Today begins implementation of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act

Any company importing apparel or textiles into the U.S. from China should be aware that today begins the implementation of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA). The law targets goods produced in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China (XUAR). This area has a history of dismal human rights, including forced labor, genocide and other crimes against humanity.

All apparel arriving from China will be under scrutiny from US Customs and Border Control. Importers must prove that the apparel being imported (including raw materials) did NOT derive from the Xinjiang region. The products may be held in Customs until proper documentation can be provided.
