Sorry a bit of story time!
A few weeks ago, I got banned from a famous second hand shopping app (they accused me of reselling fake shoes which were not faked but AI said so!). Anyway, at first I felt truly awful as if something really bad happened to me. I was moody for a couple of days and thinking of al the bargains I was missing on…
Yes, I had addictive behaviour towards the app. As if not getting a good deal on a random T-shirt was terrible.
Then, I decided to donate the clothes that were on the site for sale. No point keeping them and while I make “loose” a bit of cash they were just clutter.
But more interestingly, I also kept a few items that I was originally selling. My lack of access to cheap items meant I now wanted to keep some items and see if really they were that bad.
It is slowly changing my mindset, I still love a bargain but want to take things slower. I don’t have a huge wardrobe (probably capsule wardrobe number wise) but yet I have more enough clothes. I still want to get good things as I am not perfect and enjoys shopping but my dopamine levels seem to stabilise. No more rush of adrenaline seeing a good deal and getting it… to resell it 1 month later.
Overconsumption and second hand truly can be hand in hand, I just never realised it. So thank you Vinted for the ban 🤣
