World Environment Day Memo
Sustainability in Fashion is a mandate now. If understood well, we all together can create a favourable impact in Fashion industry, arguably second most polluting sector.
Starting from how the crop is produced to how it's dyed to how it's made as a garment to how is it sold - there are environmental and human rights issues at different levels in the production and logistics side of garment industry. It may seem daunting at first to most.
However it is important to bring a behavioural shift in how we perceive and consume fashion.
The three basic steps to follow sustainable fashion are :
-
REDUCE the buying spree. Invest in pieces you will treasure. Buy from ethical labels who respect human rights and practise fair trade. If it’s beyond your price bracket, buy from local handloom shops.
-
REPEAT your loved garments. You bought them with love for a reason. Don’t hesitate repeating them even if you have posted it on Gram. Be confident and proud repeater. Show your creativity with styling it differently.
-
RECYCLE your old garments. Give them a new life by mending or reconstructing. Your skirt wouldn’t mind being your top, trust us.
Pro Tip - Support local economy by buying local and decreasing carbon footprints. Go to a nearby tailor and show your creativity by getting your outfits customised. Gamcha towel can be used as blouse; think about it.
Your one small step can bring the change you want to see.
Together let us change for better in the way we consume fashion , shall we ?
Collective efforts win.
