Stitch fix but sustainable?

I haven’t bought new clothes in a few years and I want to update my wardrobe with a couple “new” pieces. The problem is, I hate shopping and am indecisive. The last time I wanted to expand my fashion horizons, thredUP had a service like stitch fix which was great from a sustainable standpoint. That service doesn’t exist anymore and after some googling, I haven’t been able to find something similar.

Are there any sustainable services out there where a stylist will send you clothes that are thrifted/new but from sustainable companies?

Rant: Social Media is filled with Green washers disguised as sustainable small businesses

Instagram, TikTok, and Depop are filled with green washers that are ruining the authenticity and marketplace for real sustainable sellers. I was on IG today and saw a reel from @cottagecorewear showing off her clothes she “sewed.” I thought they were cute, so I checked out her website. First red flag was that blouses were only 40 euros. I was like, how does she sew “in house, sustainable” blouses for that much? After reading the fine print, I saw “manufactured in a limited quantity in collaboration with a small ethical production site in Hong Kong.”

THEN I asked in a comment saying I’d love to buy a blouse, but I’d love if she could back up her claims of using an ethical production site, because if she can’t, that’s definitional greenwashing. In response, she deleted my comment. “Ethical and sustainable” my ***, this girl is literally lying to almost 300k people, and helping ruin real sustainable shopping, as well as ripping off her customers.

Okay thank you for listening to my rant. I’m a sewer as well so seeing greenwashers lie about an art form I love makes me so angry.

Old scarf needs a facelift

I thrifted a scarf several years ago and I love it to death. I wear it close to every day for six months of the year, and it is one of my favorite pieces. I put it in this morning and my mom said that it was looking a little ratty- I looked closer than just seeing my love for it, and yeah- it looks pretty ratty. The edges on the long sides are coming unraveled a little bit, the tassel bits are untwisting and stretching oddly, and the whole thing just looks… worn.

I don’t want to buy a new scarf, but I was wondering if anyone has tips on how to refresh it.

My current plans include taking a fabric/pill trimmer over it to freshen up the fabric itself, but if anyone has tips for the edges, that would be great! (I have sewing experience if that matters, and know how to both crochet and knit)

I am buying clothes super rarely. But I needed some pants cause the one I have don’t fit anymore, tried different second hand stores but can’t find anything that fits.

Help with making my clothes last longer!! I’m getting desperate.

I have this linen dress I’ve been wear constantly to work almost everyday and sometimes on the weekends to, for about seven months. I’ve had to make one darn repair under the arm. The wear and tear appears to be coming from my bra as the rest of the garment is in great condition. I can see that the fabric under the arm is starting to wear thin. I need help and suggestions on how to stop, prevent, and fix this issue. I want my clothes to last as long as possible and I’m fine with this dress acting as a trial run for ideas on maintaining my clothes but want to help prevent any wear that I can on all my other clothing and for things in the future. I’d love to hear any suggestions you have for fixing this. Should I take it to my seamstress and get the arms reinforced before I get a hole in it?

I don’t own a lot of clothing and only shop slow and sustainably, I do plan on ordering another of this dress, because it’s my all time favourite piece of clothing and I have a tendency to wear my clothing to death.

Ideas of things I’m looking for but I’m open to much more! -washing methods, care supplies. -darning advice, how to know and what to know. -bra suggests (that’s not Victoria secret). -your experiences with things similar to this. -how you personally care for your natural fibre clothes.

A: Fit me. I struggle to thrift dresses that don't look like they are made for someone built like a box. Any dress that fits me around the hips is super baggy and unflattering around the mid section, with a body con dress I need something with shape.

I want to buy ethically-sourced cashmere fabric. I'm mostly concerned with good animal treatment. Ecological sustainability is a bonus, but is not as important to me. The Good Cashmere Standard seems like an adequate standard.

How many bikinis should one own ?

I just started shopping much more sustainably. I love fashion and the creativity it’s able to express. I have started shifting away from FF to buying only from small designers but I know it’s still wasteful to buy new. I’m building my staple collection (simple but beautiful pieces to mix and match 4 endless creative pairing) I’m loving so many but I don’t wanna over consume. Is 5 too many ? I feel like 3 is better, well 1 would be best but I just love the fun clothing brings in my life. Thoughts ?

Online merch stores

Hello wonderful people!

I work for a non-profit wildlife rescue and we are currently fundraising to build a wildlife hospital.

We want to create a custom online merch store to help raise these funds, but we want to do this the right way and as sustainably as possible. We are based in the US, so ideally this company would be as well.

I have looked at a lot of different websites and reviews and I cannot tell what companies are just greenwashing vs. truly a good company.

Any advice?

What's a purchase you're glad you made?

Before I buy something, it tends to sit in my head for months (if not years) before I finally buy it so I can be sure it is something I really want/ need. This really helps me cut down on expenses and waste.

Sometimes, though, I wait too long before making a purchase, and then wonder why I didn't do it sooner. What's something you bought recently that made you feel like that?

Can you suggest similar platforms to Aworld app

Hey everyone, I've been using the AWorld app for a while now, and I liked their community model. It's a good example of working towards environmental impact as an individual and as corporates together.

I'm particularly enjoying the daily challenges and learning about new sustainable practices. It's motivating and keeps me engaged on my sustainability journey.

However, I'm always looking for more ways to learn and know about communities who involves corporations and individuals to engage and make an impact. So, I was wondering if anyone here could recommend apps or websites similar to this concept.

I'm especially interested in platforms that:
