Sustainability can be hot... Right?

This was asked a while back and I'm hoping for fresh suggestions. I love brands like Lucy and Yak, Olive and Thought but I'm looking for something a bit sexier, for lack of a better word! Something similar to Reformation, preferably UK based but I know that's quite limiting.

Found this super luxury brand that does everything vegan

If you read through their About-page you see that actually all their products are sustainable and vegan-friendly. Found it kinda cool so thought I would share it here. They also seem to just get started if you look at their instagram. I like it when brands innovate in new markets, especially when its vegan and sustainable..

Marketing Bachelor's Topic for Sustainable Fashion

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to write my Bachelor's Thesis in the field of Marketing with a focus on sustainable fashion. I started to research and there are so many interesting aspects within this topic. Moreover, does my Prof. want me to focus on specific consumer behavior and how it affects marketing strategies. Of course, I started to research and greenwashing/digitalization, where one of the major topics. But I thought that it's never a bad idea to get more inputs and suggestions. So, I would be more than happy to get some replies for more research aspects! :)

I'm a university student currently writing my dissertation. The subject area is 'What factors are responsible for the difference between what Gen Z say about sustainability and their purchasing habits? ' and so far I have found some received some interesting feedback.

If you're interested in this topic, could you please help me out by filling out this survey.

It only takes a minute and is hugely appreciated.

"Vegan Leather"

Hi everyone! First post in the community and I have a burning question:

Vegan leather. What is it? Vegan leather can be just plastic right? After googling a polymer/polyurethane blend. Are most brands rebranding "pleather" as "vegan leather", because honestly, genius. (Shitty bit very smart)

I know that vegan leathers can also be made out of pulps from natural waste such as cork or leaves etc, but I have yet to ever see a brand specify when they use natural materials or not in there clothing (aside from Patagonia maybe.)

I just wanted to strike up a conversation that : just because it's branded as vegan it doesn't necessarily mean it's doing any favours for the planet.

Anyway, thanks guys! Go save the world ๐Ÿ’—

Sustainable Journal/Notebook

Hello, journal/notebook lovers!

I have a hard time finding well-designed, minimalist journals that are also eco-friendly and sustainable, so I decided to design one myself!

I'm developing a completely sustainable notebook/journal made out of tree-free paper alternatives (like hemp, wheat, seed paper) for people who care about the environment, design aesthetics, and quality products.

Would you be open to taking the below survey so I can better understand what you'd want out of a sustainable notebook?

https://form.jotform.com/213346067640150

I'll be raffling off two $25 gift cards to the sustainable brand of your choice as a thank you. Winners will be chosen on February 1!

Thank you and happy journaling!

PS my apologies if this violates the rules -- feel free to delete if so.

The challenge in the industry for both growth and sustainability

Being an advertiser in the Fashion industry and serving eco-fashion brands, I've noticed that there seems to be a conflict between hardcore sustainable brands and the fundamental principles of business (which is to grow and make a profit). As a result, many brands I talk to remain small and struggle for cash flow, using terms like 'greenwashing' to describe any moderately successful brand. Delivering slow, eco-friendly, sustainable fashion at scale seems to be a sticking point, opening the door for 'so-called' less sustainable brands that are more focused on growth.

So my question is. How does sustainable fashion ever become the dominant niche without consumer habits changing? And how does an eco brand overcome the challenge of hyper-growth and hypocrisy? Or is the whole point of the movement to kill off the fashion industry?

I will add that my agency focuses on growing sustainable brands since I feel the advertising industry is partly (if not entirely) responsible for the growth of fast fashion. Serving truly ethical brands is my way of giving back what my peers have taken from the industry. So feel free to DM me if you'd like to chat..

Natural materials sun shirts? UV protection

Hi, do any of you know of long sleeved shirts made of cotton or hemp that also have high SPF levels?

I have some plastic based shirts that have 30 SPF, and one with 50 SPF. I have to watch my sun exposure, and I work outdoors a lot, but I'd prefer to buy natural fibers next time around. I just have my doubts that I can get high SPF with natural fibers unless there's lots of bunching up or layers, similar to traditional middle eastern ways of dressing.

Best T shirt wholesale brands?

I am a small artist looking to start out a graphic design t shirt brand mostly sold around artist alleys at conventions. I've been trying to research good bulk brands to but from but I'm having trouble. Obviously I'm also trying to balance cost, comfort, and quality as well but I'd love it if I could put my work on clothes that are doing better for the world than most.

My first thought was Alternative Apparel since the t shirt shop I used to work at swore by them but that was back in 2010 before Hanes bought them. I guess now they've let their better practices slip from what I hear.

Any help is appreciated!

Meta-commerce Fashion

Hello all! I am a current graduate student at the University of Delaware in the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies. I am in the process of researching the Meta-commerce as a third mode of retail shopping (brick and mortar/physical stores and e-commerce are the first two modes) for a final project. Meta-commerce is the integration of the physical world and the digital world.

If you would be so kind to fill out this consumer survey, I would be very grateful! I am interested in your enjoyment and preference for e-commerce or meta-commerce shopping. The survey is anonymous and will be closed on Thursday, December 9.

How do I decide if it's sustainable or not?

So I found this really cool South African jewelry brand that uses e-waste, like from phones and computers, and makes it into jewelry, something I haven't really seen before. It's all handcrafted and recycled which sound amazing!

I then started wondering if I should buy it as a Christmas present, but since I live in Sweden there would be quite a bit of shipping. So I'm debating with myself whether this shipping would outweigh the sustainability of buying from this company ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Anyone care to weigh in on the topic?

A black sweater got some bleach on it...

So, while wearing a black knit sweater, I leaned up against a surface that had a bleach cleaning solution on it, and of course, the bleach damaged the sweater and left this burnt-orange/red blotch on the front of it.

I don't really want to throw away this sweater or buy a new one (trying to limit my landfill impact as well as trying to only buy 2nd hand), and I don't want to fill my washing machine with black dye, so I'm wondering: do y'all have any tips to continue this bleachy look on the entire sweater (that seems to be the fashion, now, anyway).

It's a long-sleeve black sweater with an asymmetrical bottom hem. It's 70% viscose, if that matters. I don't want to melt the fabric, but the reddish blotch looks kind of nice, and I feel like it could look good all over.

Thanks!
