Plastic bottles in recycled clothes not a great solution. Your 100% recycled material needs to come from recycled clothes

New to the group and I have seen a number of clothes brands claim to be made from 100% recycled material. Often the textiles are made from PET plastic bottles.

This is not a good idea. PET bottles are already recycled you are not helping drive recycling rates, what is happening is material that would stay in the food contact industry is being removed and used to create clothes. I would argue that it is environmental damaging to use PET bottles to Make clothes.

If you want to create clothes from recycled material use Old textiles and process them into new materials. The food industry actually needs the recycling of PET bottles for there green targets and taking them for clothes actually is a net negative for the planet

This just my opinion I’d be happy to proven wrong

We are on the search for anyone with size 8 UK feet (Size 9 US) to test the World’s Comfiest Beach Footwear - that loves your feet & our planet.

Our Kickstarter Campaign has gotten off to a great start but with one week to go, the fun isn’t over! As we are only a small business we couldn’t make all sizes available right off the bat. We had to create the proof of concept, which is why the SeaPigs Drifters are only available in a UK Size 8, for the time being.

Our next step is to make the SeaPigs Drifters available in all sizes ranging from size 3 to size 13 at least! However we can only get to that step with enough success and support from people with size 8 feet, so please share us with all your mates with size 8’s!

Sustainable Formal Wear: Reducing Fashion Waste From Single Use Dresses

We're a team of students really interested in exploring the problem of single-use clothing items and their contribution to fashion waste. We were particularly trying to gauge women's frustrations around single-use formal wear such as wedding or bridesmaid dresses that can be very expensive but often just sit in your closet after the event, providing no more value.

I used an old curtain and embroidery technique to create 'wet looking' fabric as worn by many celebs. So the technique was actually done by the designer with a white stretch mesh fabric that I was unable to thrift anywhere, so the results are a bit different but def interesting technique to try.

I feel like I found threads on reddit saying some of their stuff was marked up items from AliExpress but when I search now, the only threads I see are sale alerts. Kinda sus.

Our ethical clothing search engine launches in the US & Canada

Hello,

So after a year of running our ethical clothing search engine in Europe, we've finally taken the step to launch in the US & Canada as well adding close to a hundred brands from there. A number of you here wrote to me after our launch message last year asking when we would add North American brands - and now we finally have.

where to find good quality used clothing?

I've been wanting to find more ways to buy used clothing besides goodwill, because everything I find there is not something I could realistically wear to meet clients/ look professional because it's in such bad shape. I'd love to buy used clothes because I know it's the best way to solve the problem of this group, but sometimes it just feels like I have no other choice.

I live in South Carolina by the way, so if any of you guys know of good stores around here that I could try, I'd be happy to!

I'm noticing an increase in what is being called "reposhing," presumably because of Poshmark, where people purchase used clothing, wear it until they get bored with it, then resell it and purchase other used clothing.

What do you think of it?

Honey-like plugin to shop fashion sustainably

hello, fellow fashion and earth lovers, my name is Jeremy and I've just launched my first product last week. I'm building a Chrome extension to help people shop fashion sustainably. We empower consumers into making more informed decisions by providing env. and social impact aggregated scores.

I had always been passionate about the fashion industry and my parents used to work in the industry too. They would take me to see the factories in China. However, over time, seeing how devastating the fashion industry was in the surroundings of these factories in China really made me more aware of its waste and pollutions issue. I think you all already might know, but currently, for people like you and me, it's super difficult to really understand the environmental and social impact of your clothing purchases. It's especially hard with all the trends of greenwashing.

This is why I started Changing Room and built this Chrome extension that aggregates publicly available information on garment production and materials impact. Our scoring methodology isn't perfect, but I think it's already a great step towards being able to make informed purchase decisions.

I recently realized how hard it is to get people to download and try our product (even if it's free). I would really welcome it if you could download and test our first version and tell us if anything is going wrong so that we can work on fixing these bugs!
