A year ago I never thought about the importance of fashion being sustainable. Nowadays it has become an important part of my life. „Sustainable“ refers to causing little or no damage to the environment and therefore being able to continue for a long time (Cambridge Dictionary). There are a lot of things you can do, to have a more sustainable wardrobe, such as buying clothes at used-consignment shops and thrift stores, renting clothing for some time and buying clothes from sustainable brands. Before I did some research I used to ask myself „what do sustainable brands do to make clothing more sustainable then fast fashion brands?“ Well, it turns out that they do a lot. The clothing brand „bleed“ for example harvests by hand to save small animals and insects. They try to conserve water and do not use pesticides or herbicides for materials like cotton, hemp and so on, from which they, later on, make cloth for the clothing. Sustainable brands exchange eco-unfriendly materials with eco-friendly materials. For example they use cork instead of leather. Sustainable companies also do not support child labour or any labour at all. This is the main reason I decided to only support sustainable fashion from now on. I find it incredible, what we can do to be more sustainable and hope that more people realize how important sustainability is. What do you think about the ways sustainable brands make fashion more sustainable? Looking forward to your opinions :)
