I’ve started checking fabric tags more carefully, and it changed how I shop secondhand

Lately I’ve realized that how long I actually wear something has less to do with trends, and more to do with... fabric.

In the past, I used to pick up secondhand pieces mostly based on price, thinking that buying secondhand was a sustainable and eco-friendly choice. If it was cheap, I’d grab it without thinking too much. I thought anything that was labeled “natural” or “sustainable” would automatically be a good choice, but I didn’t pay much attention to the quality.

Over time, though, I started noticing that many of those items just didn’t hold up well. Some of them were made of natural fabrics, but they were too thin, scratchy, or didn’t last after a few washes. I realized that just because something is “natural” doesn’t mean it’s built to last.

Last summer, I tried a linen dress from a small brand called Lintico, and it became the piece I reached for the most. The fabric had more structure, didn’t cling, and actually felt comfortable all day.

Since then, I’ve started paying more attention to how something is made, not just what it’s made from. Now, I’d rather own one dress I wear 40 times than four that never quite feel right.

Has anyone else shifted their approach to thrifting or shopping over time? I’m curious if others also started out chasing low prices and later began focusing on fabric quality and feel.
