When I am in India one thing small artisans always ask of me is to please tell other people about them, and bring them more business. I would love if we could all start doing this in the new year. In fashion, we so often keep our resources secret, but I think the way to make a real impact is to share who is really making our clothes and help those small artisan businesses grow.
If anyone in this group is looking to dip their toe into the world of Indian artisan fabrics, I think one of the best places to start is in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. India is interesting because each region is specialized in different types of handicrafts. For example, Jaipur is famous for block printing. Ahmedabad, IMO, has some of the best khadi fabrics in all of India.
If you are already using khadi, where are some of your favorite suppliers?
