How do you find good quality clothes these days?
Over the last year and a half, I got to a point where I could afford more expensive things, including clothes. I always looked at brands like Prada and Gucci as something I wanted to own. But after buying some luxury items, I was disappointed.
I started looking for less branded clothes made with good quality and only natural materials. It was harder than I expected, I guess smaller brands are difficult to find because they don't spend much on marketing.
My method is to google very specific things. For example, a brown coat, fabric type and GSM, search through Google Images, check brands that look interesting, read reviews, and check the return policy before placing my first order.
It takes time, but it's worth it (in my opinion). I'm much happier with the clothes I'm finding now.
Has anyone else gone through something similar? How do you find good quality clothes today, especially with so many brands lowering their quality?
These are some brands I love: Lemaire, Toteme, MaxMara, Bradic, Another Tomorrow,Margaret Howell.

Winter Clothing Question
Hi! I am moving to NYC (from southern california... bigggg weather change lol) and I am trying to research ways to stay warm and dry and windproof myself using clothing with natural fabrics. Also trying to do this with somewhat of a budget - I'm aware natural materials (especially warm ones) are more expensive so I am somewhat flexible but would prefer nothing well over $300 (open to vintage of course!)
Does anyone know of good options / a good layering system (ex. wool base layer, top that with "x jacket" ) I can use for warmth and waterproofing and wind resistance? Thank you so much!

Is it possible to slut it up in natural fiber clothes?
I'm in the process of moving away from fast fashion and plastic clothing, but I'm really struggling with the clash between my personal style and what's available. I wear a lot of clubwear, glitter, sequins, rhinestones and crop tops/miniskirts ect, but that market seems to be... Not very targeted by most of the sustainable brands I'm aware of. Does anyone know the sustainable version of "two postage stamps and some string" for me?

Looking for actual GOTS certified intimates
I am reading that an item that uses GOTS-certified cotton or is from a GOTS-certified brand does not necessarily mean the item is actually a GOTS-certified product... I am having SO much trouble finding intimates that are GOTS-certified items.
I would prefer to not pay an arm and a leg for an item and I am in the US, if anyone has any suggestions that are able to ship to me.

where you guys find wholesale jewelry thats properly vegan/cruelty free?
| Trying to find some fashion jewelry for a small collection but i want suppliers thats clear about materials...no leather, shell or random animal materials hidden somewhere in details. ive been checking jewelry suppliers on Alibaba too and theres loads of stainless steel, brass and acrylic options which seems fine, but im not sure what people normally ask supplier if they wanna call the finished line vegan. is there some certification for this or mostly checking every material, glue and coating yourself? also any wholesale sites where you can filter for vegan/cruelty free jewelry instead of opening every product one by one? how you guys normally verify this before putting it in product description? |

Don’t want to pay heavy prices for polyester
Everything, literally everything I see on brands is polyester and 95% of times it’s 100% polyester. I do not want to spend a lot of money just to get polyester.
I was wondering if I should get cloths from a thrift store or from someone who’s trying to get rid of their wardrobe. Even if it’s polyester it’s gonna give same already existing cloths a new life and price will be significantly lower than what I’m getting at H&M or ZARA or Mango.
I think already existing used cloths should be used first before getting more.
If it’s not polyester that’s excellent. How do I figure out blend at a thrift store? Most of the times it doesn’t look polyester but is polyester.

Ethical fashion vs sustainable fashion
I think these terms get used interchangeably a lot, but they focus on two different things. Ethical fashion is about the people making our clothes, including fair pay, safe working conditions and transparency about who made them. Sustainable fashion looks more at the environmental side, like fabric choices, dyes, waste and how long a garment lasts.
A brand can use natural materials and still treat workers unfairly, just as a brand can pay workers fairly while relying on materials with a high environmental impact. Ideally, we should look at both, along with how transparent a brand is about its suppliers and production methods. And honestly, wearing what we already own for longer is a good place to start too.

Where do you buy your clothes now?
Hi,
I’m a man, but it can apply to anyone, but where do you purchase your clothes now?
As I see, even Banana Republic (not factory) is using a lot of polyester and I thought Uniqlo was better in using 99% cotton, but it looks like their new products have more polyester.
I’m in Canada and I have no idea where to buy clothes made of mostly natural fabrics.
Thanks

Cashmere- so fragile!
I got gifted this lovely cashmere scarf from Muji, but after only a few months it’s developed a massive hole- about to rip in 2! The yarn itself is so thin that it can be tugged apart with barely any force. The fibres are so short, so it doesn’t have much structure. Is there anything I can do with this scarf? It’s merino and cashmere if I remember correctly, not really wearable but can it be recycled or upcycled at all?

what are the best sustainable alternative fashion brands for women? trying to decide
I am trying to be more intentional about where I buy alternative clothing. I have got a shortlist of brands with some kind of sustainability focus, but they all approach it differently.
Jaded London has some strong designs and a clear visual identity though it is bigger operation and the quality reviews seem mixed. Forest Ink has been around since 2009 and doesn’t mass-produce, which appeals to me for different reasons. Disturbia has a well established alt identity and mentions ethical production, but i have not looked too deeply into the specifics.
has anyone tried these brands or found other alternatives worth checking out?

Would you pay more for clothing if you knew it would last 5–10 years?
Personally, I’d rather spend more on a few well-made pieces than keep replacing cheaper clothes every year.
If a jacket, trousers or even a good shirt could genuinely hold its shape, colour and quality for 5–10 years, I think paying a premium makes sense.
The difficult part is knowing which brands are actually selling better quality and which are simply charging more for the label.
Would you pay ₹15k–₹20k for one piece that lasts years, or buy several cheaper alternatives instead?

Best sustainable alternative gothic clothing brand where you can feel the quality difference?
There are so many brands calling themselves sustainable in the alternative space right now, but honestly, a lot of them don’t feel any different from fast fashion once you actually get the clothes. The tag says ethical, but the fabric feels the same and the stitching starts pilling after three wears.
I’m looking for alternative clothing brands where the quality is actually better. Not just ethically made, but something you can feel when you hold it. Better fabrics, more thoughtful construction, stuff that feels like it’s built to last.
Does that actually exist in the goth/alt space?

Workout leggings from physical stores?
Hey all, looking for suggestions of ethical & sustainable options for workout leggings that are available in physical stores in Europe or the US. Looking for a fabric that's nice and sturdy so it will stay opaque during squats and not immediately get destroyed by thigh chafing. With pockets. Bike shorts length if they're shorts, 7/8 or "short" sizing available if they're full length because I'm not tall :)
My go-to used to be Patagonia's Maipo tights and shorts, but (a) some horrible customer service experiences and (b) my most recent purchases seeming to be of lower quality make me want to try other options when my next few pairs give out. I find it difficult to discover new brands using resources like goodonyou since very few of the ones listed are available in physical retail stores. And almost no sustainable brands have any presence in my country, so gotta be something that I can try on and buy in-person next time that I'm in a better-supplied country.
Thank you!

Help w Band Tee
So I have a band tee- baseball sweater with black sleeves, white front and red print (death).
I received it with this mud or mold (or oil) spray along the sides (skateboarding is the only thing i can think of) and made a huge mistake of leaving it outside in a bag- condensation I do think might have caused the mold ? Truly not sure but seems to have been there the whole time - and decided to do a vinegar soak in case of it actually being mold. I was stupid and left it longer that 24 hours and the red ink bleed into the white shirt. So now i have a possible mold stain, and definitely a pinkish top. Is there anything to do to salvage this back to a white shirt and also remove the stains? Help!

I built a small tool to test if a fashion trend actually suits your style- would love brutal feedback
Hey! I've been working on a concept called Aura. The idea came from a personal experience: I was about to spend €50 on denim shorts just because they were trending, even though I knew deep down they weren't really my style.
So I built a simple tool that asks you a few questions about your style and then tells you whether a trend you're considering actually fits you- or if you're just being swept up by the hype.
It's very rough right now, just a form that sends you an email analysis. No app, no fancy UI. But I'd love to know if the analysis feels useful or generic.
Takes 2 minutes: tally.so/r/xXG7eG
Honest feedback only, I'd rather hear what doesn't work than get compliments.

Ordered a Rapanui T-shirt, received Earth Positive twice — has anyone else experienced this?
I ordered Rapanui’s Organic Cotton T-shirt for a long-term experiment I’m running comparing white T-shirts through wash and wear. What arrived was a T-shirt labelled Earth Positive.
At first, I assumed it was a warehouse mix-up. I mentioned the unexpected Earth Positive delivery in my first email to Rapanui, but they treated my order as missing and arranged a replacement.
The replacement was… another Earth Positive T-shirt. This time, the shipping label clearly identified Teemill, the company behind Rapanui, as the sender.
When I asked directly about this, they explained that their factory sometimes uses alternatives from approved suppliers when a particular product is out of stock. They said these have the same quality, fit and durability, and that using available stock avoids express airfreight.
In a later email, however, they said their European factory in Prague had gradually transitioned away from Rapanui products and was stocking Earth Positive and Stanley/Stella items. They apologised that this hadn’t been communicated properly on the website.
I received a refund, so the financial side is resolved. But I’m still puzzled by the idea of supplying another brand’s product - and especially doing so without telling the customer.
Has anyone else received an Earth Positive or Stanley/Stella T-shirt when ordering from Rapanui? Or had a similar experience with another clothing brand? I’d be interested to hear whether you were told about the substitution beforehand.
