator helping distribute yarn and organise the work. It’s an interesting model because it allows the women to fit knitting around their daily routines, while each piece still requires time, skill and attention to detail.

We’re curious about how this works elsewhere, particularly for brands selling handmade knitwear or other artisan-made clothing. Do some brands work directly with individual makers, while others partner with cooperatives, workshops or local organisations? How do they manage production timelines, fair payment and consistency without losing the handmade quality?
