Hello, as a 19 year old girl who is dating around and going out a lot I never see a lot of options for sustainable designers. It is very easy to get mislead by vague paragraphs about brands sustainability and ethics, especially as someone who has unfortunately not been as knowledgeable on this topic previously. I recently bought a 300 dollar dress only to find out from a friend that while the materials are good, the brand uses sweatshops in 3rd world countries for cheap and hard labour which I find cruel.
I have always thought that "luxury" brands would actually take care of their workers based on the price they charge the customers, but I find that to be naive and stupid of me and I hope to do my part in humanity and minimise the impact of my consumption choices on the exploitation of workers. I plan to be more mindful and support brands that are transparent about their labor practices and prioritize fair treatment of their employees.
So if you could drop any recommendations of brands or boutiques (in store around the tri-state area only please) where you know for a fact the workers are compensated fairly well it would be much appreciated, as most of the ones I have seen so far are very classy and professional clothing and not what I am looking for. Your help will be much appreciated, take care. <3
Hey friends! What is everyone shopping for these days? Back-to-school outfits and outerwear for the kiddos? Vacation 'fits for your end-of-summer trip to Italy? Wedding guest attire??? I'm working with a startup that aggregates fashion finds on the resale sites and I'd love to put their software to the test! Drop what you're shopping for in the comments and I'll do my best to find some options for ya on the resale sites. Thanks! πππ
I had posted on changemyview about fur, and I got roasted because of all the microplastics that end up in water because of synthetic clothing. The gist was that natural fibers are better, even if animals die, because animals die from environmental damage too.

Looking for places to sell used clothing in Boston (will take recs for online platforms as well)
I'm trying to sell my clothes on Depop and find that I'm not making sales nearly as quick as I would like. If you have suggestions for either I'm all ears

This is a judgment-free zone. We all know sustainability in fashion is nuanced and complicated, so don't sweat it. For example, your polyester shirt may not be "eco-friendly" but if you've had it a long time, wear it a lot, and plan to keep it a long time then it's about as sustainable as you can get simply by how your wear it.
Let's celebrate the different approaches people and brands take to address our common goal.
Hey friends, trying to buy less and thought I’d try a month of Nuuly for an upcoming wedding. Does anyone have a promo code to share?
Appreciated!
I think we all know that the fashion industry alone is responsible for about 10% of global carbon emissions.
My cousin is in the 2nd year of his environmental degree. He’s been sharing some eye-opening insights with me about the role supply chains play in carbon emissions.
Did you know that the transportation of goods, production processes, and energy consumption in the supply chain is one of the biggest contributors of greenhouse gasses?
Yeah, the cheap clothes we wear - all of this has wreaked havoc on our planet.
Every time I talk to him, I become more and more aware about the interconnectedness of our daily consumption with the larger issue of climate change.
Brands like Shein and H&M, and so many others are the leading culprits. I wonder what small brands do to mitigate such issues.
If you work in the e-commerce sector, can you share If your company trying to decarbonize their supply chains with sustainable actions?
Your efforts can inspire others to adopt eco-friendly measures and make a meaningful difference in combating climate change.
Hey! I'm really interested in getting one of those "milkmaid" style dresses that have been very in lately lmao honestly they just look like the perfect farmers market dress. I like the idea of a corset back becauseI'm very small chested and a lot of things don't fit me just right. I've found things with adjustment capabilities work very well for me. All of the brands in seeing with styles I like though are fast fashion. I feel like this is kind of a classic style and could easily be made out of natural fibers. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars, but I would be willing to splurge for the perfect item. Does anyone have suggestions?
In this video, around the 11m00s mark, the fashion expert says that elastane breaks during washing, which in turn makes the piece clothing to last less.
However, I could not find any source for this on the Internet. In fact, every website/post I've seem mentions elastane as positive addition to cotton/denim because it actually makes the clothing last longer.
Now I'm confused, is elastane good or bad for durability? Pretty much anything has elastane nowadays, I hope it's not a lifespan shortener for clothing.
I get tons of compliments on my style and people often look to me for fashion guidance, but the thing is im not really good at fashion.
To elaborate, i felt like i didnt truly find my "style" until i became more sustainable. I thrifted, upcycled, and made my own clothes from scratch. In this pursuit of sustainability, its how my personality began to shine through into clothes i actually love.
My hobby is compiling sustainable/ethical fashion designers or sellers that have clothes i enjoy. I limit myself to buying no more than one brand new piece of clothing a month. Its about the love for the labor before anything else

Anyone know where to find lots of the same blank T-Shirts for cheap that have at least half its materials made up of environmentally sustainable or recycled materials, is not thin, and is not fully made of polyester? I am looking for a shirt to screen print on. For now I have been thrifting or getting shirts second hand, but the problem with that is all their material makeups are different and that makes it harder to sell because I want my customers to know what is in their shirt because I know some people have skin sensitivities. Any suggestions would help. π«Ά

I’m looking for natural materials. I am in need of a comfortable well fit sports bra and a workout top. Can anyone recommend a good brand?
I started caring about sustainability after witnessing the severe pollution at a local beach near my home, a moment that really opened my eyes to the importance of greener practices and how some people still neglect that fact. Seeing that firsthand made me wonder about other people's journeys towards sustainability.
What got you into living sustainably? Was it a moment of realization or a gradual shift towards eco-friendly choices? Maybe it was something negative, like seeing deforestation or polluted waters, that made you change your ways? Hearing personal stories like yours would be inspiring and will offer fresh perspectives on why sustainability matters. So, what's your unique story? What experiences or reasons pushed you to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle?
I have been looking for organic clothing recently trying to get into a more organic and sustainable lifestyle. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for companies that sell good organic clothes that ship to the United States or are based in it. I don’t want to have to spend too much more on clothes than I do now. I already use yes friends, but I was hoping there was other less basic clothing stores similar. If anyone can help me that would be great!

Hi folksπ being thinking recently about this dilemma. As far as I see it, small brands, which maybe may not be 100% sustainable in all their business decisions, are less harmful for the environment since they produce in less quantity, tend to be make more quality items, use less resources, produce locally, hire local workers contributing to the local communities. But what do you think about it? Are there any researches diving deep into this? Thanks a lot
Hello, I'm a Master's student in the UK looking to interview consumers of famous sustainable fashion brands in the UK ,such as Patagonia and Canada Goose,to ask them about their motivations behind shopping for ethical clothing as opposed to opting for easily available fast fashion brands for my dissertation. If you're based in the UK and purchase from any such brands , I'd like to interview you about it. Thanks a lot!

Does anyone have recommendations for sustainable swim wear or athletic brands that make long sleeved rash guards for the beach? I haven’t had any luck trying to find one second hand so far and would like to get one that is well made and going to last.

Hello everyone!
I’m exploring how to apply sustainability and zero-waste principles to my travel wardrobe for my next solo trip and I’m curious to learn from your experiences.
Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts!
Hey all! I am starting a handmade sustainable fashion brand by using thrifted textiles (duvets, curtains, table cloths) and transforming them one-of-a-kind pieces like light coats, vests, detachable collars, kimonos and tote bags.
I’m passionate about slow fashion and want to offer unique and sustainable alternatives to fast fashion. But I need your help!
I’d love to know:
1. What kind of upcycled fashion items would you be excited to buy?
(Examples: jackets, dresses, bags, home decor, etc.)
2. Do you have any concerns about buying clothes made from thrifted materials?
(Examples: hygiene, durability, style, etc.)
3. What would make you more likely to purchase upcycled clothing?
(Examples: lower prices, more information about the materials, seeing how it’s made, etc.)
Your feedback is incredibly valuable as I shape my brand and products. Thank you so much for your time and input! π
Besides Reformation (though they may not really be super sustainable), I’m only finding brands with very plain clothes that i find to be boring. I’m most concerned about the impact of a brand on animals. Any recommendations? Thank you!

Hi! I’m looking for a brand that is ethical and sustainable that does black tie dresses. I love empire waist slip dresses but am having trouble finding one that comes from a sustainable company. Price isnt a huge factor since I’m not the one paying for it lol. Any help appreciated!
Hi, I am looking for a brand that has a similar style as Uniqlo, but is more sustainable. I am interested in natural and certified fabrics. I am rather slim and the clothes from Uniqlo seem to fit me well. I like their style too.
Just found out about this app with different flash sales from sustainable brands and they have some lovely fashion and accessories brands on sale right now. It’s called the Choose app.
I was a little skeptical about it, but so far I’ve received everything I’ve ordered and it’s all been directly from the brands.
if you use my code 7C0F8D0A87 we both get an extra $20 off an order of $40 (and I would mega appreciate it!)

The only cloaks I can find are made from cheap bad fabric or some other stuff that won't work as a cloak is supposed to work so I can never find a good working cloak and I want to get some so I don't have to keep buying coat and stuff because coats are annoying and brake and expensive ones that are work are horrible and uncomfortable and cloaks work in almost all whether when coats don't
Hello, I am researching on Sustainable Fashion in online communities for my research project. Will take hardly 5 minutes to fill the survey. Would appreciate it a lot.
So I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask but I'm getting into diy clothes recently and i was wondering where the best place to buy fabric from ethically? Normally, i would thrift but I'm not having much luck with thrifting recently

I'm curious where everyone is on this. I am a new ex-vegan and I'm now exploring things I previously never thought I would rethink. If you are really pro fur, I'd love to hear more and my DMs are open.
I read they have to use chemicals so the natural dyes don’t wash out.
I am a conscious nurse tyying to cloak my body at work (aka looking for medical scrubs) with natural fabrics, natural dyes, and ethically made. Any suggestions? My google search this far has been a fail.
I know not all companies are 100% sustainable but i am in need of some new clothes, specifically skirts and trousers. I want something that is ethical and will last me a long time. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best places to shop at? I'm uk based

Early in my sustainable fashion journey and found some great brands from this Reddit and the Good on You app. My question is- am I really choosing a more “sustainable” option when I buy from brands overseas?
For example- I was going to up-level my activewear purchase from Girlfriend Collective to dk Active, but then started realized emissions associated with shipping from Australia probably offsets any environmental benefit there.
Curious to hear your thoughts. Am I overthinking? Just trying to try my best :)
Hey guys! Anyone else super into thrifting?
Whenever I get tired of the same old clothes but at the same time don’t want to drop a fortune or harm the planet with fast fashion, I go thrifting.
The issue is sometimes I can only see items made by unsustainable materials or practices- which is again not good for environment- that's why i was trying to search for online store where I get the quality I deserve while spending within my budget and also doing something good for the planet with secondhand stores that also have ethically made, low-impact items.
Have been suggested to explore threadup, poshmark etc, but not convinced by the quality of items sold out.
If any of you have any secret list of cool online thrift stores that ship all over the US, I’d love to hear about it.
Thanks in advance for helping out!
I'm a 3rd year student of fashion designing, currently working on a project with my colleague.

Found this article to be somewhat organized.
Would appreciate feedback from people who are into the industry? Have you really seen something like that in your mainstream?

Lately, I've been really focused on finding and evaluating brands that are genuinely committed to sustainability. struck a question- Do you know of any brand that truly maintains its sustainability promise across all its products? Patagonia, for example,(only example) seems to do a great job in between— using sustainable materials, and use renewable energy, for almost products they offer.
But I've noticed that many brands claim to be ethical and sustainable, yet this often applies to only certain product lines, while the rest are made in the conventional way. So, should we ignore those conventional products and only support the ones that are made ethically made on need based?
I want to make sure I'm making the right choices without being biased.
Thanks in advance!
Anyone here have any issues with Subset underwear getting holes after only a few uses? Pretty disappointing since they’re pretty expensive. I’ve bought like 8 pairs from them so far and I really like them but I’m now hesitant to keep buying more. Anyone have any other recommendations for underwear? Would like them to last years and not weeks lol.

Are there any ethical and sustainable clothing brands in Albania? I mostly try to buy second hand clothes to avoid fast fashion but I was wandering if there are any ethical alternatives for formal clothing for weddings etc.
I have a lot of synthetic clothing, and I feel guilty wearing them.
I could buy "new to me" clothing made from natural fibers, or I could keep the synthetic clothing I have and wear them out.
One leaches out microplastics in the laundry, but lowers the ecological footprint of each garment. The other does not leach out microplastics, but gives my clothes a bigger environmental footprint.
What do I do? I will keep the natural fiber clothing I do have, and I will try to wear those out, but I am not sure what to do with my synthetic clothing.
