I am a jewellery designer/maker based in London and I have used Fairmined and Fairtrade gold for 5 years. I have visited Tanzania and Namibia and seen first hand how materials are mined, how tough conditions are & how if done properly the materials used in jewellery can provide a living, even empowerment to the communities who mine them.
I'm interested to learn from people how important you see these issues and how much is known about the issues.
Would you be surprised, for instance, to hear that blood diamonds are still an issue? Gold funding conflict has always been a bigger issue than diamonds funding conflict? Lab-grown diamonds are BS from an ethics point of view? Recycled gold is just greenwashing?
