Kolebree: Zero-Waste Platform for Sustainable Fashion Brands (Womenswear)

Hi All,

We just went live! Kolebree is an eco-conscious retail platform for Womenswear. At Kolebree, we are committed to providing ethical, sustainable, timeless fashion while incorporating zero-waste practices throughout our supply chain. Here's how we eliminate wasteful retail practices:

  1. Through our pre-order program we try to minimize the problem of excess production of clothing. Our pre-order program allows us to only order as much as we need ahead of time from our brand partners, so our brands are only producing what is needed and in the amount needed. Customers can pre-order a season in advance and get up to 30% off as a reward for making better choices for the environment.
  2. Our upcycling program keeps your clothing out of landfills by repairing and recycling used and damaged returns.
  3. We skip the excessive, branded packaging in favor of plastic-free, biodegradable materials that won't hurt the environment.

We are based in United States. Currently our brand list is as follows:

  1. Organic Basics

  2. By Signe

  3. Beaumont Organics

  4. Maska

  5. Eve Gravel

  6. Sunad

  7. Ahlvar Gallery

We will be expanding to clean beauty and home categories soon. Follow us on our zero-waste journey by signing up for our newsletter. Please reach out to us at [hello@kolebree.com](mailto:hello@kolebree.com) for any feedback, questions, concerns etc.

Here's our website: https://kolebree.com/

Free domestic shipping on orders over $150. We ship worldwide :)

PLEASE reach out if you identify with our beliefs!

I’m looking to hit my goal of 300 early adopters to test my prototype and give feedback. Only takes 5-10 minutes.

We believe in balance. We believe Mother Nature has perfected balance in life and it’s time to follow her lead. I want to create a world where the fashion industry strives to do the same. Legitimately.

In short, I’m building a platform that gives the consumer what they need/want while contributing to the shift of fashion in the direction it needs.

Hello there. I knit and crochet. I'm from the UK, and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for wool (or, as you US folk would call it, yarn) brands for knitting and crochet.
I have heard of some brands who make their wool from recycled materials, but I was wondering if you guys have any input. Thanks

Waterproof clothing options?

So I've been thinking a lot lately about clothing that's waterproof or at least water-resistent and being sustainable at the same time.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there a way to make something like a raincoat or umbrella out of something that's not plastic?

The Sustainable List - all the good fashion brands at a glance

Hi there, I'm Marcel!

This is my first post here, so I hope it doesn't come across as shameless self-promotion. But I think that users in this group might be interested in what we've created.

We recently launched https://thesustainablelist.com/, a platform for sustainable fashion that features over 200 ethical brands, and we keep adding brands every day.

With this project, we want to help people navigate the highly fragmented sustainable fashion marketplace and give more visibility to brands that are socially and environmentally responsible.

I've already spotted a few interesting topics in this group that list brands that we haven't spotted yet. But if anyone would like their brand to be featured, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

We've also launched our project on Product Hunt today to get direct feedback from the community and understand what features they would like us to work on next. You can join the discussion here: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/the-sustainable-list

I've also written a blog post to accompany the launch of our little project so people can take a look behind the scenes and what motivated us to get this things off the ground: https://medium.com/@marcelkalveram/journey-of-a-side-project-how-the-sustainable-list-came-to-life-38cb3e11d86c

Glad to have come across this community, and hope to hear your feedback! ❤️

I’ve recently lost a bit of weight so a lot of my clothes don’t fit me anymore. I’ve sold a few on eBay and Depop but other stuff isn’t shifting. It’s all nice clothes but I can’t wear it anymore.

Any suggestions for how to sell it on? It’s mainly women’s clothes size 10-14.

What is stopping you from being fully sustainable?

That includes sustainability in general not just fashion wise. I assume that we are all working towards trying to be less wasteful.

For me, it would be living with people who don't really care about the waste they produce. Not saying I would be perfect otherwise but it does affect the amount of waste that comes from my home. If I were to start living alone-which is a plan in the future-I will be a lot stricter with the amount of waste I produce.

Free 14 Step Manufacturing Guide - Take You Design From Idea To Finished Product

Maybe it's being stuck at home and wanting to create, or maybe it's the collective shift in consciousness to make things that are better for people and the planet, but I have noticed a lot of people are starting to think about starting their own sustainable and ethical brands.

The number one question I get asked is where to start. And, what exactly is the garment manufacturing process? So, I made this free guide, with everything you need to know to start a brand from idea to finished product.

For years I have been trying to learn the rules of football (the American kind) so I can follow along while my friends watch. What do you think has been more helpful to me - an article that lists all the players on the field and what they do or a deep dive into how a football is made? Obviously the first post with an overview of all the players.

Think of developing and producing your garments like me learning football. To start off you don't need to know every single little detail of a tech pack or how to comment on fit samples. In the beginning, you just need to know the players in the game, or in the case of the garment manufacturing process the steps to follow.

Hey, I recently started running, in the old Nike sneakers I had at home anyways to begin with. But now I feel that it's time to buy new, better running shoes. I am conscious about environmental issues, so I would like the shoes to be sustainable and good for the planet. But I have also learned that I am overpronating, so I need extra stability in the arch. Looking for affordable and cute underwear

I’d like to buy a few undies but I can’t seem to find a sustainable brand that has cute (i.e. sexy and lacy) undies under $10. Any ideas?

Just to be clear, I’ve already checked all the “common” brands (like naja or wama) and don’t want to buy basic underwear (I’ve already gotten some).

Regarding sustainability, it’s a lot more important for me that they have a responsible supply chain, than the materials they use (that is, they don’t have to use organic materials as long as they pay living wages).

Thanks!!

Which is better to buy; Upcycled or Organic?

So I've been looking for a pair of converse alternatives; I've found two brands I like, and that are ethical, but the are good in different ways.

The one is made from recycled plastics with close to zero emissions, and ethical labor practices. The other is made with organic cotton, zero emissions, and stellar labor practices that help to lift poor areas out of poverty.

But the question comes down to, what is truly better? Upcycling, or organic growth? If upcycling is better, should the difference in labor practices make a difference?

The companies are Nothing New (upcycling) and Etikos (organic).

Call For Ambassadors With Social/Sustainable Missions! 🌏

Hey everyone! 👋

I posted last week looking to conduct interviews with people who identified as sustainability advocates and the response was amazing! Everyone I spoke with was enthusiastic, super knowledgeable, and passionate – it made me feel proud to be a part of this kind community.

Anyways, in the process of speaking with many of the members here, I learned that a lot of you are on a mission to make some sort of sustainable difference. 👏

I'm working at a new social enterprise here in Canada (called Welfact), and we just opened our call for ambassadors – specifically looking for people that identify as sustainability advocates. (more details on the ambassador page linked below)

I think it'll be opened until June 1, but I figured I'd share it here to see if anyone was interest!

About the company: Welfact helps you support vetted charities tackling the defining issues of our time. At the moment we only have two categories, "Climate Change" and "The Basics" (food, water, and education)

This is our ambassador program: https://www.welfact.com/ambassador

Feel free to reach out directly to chat, I love meeting new people! 💬

fashion branding guide + free templates

Did you know that people make their first impression within the first 7 seconds of meeting you? That is really quick. And, once someone has a first impression it can be really hard to change their mind.

Fashion marketing experts will tell you that, good branding is your 7-second first impression. If done correctly, it's kind of like sorcery, it draws your customer in and makes people like you.

Knowing the right way to speak to customers about sustainability and ethics is a huge hurdle for most brands. It's difficult to balance between educational and preachy.

The best way to develop a good brand personality is to create Brand Guidelines. They are basically a set of rules that determine how your brand should be presented to the public covering everything from logos, to fonts, to color schemes, and copy.

Here is a free lesson with free downloadable templates to create your brand's guidelines.

Anyone have recs for bike shorts (or sports bras) that are sustainably made and aren’t Girlfriend Collective?

Looking for workout clothes, specially compression shorts, that are made sustainably. I like Girlfriend Collective because they aren’t just ethically made, but also recycle water bottles which feels like an extra level of awesome. Sadly, their bike shorts seem to be sold out on every website that I’ve looked at! Even in small boutiques! :(

I’d rather not support Alo or Fabletics if I can spend my $ on someone more sustainable...but the few brands I’ve found seem either really expensive or seem (hope this doesn’t offend) aesthetically a bit unflattering or bland. Lots of mid rise shorts in full colors.

Any one have recs? Thanks in advance!!!

How many tonnes of clothes do you think equal Big Ben, the Pyramid of the Sun, or the Great Wall?

Great Video On How To Look Out For Greenwashing

Great video with information on looking out for Greenwashing. This video is under 10 minutes, and is digestible, (i.e., covering the issue without adding the stressful "the world is going to end" part, which is definitely important to pay attention to, but also something to just take a break from thinking about periodically).

This lady has some really cool videos that are totally worth exploring. You should check her out!

List of Sustainable Fashion Brands

Hi!

I've been building a list of fashion brands from all over the world, which are committed to being sustainable that I would like to share with you.

In this list, you will find brands that offset their CO2 and water footprint, use fabrics that have a lower impact on the environment, produce shoes out of used coffee grounds and recycled plastic bottles, or recycled tyres, or have take back programs to give a second life to their article... And many more creative ways to reduce their footprint.

Check it out here: https://green-ideaz.com/best-sustainable-fashion-brands-all-you-need-to-know/

The idea is to have a reliable list of brands that are actually committed to sustainability - and not just claiming that they are. So I added links when possible in order to crosscheck information. Let me know what you think!

If you think that an eco brand should be added, please let me know :)

Thank you!

Why Sustainable Fashion Matters

With so many problems going on these days - climate change, plastic pollution, deforestation, loss of coral reefs & biodiversity, water scarcity, just to name a few - the fashion industry is not necessarily top of mind for most people as either a problem or solution. The good news is that sustainable fashion addresses many of these issues in unexpected ways.

What do you think about NA-KD?

I recently started looking into more sustainable fashion. As a student I can’t afford many brands, so I am trying to find cheaper ones. I ran into NA-KD on ig claiming that they offer climate compensated shipping etc. What is your opinion on them?

Festival and Rave Wear Rental

Hi!

I'm a third year fashion communication and promotion student doing a project about 'encouraging Gen Z to shop more responsibly' so my idea has been to create a Festival and Rave wear renting brand to combat the issue of constantly buying new outfits for any new events people attend. I noticed that a lot of Gen Z girls buy an outfit for a festival and then they never wear it again, and it more than likely ends up on Depop so it got me thinking about how to challenge this.

I'm looking for anyone who has insights, opinions or known anything about rental clothing to interview for my project, or to leave a comment below with their thoughts which will be used anonymously for my research.

Thank you so much!

free clothing line business plan template and guide for anyone thinking about starting a sustainable business

For anyone thinking about starting a sustainable + ethical brand with the extra time, they may be finding while stuck at home...

One of the biggest mistakes I see new brands make is not making a business plan. Part of the reason is, it is probably the least fun part about starting your business. It requires a ton of work, writing, and research.

But, it is one of the most important steps in my opinion. That is because a good business plan is a living document. It is a road map that should help to guide and keep you accountable through the entire start-up process.

I see a huge difference in the levels of success between brands who make a business plan and those who don't.

So, I made this free guide, and free downloadable template to help anyone interested get started.

Established brands in this group, what do you think about writing a business plan?

Fast fashion sugar coats social and environmental issues

Hey Reddit,

I have been thinking about the term fast fashion and reading up about all the ethical and environmental dilemmas and I think that the term really sugar coats these issues.

I know people who dont understand the term at all and think that fast fashion means that it was made quickly.

I would like to start using a word that reflects the issues correctly. That a woman most likely made the item in unsafe working conditions for less than a Euro. And that the mass production and disposal is harmful to the environment.

I'm not sure if there is another word already being used but would like some suggestions of words that already exist or new words that depict the social and environmental issues of fast fashion properly.

free budgeting guide for your startup clothing line

For anyone that is feeling creative and thinking about starting a sustainable + ethical clothing line - here is a free start-up budgeting guide, with a free 16-page downloadable workbook.

I have found a lot of times new brands don't realize just how much it costs to start a clothing line. Like for example, shipping. Shipping is so expensive, and it's not just shipping your final product to your customer. There is a ton of shipping in the product development and production phases that really ads up. Just getting some fabric swatches from China of India can cost $80!

Small brands in this group - Did I miss anything in this guide? What are some hidden costs associated with starting a brand that you wish someone had warned you about? Let's help the next generation of start-ups by sharing what we have already learned.

Why Don't You Support Sustainable Fashion Brands?

We know the science. There are chic eco-friendly brands. But, why don't we support them more?

I'd love to hear your feedback about why you don't support sustainable brands more? Is it that you don't know where to shop them? They're too expensive? Etc.???

Sustainable Face Masks

Hi everyone, I sew sustainable face masks. https://etsy.me/2X1ncD1

  • you can wash and iron them, so you can reuse them.

  • I sterilise the fabric before production and sew them in a very clean environment.

  • it’s 4 layers face mask.

  • I have adult & kids size.

  • I send them next day (sometimes same day) or you can collect near Putney Bridge.
