Please help me with your book tips!

Hey guys,

I hope everyone is safe and healthy.

My sincere and advanced apologies for my english as I'm not native.

I'm currently searching for books that talk about how to develop sustainability into a fashion company.

There's a lot of books around however, I'm having a hard a time finding the right ones as I don't have anyone on my circle of friends/work colleagues that can recommend me this.

So, I'm working on a e-commerce fashion company and I would like to learn on how we can develop a sustainable behavior inside the office and also, building a sustainable department/feature/part where used clothing/accessories are something that the clients can purchase.

I know that the book "The Ecology of Commerce: A Declaration of Sustainability, by Hawken." is a great one.

I hope you can help me :)

Thank you so much.

Virtual fashion as a sustainable style solution?

Virtual fashion is clothing that only exists in 3D. When you buy it you can upload a photo of yourself and it gets tailored so that it realistically looks like you're wearing it in your social media photo... but it never has to get manufactured, laundered, shipped around the world, etc. Thoughts?

In Dark & White Sheep we use antibacterial vegetable tanned leather which eliminate bad smell and has eco friendly processes in order to produce it, also we incorporate the most confortable materials in our insole which make this sandals the most confortable footwear you could ever have in your wardrobe.

Come join us in this new project, who said looking good had to be uncomfortable to the environment and ourselves?

Looking for comfortable men's boots for the fall

Hey everyone, I was looking for comfortable men's boots that look like leather or another quality material but are not actually leather or any animal fabrics.

I would love for them to be brown or dark brown with the ability to tie them up.

I haven't seen anything at my local thrift shops so I'm looking for something new. I'd love to hear your suggestions on places where I can purchase a pair. Thanks in advance!

Me sustainable fashion brand❣️

SignedbyRed.com I just launched my very own sustainable fashion brand! I up-cycle clothing by painting my own art and putting it on unique pieces for everyone to wear. It is a place for me to mix my two favorite things that make me happy: fashion and art. I also stitch, embroidery, patch, and stud! So if you are looking for one of a kind pieces that no one else will have look no further! My business is called SignedbyRed because each piece has its very own tag that I personally sign. Give it a look, browse, and enjoy my own way of expressing my way through this crazy thing we call life.

Future scenarios for bio-based materials

Hello everyone 😊 so basically I need help on deciding what could happen in the future for the fashion industry when it comes to using bio based materials. Like I know that one scenario, could be that bio-based materials in the industry could be mass produced in a cheaper way if more companies use them but I don't know what other scenarios could there be? If you have any comments/ideas to this, that would be so useful to me 🙏

Experiences with the brand colorful standard

Hi, so I've been thinking for quite some time about buying myself a sweater from the brand colorful standard. Their stuff looks absolutely beautiful on the website and I haven't been able to find a 2nd hand sweater I liked. Their prices for my budget unless many other sustainable fashion brands (if you have suggestions with a similar price range I'd be happy to have them). There's just one problem, their Facebook reviews are rather meh, 3.7 stars, but it's only 37 votings and we all know people tend yo only review if they are dissapointed so it might not show the full picture. Do any of you have experience with the brand? I'd love to hear some experiences!

Fashion Consumer Research

Hi Everyone!

I'm conducting a survey on the difficulties people face while trying to shop for sustainable clothing as part of a project I'm working on. As someone who loves fashion but has trouble finding environmentally friendly alternatives to the brands that exist today, I'm curious how many people experience this same issue.

The survey takes no more than a minute to complete and all responses/feedback would be a huge help. Thanks in advance!

Consumer Research

Hi I am conducting a consumer research for my Uni work and would like you input if don't mind filling out the survey provided below

a bit of background information on the topic before starting, this project is focusing on vegan leather made from mushrooms particularly mycelium and is it sustainable enough for the future of fashion.

Mycelium itself can be grown using waste products such as old rubber tires, plastic, agricultural waste products such as left over crops, and it can convert to a certain extent contaminated soil to purified soil.

it also requires less resources and space to be grown, so less field, water and energy.

If there's anything you want to discuss please leave it in the comments.

Why you should shop sustainable

Everybody in our society likes to feel and look good. However, buying new clothes often and from fast fashion brands has a huge negative impact. In the last couple of years, the consumption of fast fashion clothes has grown so much that by now these fast fashion brands are one of the most prominent movements in the fashion industry. On the one hand, these clothes are affordable, trendy, and easy to access, however, on the other hand there is a huge environmental impact. The fabric dying does not only endanger you and your skin it also leads to pollution, more waste as well as endangering animals. Additionally, by producing synthetic fibres large amounts of petroleum are recruited. As you can see the production of fast fashion clothes Is not very sustainable and on top of that these clothes aren’t lasting a long time. After a few washes you need to replace your clothing piece, or the trend is gone and therefore you never wear it again. Apart from that the question arises how fast fashion brands are able to produce in such large amounts in such a small time? The answer is at the expense of the workers. People are working under unsafe working conditions and are only earning a very low wage. Workers are getting exploited to produce for these fast fashion brands and for clothes only to be worn once or twice. Is it worth it? How can you shop more sustainable? In order to make people aware and to buy more sustainable clothes I added a few links to shop better in the future😊

Should I return a sweater containing nylon?

Hi,

I just bought two sweaters, one is 100% merino wool and the later is 60% coton with 20% nylon and 20% viscose. Since I want to buy more sustainable clothes (because each time you wash, some microplastic goes into the water), I'm not sure between keeping it and wear it hundreds or thousands of time (like most of my clothes) or return it and choose sometime containing only natural fabrics?

It also seems that you need to iron Nylon clothes, which I rarely do for my other clothes... So maybe another negative point.

In all way, there is little to be done for our planet. If I return it, it will still go to trash or someone else will buy it and maybe throw it away in a year. If only they could stop producing with those harmful fabrics.

Thank you

University assignment into sustainable walking shoe

Good evening everyone I hope you’re all having an amazing day. I’m a masters student at the university of Salford and have been set an assignment for a digital marketing module to design a sneaker and then market the sneaker. My group has decided to specify this sneaker to a walking shoe and then after doing research decided to make it a sustainable/ environmentally friendly walking shoe. I’m posting into this sub because I’m wondering if anyone could help me gain an understanding of the industry that we’re entertaining and some more overall insight into the works of out door apparel and door wear. Then some more information into the costs of production, the competitors in the market, the current demand for sustainable alternatives with the outdoor community, pricing strategies used by companies, what the consumer would expect from the product or anything else that would be of value when writing up a business plan for a company like this. Anything of help would be much appreciated thank you.

School Project About Becoming More Sustainable Shoppers

Hi everyone, I’m a first year student in university working on a project for my sustainable management/awareness class. I am working on developing an idea for an app that helps people become more sustainable clothing shoppers because the fashion industry is very polluting and most people don’t exactly buy things that they wear frequently.

If you could answer these few questions for me that would really help me include various perspectives!

  • what are some ways you are currently trying to become a more sustainable shopper? What works what doesn’t?

  • how do u know if u are doing well with sustainably shopping? What are some key indicators that you are making progress?

Alternatives to the landfill for a worn-out Patagonia raincoat?

Apologies if this is the wrong sub for this question -

The interior, waterproof lining on my many-years-old Patagonia raincoat is flaking off. The coat is no longer waterproof, and if I wear it I wind up shedding lots of little flakes.

It's not something Patagonia can repair, so -

Do I have any alternatives short of throwing this away?

And since I'm now in the market for a raincoat: any suggestions for something that won't put me back in this position in a few years?

Are you a Sustainable Fashion Consumer? Looking for some interviewees for my master’s thesis

Hello folks!

We are Master's students at the University of Southern Denmark, taking interviews as part of our thesis to increase our understanding of how sustainable fashion products are consumed and experienced? We are looking for respondents who are particularly consumers of sustainable fashion products, and residing in Denmark, but it is perfectly fine if you are residents of other countries.

The interview takes around 30 minutes. We will be trying to capture your thoughts and perspectives on being a sustainable consumer of fashion products. If you are from the area of Copenhagen or Odense, it would be a pleasure to meet you in person over a coffee. We could otherwise meet online. However, your participation will be a valuable addition to our research and findings could lead to a greater understanding of sustainable fashion products, which will eventually help in our master’s thesis. We promise, your responses to the questions will be kept confidential. If you are willing to participate please respond with a comment or message, then we will fix a day and time at your convenience

Thanks 😊

As someone who loves fashion but has trouble finding environmentally friendly alternatives to the brands that exist today, I'm curious how many people experience this same issue.

The survey takes no more than a minute to complete and all responses/feedback would be a huge help. I also posted about this yesterday but there was an issue with the link, which is why I'm reposting today. Thank you in adcance!

I made this from none recyclable crisp packets, its pretty impractical but designed to be a statement. Over 16 million crisp packets are thrown away each day in the UK alone. The estimated time for them to degrade is thought to be over 80 years

Correction: Groceries apparel anti-mask?

Just an FYI: the person who runs @groceriesmfg is anti-mask, despite the fact that they sell masks on their site.

Vegan bag brand with a wooden handle ???

A few months ago I came across this vegan bag brand (I think I typed in luxury but I don't think they advertise themselves as such?) that has a wooden (bamboo looking) handle on top of pretty much every bag they have, including their backpack.

I think the price range was like around $1000? And I just cannot find their name and website anywhere-

Does anyone have any idea what that brand is? I am assuming it is a newer brand since I can't really find it on any lists that have brands like Gunas and Matt & Nat

Girlfriend Collective anti-mask?

Seems like the person running their Twitter page is anti-mask, despite the fact that they sell masks in their collection. I tweeted to ask for clarification, and immediately got blocked.

Just an FYI for those that think it's important. I won't be supporting them anymore, which is a shame because there are so few sustainable and ethical brands in the US.

is REPREVE sustainable?

Hi guys,

I am considering buying these pants which has recycled plastic bottles https://shapingnewtomorrow.dk/collections/essential-pants/products/essential-pants-slim-walnut

They use this company: https://repreve.com/

It is also water rejecting, but I hear that those kinds of materials or whatever they use isn't very sustainable.

So I want to know whether it's sustainable or not, because I am in the process of buying brands that take sustainability more seriously.

Research help :)

Dear all,

I'm conducting research on the difficulties people face while trying to shop sustainably, as part of a project I'm working on with a friend. We're particularly interested in identifying any shopping habits, obstacles, and trends that may exist from a fashion consumers point of view; and by doing so, uncover any opportunities there are to make shopping for sustainable clothing more convenient/accessible. I have created a survey (linked below) to help accomplish these goals and would greatly appreciate any responses we could get. It takes no more than a minute to complete and would help us out hugely!

Where can I find button-ups with spooky prints?

I'm looking for a button-up with a fun print that is sourced/produced sustainably. My budget is preferably under $50. I'm looking for stuff that can ship to the US.

I'm thinking prints with pumpkins, bats, eyeballs, skulls, knives, witches, etc. that are inspired by Halloween, gothic, and/or horror elements.

So far I've only found one website and I'd like to see if I have any other options!

Edit: Bonus if it's in a vintage cut or vintage Halloween themed!
