Good news or just greenwashing? What do you think?

Similar to other online retailers in the fashion industry like 'About You', 'Zalando' launches a new second-hand branch to develop towards a circular economy business model.

Customers can now send their worn but well-preserved clothes to the retailer. The clothes will be checked, photographed and published by the retailer and can be sold in the same online store as conventional products. For the customer it should be as convenient as possible.

But what happens to products that are rated as not good enough for a resell? They will automatically be sent back by Zalando. For the sold products customers do not receive any money. Instead, they can decide whether they want to receive a voucher for the store or donate the money. Why? They say, because it’s easier for the customer. Zalando also claims that they do not earn any money with this pre-owned category.

Do you believe Zalando’s interest is authentic or do they seek to improve their image? Should similar companies follow the same approach?
