Ethical brand to buy all basics? UK

Hey there!

So I'm looking to donate nearly my entire wardrobe which is filled with poor quality & start fresh with a sustainable 'capsule', but I am rubbish at shopping and also hate it, so looking for maybe one or two places where I can get all the essential well-fitting tees/basic jumpers/jeans&bottoms etc.

Preferably UK places to cut air miles!

(for context I am female, 5'1 so if they do petite clothes even better, size 8)

Thanking you :)

Are there Any Feminine Style Brands Made in Europe?

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been looking for fashion brands for a while now and I just cannot find any brands that I like that are made in Europe

All of the popular sustainable ones are very unflattering in my opinion, I honestly do not know why it is so hard to find a sustainable feminine style brand

I do love the style of sèzane, but from what I've heard about the brand I would like some alternatives, I could even go for luxury brands if you know any, and I prefer small brands over big and popular brands, they don't even have to be brands, could also be handmade clothing

If there are any online marketplaces with small brands that have clothing made in Europe that would also be amazing! or any online shops with vintage clothing

Pantee – First Brand to Make Underwear From Deadstock T-Shirts

Hey eco-fashion lovers!

I thought some of you may be interested in hearing about Pantee, the first underwear brand to make underwear from t-shirts. Why t-shirts? It takes 2,700 litres of water to make just one t-shirt, and over 2-billion are made every year. What's worse is that roughly 30% of clothes are never even sold!

I co-founded the company with my sister and we are launching our first collection on Kickstarter next week. Would love to hear your thoughts!

You can check out the first collection here -> Pantee Lookbook

BRANDS! I NEED YOUR HELP!

Would you be willing to incorporate a QR code into your business structure (online and in stores) to take consumers to your ethical/sustainable information? Information would need to be validated. WHY OR WHY NOT?

Would the ability for consumers to compare your brand to others be okay or make you more hesitant?

My wife and I make a naturally better sweatshirt in Sweden from 100% Swedish wool. It has a super short, transparent supply chain that we had to source ourselves; is free from plastics, chemicals, and even dyes! Help us back the next production of it.

Hi SustainableFashion community,

My wife and I started our little label A NEW SWEDEN three years ago.

Having worked for brands like Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Celine, my wife was tired of achieving a creative director’s vision at the expense of the environment.

We started A NEW SWEDEN to make beautiful, practical clothing without any compromises to sustainability.

Our first product was a sweatshirt.

We worked for over two years to make our own accountable supply chain for this sweatshirt.

This means we have the shortest supply chain possible; we do not use any plastics in the garment; we do not use any synthetic chemicals in processing our clothes; we work with the natural colours of the wool, using a blend of white and black wools to achieve a grey mélange; we visit and make visible our entire supply chain; we manufacture exclusively in Sweden (where the labour laws are very strict, and the salaries are high); our materials come exclusively from Sweden (where the animal protection laws are the best in the world) and we even don’t advertise on Facebook or Google because of the damage they are doing to the world.

To make a sweatshirt locally, in an entirely accountable way costs us about $175 per sweatshirt. Typically, a brand will multiply their cost price by three to get their retail price. We set our retail price at $375.

We understand it’s a lot of money to pay for a sweatshirt, but even with a bit over x2 markup, it’s hard for us to keep the lights on, and we’re definitely far away from drawing a salary from this.

On the plus side, the sweatshirt has been doing very well at the retailers that we’ve had the fortune to be stocked at, and they want more garments.

We’re currently running a Kickstarter to help fund the production to fulfil this retail demand, where you can get it for a 20% discount.

Oh, and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

We of course welcome your suggestions for how we can do better in the comments, and happy to answer any questions you might have about our practices.

P.s. we are trying to get listed on Good On You and have been trying for the last two years, but they take their time with small brands like ours :(

(TL;DR, my wife and I made a sweatshirt from 100% wool, from happy, Swedish sheep, that was sewn by well paid workers in Sweden, that is so natural, even the grey mélange is a result of blending black and white wool. We are running a Kickstarter to make the next production of it, where you can get 20% off the purchase price)

Moth holes in sweaters?

Any tips for hiding moth holes in sweaters? I have one sweater in particular with 3-4 holes from moths, less than the size of a quarter each. This is a great quality sweater otherwise, pure wool, fine in texture, soft. I am thinking of making it into a sweater vest or refurbishing it in some other way, but the moth holes are front/back and centered. Thanks!

Reducing carbon footprint

We spend thousands of bucks on our footwear and some of them doesn't even last for 1 month. Anyways I was switching most of my daily products to more Eco-friendly ones. So I thought why not footwear? I ordered a pair from upciclo that were recycled and made from vegan material. I have been using them for 2 months now and they are super comfortable and still in the same shape as they came. It's one step towards a sustainable life. This way we literally reduces our carbon footprint on earth😉.

Need Feedback On My Website For My Sustainable Vintage Fashion Small Business

Hi all, would be really grateful if you could look at my website and tell me what you think. This business means everything to me as it combines many of my passions and (hopefully) helps the environment and people simultaneously. I've put my all into it but I seem to be hitting a wall somewhere. I know I need to advertise to my target audience better, any advice on that would be like gold! With limited prior experience or guidance feedback on any and all parts is appreciated. I built the site with no prior experience but I think after a recent revamp it's looking good. Let me know what you think! I want it to be a place for people to add to their wardrobes in an sustainable and eco friendly way. To learn how to and the benefits of finding your style. And to share ideas on how to help the world through sustainable style.

Nail polish

Opinions on nail polish and chemical waste?

Submitted October 26, 2020 at 09:00PM by laurawiillson https://ift.tt/3jyXvBz

Nail Polish

I stopped wearing nail polish a couple months ago. I know it is full of bad chemicals and creates useless trash in my opinion. But my mom was a nail tech so I've always had nail polish around me and always had painted nails and done nail art on myself (I'm an artist). The other day I was looking through my snapchat memories, and whenever my hand stuck out from behind the camera I had red nails, and I immediately felt "Oh my God, I miss colorful nails so much". Before i quit all together, I'd gotten into brands that were made with safer chemicals and higher quality. I do think the way fashion and we present ourselves is important, and nails have always been a part of my identity. (I have never worn any other makeup/face make up except for graduations and weddings). I want to eliminate waste and stomp on the nasty chemical nail industry but I also really miss that part of myself as I am not very confident either lately and don't feel entirely myself. I also feel like it is harder to preach sustainability with obvious chemical waste on my fingers :( I'm very down about this lately. Should I just get over it? What does everyone here do when it comes to fashion and nail polish? Thanks for reading :)

upcycling for fundraising?

im an aspiring entrepreneur who's developing new ways to combat plastic pollution and climate change, but i am struggling to raise funds as a dual credit high school student. i have considered doing go fund me and stuff, but i'm not sure how to advertise that- so instead i was thinking about doing some upcycling projects and selling them to save up. i already have a depop where i sell old clothes, but i was thinking about learning embroidery and sewing to make unique pieces that would raise awareness and funding for my projects. would this be too time consuming to do? if so, should i outsource and hire someone else to do it for me? i want to use only thrifted fabrics and clothing to save it from landfill, but i have a lot of classes so idk how much time i could dedicate towards this and still raise funds for my business. do you have any ideas or suggestions? if this becomes successful i plan on continuing it by outsourcing all production. i just want to find a way to promote my business in an eco friendly way that people would be happy to support

Sèzane-like ethical fashion brands

Hello everyone!

I have been scrolling through the long lists of sustainable fashion brands, but none of them seem to meet my aestethics (e.g. I like Sèzane and Zara).

Do you guys know any brands with similar aestethics that are also ethical and sustainable?

Budget-wise, just to give a reference, I would say 100-120$ max for a sweater, 150$ max for jeans.

Bonus points if they are a European brand/have a physical shop in Milan!

Thank you very much, Sam

Impact Report: Building Trust in Sustainability

In a world saturated with fake news and misleading product claims, we find ourselves in a trust deficit with waning levels of consumer confidence.

We’ve listened to you, trust now sits as your most valuable currency 💰and our survey findings showed us that.
💡Key findings from the Compare Ethics Report reveal that:
- Only 1 in 5 consumers trust brand claims on sustainability
- A staggering 83% of respondents would be more likely to trust a product’s sustainability claim if it had been verified by a third party.
Whilst the data shines a spotlight on the issues, this report is a call to action for the fashion industry to address the trust deficit.

This report explores the prevailing issues that face the fashion industry today and why through verification and collaboration, we can answer those calls and enhance the customer experience - proving the business case for being better. 💚

Sustainable Clothing For the Gym

I have an idea of starting a sustainable fitness clothing line since there isn't really one that stands out from another when it comes to just clothing made for working out in the gym. With the rise of Gymshark and other fitness brands, none of them are sustainable and are all fast-fashion.

Here are my concern and question, do I redesign/design a totally different garment made especially for sustainability, or do I simply change up the fabrics for garments from Gymshark and such, which I'm sure there are manufacturers that can do that. A lot of activewear brands are all almost the same and very easy to replicate....lululemon is what stood out to me the most. So I can't decide whether to just change the fabrics of what already exists and create a brand around it or design a completely new garment using Gymshark and other bigger brands as inspirations. If I were to design then I'd need to invest in designers, pattern makers, tech pack specialists,s and such.

I'm willing to do all that I can to make this work and any suggestions anyone can give is highly appreciated.

Also, Let me know what you think about sustainable clothing for the gym!:)

Thank you for your time!

Hi! I would like to help small local designers who are looking to grow their business.

I am currently a university student working on a project with a startup manufacturing business looking to fill their extra capacity. The company specializes in producing ethically sourced and sustainable fashion with a made-to-order business model that will prevent wasting materials-- a pressing issue in fast fashion. Sustainable Jewelry

Namaste!

My name is Namrata Tandon. I am Indian-bred, UK-loving, artist who currently resides in California, USA. I have been in the jewelry business for nearly 15 years, but sometimes it feels like a lifetime. I founded and successfully ran multiple jewelry brands in the United Kingdom and India before I got married and moved to the U.S. in 2018.

Although my brands were successful, I continued to see problems on the other end of the supply chain: the artisans that created my jewelry always seemed to struggle. They needed a way to spread their talent across the globe, but they did not have the time or resources.

That is why I founded Say it with Silver.

Say it with Silver empowers forgotten craftsmen in the Indian industry. We provide global ethical and sustainable trade opportunities by using recycled Silver and lab-grown gems.

From Handmade modern minimalistic designs to gorgeous Classic Indian Heritage pieces, The Forever kind-of jewelry.

Say it with Silver seeks to be a model example of how small businesses can collaborate to create a huge social impact even as the economic world is turning upside down. We are truly a community-centric company. We seek to partner with like-minded businesses that are striving for social good. Why buy second hand clothes from PreLovedGarms.com?

Years ago, buying secondhand clothing was nothing to be proud of. If someone bought used clothing, the majority would assume they just can't afford new clothes.

In recent years, thankfully, buying secondhand has become a popular trend in fashion. We at PreLovedGarms.com are here to bring you the best of vintage and retro clothing.

What are the 4 Main Benefits of Buying PreLoved?

Reduce your environmental impact. It doesn't promote exploitative work conditions. Saves you hundreds (if not thousands) of pounds. A unique vintage/retro piece of clothing is actually harder to find than those from crappy fast fashion brands. 1. Reduces Your Environmental Impact

Buying secondhand means you are giving a piece of clothing that has been worn by someone else a new life. Secondhand pieces are often in good enough shape for continued wear but end up landing up in landfill.

  1. Doesn't Promote Exploitative Work Conditions

Many of fast fashions clothes are manufactured in impoverished regions where workers produce clothing for over 12 hours a day for a tiny wage.

  1. Saves You Hundreds of Pounds

One great side to buying used clothing is the vast amounts of money you can save. You can bag clothing from top designer brands at bargain prices simply because they have been worn a couple of times.

  1. A Vintage Style Looks Better

Another advantage of shopping secondhand clothing is that you will find one-of-a-kind pieces that no one else has. By shopping only for used and vintage items, you'll look unique without having to put much effort into it.

These tops are coloured with natural dyes. I mainly used red grape skins but I also used some black beans on a piece of material. The fabric I dyed is some end of the roll fabric that I was sent a while ago. There are more photos on my instagram. I also made a step by step guide!

Sustainable fashion for petite women?

Are there any sustainable brands that have a petite line? I'm particularly interested in brands that are more feminine, not brands that do ugly, oversized jumpers and baggy stuff. I'm a curvy woman and oversized stuff does not work for my body. I want clothes that define my waist.

I'm also mindful of budget. I cannot afford to spend £250 on one dress. My absolute maximum top budget is £100 for a dress and not a penny more.

I'm starting a family and I won't have time to make my own clothes. I do wear a lot of vintage, but I tailor everything and it's no longer going to be possible.

What platforms do you use to find sustainable/ethical brands?

Hey everyone! I am trying to gather some info on eco-friendly trendsetters. With greenwashing becoming frequent...

  1. Is it frustrating to find brands that are sustainable and more, truthful about their proclamations?
  2. Where do you look for truthful brand initiatives? (numerous platforms, etc.)

Dear all, I still had half a blazer in my pile of upcycling clothes, so I made my 'designer' version of the cropped blazer, with a waistband, eyelets and a drawstring. I think adding eyelets to garments is such an easy but effective way to upcycle: it just makes your garment look pro!

Launching my own sustainable tee & hoodie brand! Any feedback is appreciated (esp if it comes across as Greenwashing- which I 100% hope it isn't!)

Hi guys,

I've lurked on this sub before and also posted a couple of times. Having had my eyes opened about sustainable fashion and the ill effects of fast fashion, I decided to make a bit of contribution to the cause.

Bit of back story to my journey: I'm not the one who's completely comfortable buying secondhand clothes (I've tried, didn't feel comfortable and ended up returning it to the same place I bought it from 😔). On the other hand, when I looked to buy from good quality, sustainable brands - they were minimalist and very few had graphic options. And more importantly, when I added in shipping to NZ, I couldn't afford most of what was on offer anyways (eg. Shipping cost NZ$40 for Alternative Apparel to send a $80 hoodie!!). So I saw a gap in the market and decided to launch One Cuppa Tee - Apparel that send a message & are ethically & sustainably made.

www.onecuppatee.com One Cuppa Tee

The source product comes from Stanley/Stella, who are a B2B apparel supplier. After some research, I decided to partner with them because they did produce some of the highest quality apparel, AND it was in an affordable range. They exclusively use 100% GOTS certified, sustainably grown organic cotton sourced from India while the garments are made in Bangladesh and then shipped over to Europe. Not only that, their supply chain is certified by various independent bodies and standards, including GOTS, PETA, Fair Wear Foundation. They are also extremely transparent in their operations - to the point they publish a sustainability report every year!

We follow a simple production policy - print on demand (POD). None of the apparel is pre-printed. It is only when someone puts in an order that we print the design on the apparel and then ship it out! Our partners are based in France, where they bring in Stanley/Stella produced t-shirts to their print workshop. We have partnered with them as they have superior quality printing. They are one of the few companies in the industry that use water-based inks for printing, which are 100% eco-certified by the OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT. They also happened to be the only POD company in the industry (as of date of writing) to ship in biodegradable, plastic-free packaging. Even the invoice is printed on recycled paper!

I've also partnered with a fellow Kiwi company, Carbon Click, to be the Carbon Offset partner. Every time you offset your carbon footprint of shipping by opting for the NZ$2 donation, you donate towards forest regeneration & conservation projects as well as high-impact international clean energy projects. You will also receive a follow up email where you can trace where your donation went!

All in all, I would your feedback on it, any design ideas that you might have, etc - basically any & every criticism you have to throw at me!! 🙌

TL;DR - I couldn't afford new sustainably made clothing, so I decided to launch my own in the range that the average Jane and Joe could buy it too! Need your feedback on it (and if you like any designs, always welcome to shop 😄)

launching my brand using 100% recycled fabrics for a clothing line dedicated to ecology and sustainability.

Hey everyone,

I recently launched my clothing brand THIRD SON, which founded upon the ideas of ecology and sustainability. I wanted to create something that could both bring the clothes I have imagined designing since a child to life and in some way compensate for the waste my grandfather unwittingly created in his lifetime as a menswear designer. As of now, all of our fabric and labor is created and done in Los Angeles. Our fabrics are made of 100% recycled cotton and as such are biodegradable, leaving virtually no footprint behind. Our goal is to reduce the incredibly large amount of waste produced by the fashion industry and create something that not only lasts but detracts a portion of the waste others create. Our hope is that through strategic and aesthetic design, we can combat the harmful and negligent actions others in the industry take. Our goal is to create a movement towards “conscious consumption”.

Everything is done by me so I would love to hear any marketing tips you guys have for me as I am always looking to learn and find new ways to approach consumers. If there are any general tips or questions, I would love to hear them / respond to them. Looking forward to hearing back from all of you!

My website is thirdson.us is you have interest in seeing what I've done so far.

Sustainable fashion in Vancouver

This is a long shot, but who knows. Does anyone know good stores for ethical and sustainable fashion in Vancouver? I buy 99 % second-hand but I’d like to get a few timeless, high-quality staples. I need a long, casual dress and a coat, plus versatile pants (not jeans). Must be sustainable, vegan, and cruelty-free. Any recommendations?

Recommendations for fashionable, sustainable diaper bags?

My husband and I are welcoming our first child in December and have been slowly buying what we need for his arrival. For the most part, we can find everything we need second hand - everything except a unisex backpack diaper bag.

If I find one second hand, it’s either a messenger bag / purse (which won’t be great for my back problems) or very obviously geared towards moms. We’ve looked into buying a regular backpack from Fjällräven or similar second hand but then we would miss some details like a changing pad and baby bottle holders.

Does anyone have any recommendations for good, fashionable and sustainable diaper bags? So far, I’ve found Kaos which makes bags out of recycled bottles. Any other tips?

Note: we live in Europe and would like to avoid Amazon at all costs.
